fartfeatures··on GitLab Security Incident: Attempted Exploitation of CVE-2026-97229
Someone needs to tell DARPA:

fartfeatures··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
I think this is misguided. Considering how much code is AI written these days do we really want LLMs writing insecure code because we lobotomised them?
fartfeatures··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
Talk is cheap, yes. Which is why the working exploits from Wiz, Calif and the PHP team were rather more useful than another demand for a private demonstration.
fartfeatures··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
Is the confirmation of a Google subsidiary, coordination from multiple government security agents and the word of the PHP developers not enough for you? Why not? Why is your bar of proof set so high? The downside of not reacting is far worse than the downside of reacting yet you seem to be suggesting under reacting would be superior?
fartfeatures··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
Some people hate AI so much that they start to deny facts that don't suit their narrative. If this had been found by a human being then they wouldn't be contorting themselves to try and deny it exists. Many people feel incredibly threatened by AI. It seems to inversely correlate with competence in my experience.
fartfeatures··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
Humans use heuristics such as credentials to navigate an overwhelmingly complex world. They are not infallible but they are quick enough and right enough that we reach for them instinctively.
fartfeatures··on Show HN: Flipflop – Iroh-powered persistent tunnels for filesharing
Apologies, discussions on Github
fartfeatures··on Show HN: Flipflop – Iroh-powered persistent tunnels for filesharing
That is strictly true but there are work arounds. For example you can talk to an Iroh relay server from inside of a browser. You can also get round this with extensions. Unfortunately Google whitelist who can do this but it can be done on Safari.

I'm working on something similar, could you please turn on discussions so we can chat directly?
fartfeatures··on I paid people to try and follow my README
"I took notes by hand (fuck feeding the machine)"

Closed. You are on a machine right now as am I, lets not pretend we don't like them for clout.

fartfeatures··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
I don't have specific information about Yandex but don't forget how heavily involved Amazon were with things like: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/19/world/europe/ukraine-cybe... it wouldn't be a huge stretch to suggest that a lot of cloud hosting providers are neck deep in national security.
fartfeatures··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
It means you shouldn't invade your neighbours and conscript your young people or you will ruin your economy.
fartfeatures··on Pop!_OS bans AI-generated code from much of its codebase
An expert doesn't waste their time going on an ideological crusade against tooling. Even the most ardent anti-AI people are admitting it is useful for programming. Eventually you will have to do the same. The more you dig your feet in the worse it's going to be for you when that day comes.
fartfeatures··on Protect Your Friends and Loved Ones
Be careful with the emergency contacts. In the UK there have been instances of threats being made to emergency contacts when phones are stolen. You should be able to authenticate yourself.
fartfeatures··on If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?
I'll wank my way and you wank yours.
fartfeatures··on If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?
The LLM is citing it's sources and I follow up on them. Your attempt at a gotcha is interesting in that I think it says more about your relationship with AI than mine.
fartfeatures··on If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?
How do you know any explanation is correct from any source? That is not unique to LLMs.
fartfeatures··on If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?
Absolutely, this week I learnt about:

- Kalman Filters

- Bayesian Tracking

- Hybrid Logical Clocks

I was able to ask questions and understand the current state of the art.

fartfeatures··on If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?
We need to be able to flash credentials online whilst keeping our identities private. It would be useful to know some things about each other whilst still keeping as much privacy as possible.
fartfeatures··on If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?
> I mourn for the generations that will never get to use their brains.

If you aren't using the incredible technology we have around us right now to accelerate your learning then it is us that should be mourning your loss of imagination.

fartfeatures··on If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?
My experience was different. I'd post on StackOverflow as an absolute last resort when I couldn't solve my problem any other way. The knowledge there was great, the kindness was sorely lacking. That's what ultimately did it in if you ask me. It got a (deserved in my opinion) reputation for unkindness way before LLMs came on the scene.
fartfeatures··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
Anyone that knows the subject matter well enough will spot the LLMs mistakes and correct them. If you don't know the subject matter well enough to spot a mistake then you don't know the subject matter well enough.
fartfeatures··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
I think you might be letting perfect be the enemy of good here. Right now some students are using an LLM to do all of their work. I don't suggest for a moment my method is perfect but I do claim it could be better than the status quo (or at least warrants further investigation in my opinion).
fartfeatures··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
I'd push back slightly on this: I spend more of my time reading / reviewing code than writing it yet I still find reading / reviewing code much more mentally demanding. I don't think I'm alone in that.

The people that do their own work would be at a huge advantage as the LLM(s) can work as reviewers instead of doing the work so there is more chance of catching a mistake before you lose 20%.

On top of that there will be some issues where the LLM is just plain wrong. Being able to work out when that is the case is a hugely useful skill in 2026. It is also something the people who blindly feed their work into an LLM and print its answer without reading it will be unable to discover. Much to their own detriment.

fartfeatures··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
I've always wanted to find out if this would work:

If I knew most of my students were using LLMs I would encourage the rest of them to use them too. I would then change the marking criteria such that if they get a single point wrong that's 20% off the entire grade. 5 mistakes gets you a big fat zero.

LLMs are great but they make mistakes. At this point your students would have had to spend so long checking, re-checking and triple checking the LLM's output that they will have accidentally learn what they need to. They will likely need to cross-reference multiple LLMs and at least have read their output which is likely an upgrade on today.

Or some variation of the above, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

fartfeatures··on Apple M6 Pro Achieves the Highest Single-Core CPU Score in Geekbench 7
I thought they were skipping the M6 pro chips (or is that just the max and ultra?) to accelerate AI focused M7.
fartfeatures··on Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher
Even more so when you consider that the answers to unsolved problems likely compose with existing knowledge. We don't know what other discoveries these initial discoveries will unlock.
fartfeatures··on Forgejo <=16.0.3 Critical RCE
Agreed, I didn't realise there had been a CVE.
fartfeatures··on Forgejo <=16.0.3 Critical RCE
Apologies I didn't see there had been a CVE. I completely retract my statement.
fartfeatures··on Forgejo <=16.0.3 Critical RCE
It is unfortunate nobody tipped anyone off downstream.
