fatkam··on Keep your phone number private with Signal usernames
Do you still need to give your phone number to Signal to signup? Fucking ridiculous that you have to when it's not really needed.
fatkam··on What Is an Uncensored Browser?
Nice. Too bad we can't also get an uncensored web (including LLMs). Censorship is the enemy of the people and as you might know, it is very common on https://news.ycombinator.com/.
fatkam··on OTP at a High Level (2019)
of course it has to, because no one knows about it... too bad they didnt use it in the title, because even with HN's highly limited title length, I think it would have fit
fatkam··on OpenAI interested in getting into the chip game
can't HN automate the process of posting archive links for the most popular paywalls?
fatkam··on Ask HN: How to Be Politely Curious?
true, I probably would not have included the word "just".. but I would still would have gave that person the benefit of the doubt
fatkam··on Apple will reportedly face a $539M fine over Spotify antitrust complaint
that's about 0.0539% of 1 trillion. Apple is worth about 3 trillions. So about 0.02%... I wish I could pay 0.02% of my worth to make any issue go away.

Seems like a REALLY small fine for an anti-trust issue.

fatkam··on DiskClick: Ever wanted to hear old hard drive sounds
nice and thanks, but a software solution would be nice
fatkam··on Ask HN: How to Be Politely Curious?
I don't think you are a fool because I ask such a question... I am honestly asking.
fatkam··on Capital One to buy Discover Financial in $35B stock deal
Bank of America sucks, but at least their bill payment system is much better than Capital One's
fatkam··on DiskClick: Ever wanted to hear old hard drive sounds
I wish I could "hear" my SSD... to be able to notice unusual activity
fatkam··on Tiny, tamper-proof ID tag can authenticate almost anything
not interested in the Beatles
fatkam··on Discover, Buy and Sell Your Startups or Side Projects
how can you see a list of startups that you have without having to create an account?
fatkam··on Capital One is buying Discover in a $35.3B deal
lol
fatkam··on Capital One is buying Discover in a $35.3B deal
my bank got acquired by them many years ago and became worst... including the interest rates went to almost zero...
fatkam··on Ask HN: How to Be Politely Curious?
> "Why don't you just X?"

you are being too "polite" ... I think it can be a fair question.

fatkam··on E2EE on the web: is the web that bad?
browsers do add one more layer of trust when thinking about the OS, but any mobile app also does?
fatkam··on Tiny, tamper-proof ID tag can authenticate almost anything
hate those "foam" soles (not sure if that is considered plastic)... it's getting hard to find rubber soles
fatkam··on OTP at a High Level (2019)
probably not.

here is an answer from mistral-next:

> "OTP" can stand for different things depending on the context. However, in the context of transportation, it commonly stands for "One-Time Password". In the context of fanfiction, it can stand for "One True Pairing". In the context of Atlanta, Georgia, OTP stands for "Outside the Perimeter", referring to the areas outside of the Interstate 285 loop that encircles the city. Please provide more context if you meant a different usage.

Erlang OTP makes no sense... just like X, or Alphabet as company names

fatkam··on SoftBank founder seeks $100B to build an AI chip company challenging Nvidia
Can't they use the money from their money laundering business?
fatkam··on E2EE on the web: is the web that bad?
E2EE can be done anywhere, but of course some entities like Google or Apple might try to spy locally.
fatkam··on Wyze security incident update
PoE / Ethernet
fatkam··on Wyze security incident update
I have my cameras blocked from the internet and doing backups in the attic.
fatkam··on E-bikes hold promise for sustainable transport in rural tourist areas
but if that is the case, you might get your front wheel halfway buried in mud and almost doing a front flip like me, lol (wet Florida ground)
fatkam··on Groq runs Mixtral 8x7B-32k with 500 T/s
fair enough... I guess at least it didnt crash like many other overwhelmed sites do... but at the end of the day, it was my experience.
fatkam··on E-bikes hold promise for sustainable transport in rural tourist areas
I would not ride a bicycle in USA rural areas... way too dangerous.
fatkam··on The Feds Just Bet Even Bigger on American-Made Heat Pumps
The whole economy is rigged in so many ways... "keep the rich rich... make the middle class poorer" is the motto... or maybe it's just "make the rich richer and bomb anyone who disagrees"
fatkam··on House cleaners find two of the first desktop PCs in random boxes
reminds me of the phones with slide out keyboard that I really miss and that the main thing that I hate about laptops is their keyboard
fatkam··on Latest GPT-4 training data updated to December 2023
In my experience, updates decrease quality because of ever increasing censorship. Improvements are negated really quickly.
fatkam··on Big media publishers are inundating the web with subpar product recommendations
I find Yandex to give much better results than Google, but lately I haven't been able to solve Yandex's CAPTCHAs (the one where you have to click images in the right order). Pretty sure that I give the correct answers.
