figmert··on Root shell on Samsung TV
I keep seeing this, and I still think it's a ridiculous ask. Whether you like it or not, the vast majority is not savvy enough to think about this, and they generally just want Netflix to work without an additional service. For a majority of people 600 is expensive, and they don't want to have to spend another 30-100 depending on the device.
figmert··on Hacker reverses Samsung TV, finds on-board AI listening OpenAI account suspended
For the past few days I've been trying to use rea to reverse engineer my Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro to get seamless functionality working outside of the Samsung ecosystem with no luck (the buds 4 pro require Samsung devices + a Samsung account for seamless to work, I only have a Galaxy phone + my macbook). I think we're still far away from having something that works that well.
figmert··on Docker is weird
I'm curious what made think of it in the first place? What was your thought process that made you think that these Linux primitives give the opportunity to make it a platform for distributing and deploying packaged applications and eliminating a lot of the issue around "it works my machine" argument?

You may have already answered this somewhere, so feel free to tell me what to search for or if you have a link to hand, that works too :)

figmert··on mitmproxy adds --emudhra option
Could you please change it to follow this user's[0] code instead?

figmert··on Meta's GB{2,3}00 Cluster
> incompetent

I think that's not incompetence, I think that's by design.

figmert··on British Airways: Filming Crew W Meta Glasses Could Get Your Tickets Cancelled
I hope more airlines follow and governments do it too. Such a ridiculous product.
figmert··on OpenCode 2.0
Moved to pi after killing my computer one too many times. It's like they think memory has never been cheaper.
figmert··on Crest – an Arc-inspired open-source browser for Mac
Zen browser has had this for least 9 months. It's great!
figmert··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
> The Bitwarden web client has actively broken Vaultwarden compatibility at least once

I skimmed the thread, so maybe I missed it, but from what I saw, saying they deliberately broke Vaultwarden is a bit if a stretch. They likely develop their apps without taking into account others (and rightfully so), and it happened to break an unsanctioned 3rd party implementation. Nothing nefarious.

figmert··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
Yes, and it has no way of doing autofill in anything but firefox. And has barely seen any love for a long time
figmert··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
This was always inevitable when they took funding.
figmert··on US proposes $100k charge for international students to do post-graduate work
Eh? I'm guessing you've never spoken to a European. Especially since Trump's second term (though not just because of Trump), Europeans generally have a bad view of US tech companies.
figmert··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
I use it through OpenRouter, which has ZDR enforcement.
figmert··on Zerobrew: A faster alternative to Homebrew
I tried zerobrew before the original author archived it. It really was faster. There's even a mise plugin for it, but the plugin for it wasn't great to be honest. Caused some wild slowdowns on my prompt. I think it's cos zb or maybe the plugin loads some huge Homebrew version file every time it's invoked. Didn't look too much into it, but it was killed my prompt on slower connections
figmert··on System-level ad-blocking in Android
I can't recommend AdGuard enough. It works across devices, and just does all the DNS level blocking everywhere. I've been able to install it on my parents' devices, my siblings' devices, and more places. They have apps for just about any device. On top of that, you can install user scripts and use them on your mobile phones even if your browser doesn't support them (does require a CA cert being trusted).

My biggest issue is I can't use it while I'm connected to Tailscale, but my plan is to install AdGuard Home on my homelab and have that take over instead. It does remove many of the functions, but it's better than the alternative

figmert··on Pi 1.0
I just tested it out, that's some low memory footprint. Even less than pi. I run multiple opencode sessions and it eats my ram. I will continue to try to use this.
figmert··on MongoDB CEO resigns to join Meta
Here's my source[0], certainly I doubt all of society in the 1300s designed a word to intentionally confuse you 700 years later. But feel free to provide your sources.

Just because you heard it 20 years ago, does not mean that it was not used before.

In addition, "it" is not used for people. Yes, it is a gender neutral pronoun, but would be considered very offensive if you refer to a person by "it". The only example where you can use it usually is a baby whose name and/or sex is not known, often prior to them being born.

The phrase "politically correct" mostly only used by "anti-woke" snowflakes who believe they are better than those who tell others to leave non-binary folks alone, yet at the same time will rage all day just because some said that they're a "they" or some silly little thing. As if they've got nothing else to do in life but get angry at someone for having a preferring on how they want to be referred to.

Also implying that the natural evolution of the English language is some form of propaganda is wild to me. The language is essentially an evolution of German, with heavy influence from Roman/French and Old Norse. Saying that it is propaganda is like saying there's been some psyops by millions of people happening over centuries to mislead millions of other people.

The only correct thing you've said is "communication normally is about clarity". Honestly, to me, it feels like that hasn't really worked on you. You're certainly not clear about the history of the English language.

figmert··on MongoDB CEO resigns to join Meta
Not really, "they" has been used to refer to a singular gender neutral subject for way longer than you've been alive. Whether it refers to plural or singular subject, and often who it refers to, is all pulled from the context of the story.
figmert··on Fakecloud: Local AWS cloud emulator for integration tests
AWS is still way ahead in cloud usage, that's probably why AWS is the primary target. Anyway, floci has GCP and Azure versions, how mature they are, I'm unsure. But it does exist.
figmert··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
I don't know why but to me the worse bit of it is the giant emoji finger that keeps trying to click the sign up button.
figmert··on Neki – Sharded Postgres
Google, Azure, and AWS already have their highly available PostgreSQL alternatives.
figmert··on Proof of Capture: Apple Reference Image, but open source and using steganography
Or, as the author said, you can just photograph an AI generated picture, and that will work too.

What a strange Islamophobic comment to make. You should probably go out a little more.
figmert··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
Great entrepreneur is a bit of a far fetch. His own friends(?) didn't want him to be CEO of paypal back in the day.
figmert··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026)
I don't quite know what it was, but the submit button on that page did not work. Had to call the submit() function on the form's DOM.
figmert··on Hang on to Your Firefox
I just wish Ladybird can do what Electron currently does, but with much better resources. Especially in today's age where memory is so expensive.
figmert··on Fastpotify
Have you seen Spicetify[0]? It allows for this kind of stuff and seems to be a lot more stable than doing it all manually.

figmert··on Credit Card Rewards Became a $9.2B Wealth Transfer
More actually. Generally those rewards happen by using your credit (there are exceptions). Meaning you are more likely to pay for something that you'd probably otherwise not have spent money on.
