forgotpwd16··on Show HN: 25 LTC Bounty to find a bug in Lean 4 formal Yang-Mills proof
"Momentary reward to find flaw" is a hallmark crankpot tell. Fwiw, frontier labs are burning $$$$ on armies of agents trying to find contradictions, because it's much easier than constructing a proof. So, your "make Lean proof for $Millennium_Prize_Problem_X" afternoon session is certainly bogus.
forgotpwd16··on Clj.rs – a Clojure dialect implemented in Rust
Didn't know this. What they used before and why the decision? An article/presentation by the devs that worked on this will be interesting.
forgotpwd16··on Clj.rs – a Clojure dialect implemented in Rust
Many projects that'ld have found cool in the past, now have me hardly care about them. If anything, see them as token pit.
forgotpwd16··on Clj.rs – a Clojure dialect implemented in Rust
>My guess is, within the next 3-5 years, most ALGOL descendant languages will become obsolete, and S-exp based Lisp dialects will take over.

In AI-driven world, programming languages have become more of a hobby, especially in regards to syntax/semantics. Importance is now mostly solely on tooling quality features and compiler-enforced guarantees. Rust has always been popular "written in" target, even more now, and probably the last language shift for a long time, offering compiler-time memory safety, excellent compile messages, packaging/deployment ergonomics, etc.

My guess is, your language (as is the submitted one) compiler/tooling is written in Rust and made by/in-assistance-with AI, probably Claude.

They aren't far from cars. Cars have generations and each generation has distinct models, for market (region), body style, maybe generational steps with facelift, etc. So your "2005 Corolla" is Corolla Gen9 (2000-2007), designated E120/E130 (no idea how they differ), and can be 3-door/5-door hatchbacks, 4-door sedan, station wagon, varying which market you look at.
forgotpwd16··on WiCi: Connecting GPUs over WiFi
>[...] the way you provide storage with a NAS. Why this instead of just plugging in an eGPU? I dunno... wireless?

Why use a NAS rather plugging in an HDD enclosure? Same gains, same losses.

forgotpwd16··on WiCi: Connecting GPUs over WiFi
For anyone, if not everyone, that finds site unintuitive, a technical report is also available[0]. Fwiw some other prior work, not cited in previous report, on remote GPU offloading is GVirtuS[1], which originated for use on HPCs[2] but later pivoted in low-power devices[3], and patents by Lenovo[4] and Nvidia[5] (abandoned; imo quite vague but worths showing that it's something that has existed as an idea).

That said, although title here focuses on one, WiCi seems to pursue a second related idea, that being SSD-backed LM inference. Code for this is open-sourced at https://github.com/wici-ai/inferssd.

forgotpwd16··on WiCi: Connecting GPUs over WiFi
Thanks. Site doesn't make a good job telling people what it's about. Though understandable to not want to say much, considering it's a commercialized tech using a proprietary protocol.
forgotpwd16··on uBlock Origin filter to block autoplay videos in TechCrunch
Lol. But uBO is indeed quite old, having started in 2015 (and 2014 plain uB). Probably haven't visited TechCrunch since before its time.
forgotpwd16··on My Favourite Laptop
>and costs like a years wage in some parts of the world

An equivalent brand-new ThinkPad isn't really much cheaper. Maybe is more expensive actually. Repairability though is indeed terrible on Macbooks. Neo is the most* repairable and even that is mid (6/10 on iFixit; quite a jump from <=4 Pros have been getting forever).

*Something certainly related to EU's Right To Repair directive.

forgotpwd16··on My Favourite Laptop
>I bought mine second-hand for about £100 in 2018. They’ve only got cheaper since then.

You'll be surprised. Due to surge in popularity within the last few years, in part thanks to youtubers, it's gotten hard finding old ThinkPads at this price, let alone cheaper. They've gone from their function over form and low used cost due to corporate surplus as their main appeal, to being geek-y lifestyle objects, not much different than Apple products for the mainstream. They're great machines but paying ~£150 for 10yo system, not even with great specs, is laughable.

forgotpwd16··on Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy?
If something urgent appears, a point release will be made asap. If worry that isn't soon enough, can use the daily snapshot builds. That said, imo an essential device like a router should be as solid as possible and only upgraded if important rather for minor bug fixes.
forgotpwd16··on Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy?
Can disable those annoying buttons (or even make them do something useful for you) with Button Mapper.
forgotpwd16··on Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy?
OpenWRT is a Linux distro. Just one optimized for embedded devices. If don't like the very utilitarian web UI can connect over ssh and use iptables or whatever else you want.
forgotpwd16··on Show HN: OmniDiff – Opensource, super fast, content aware Git difftool, in Rust
https://github.com/ivankovic/omnidiff#usage

OmniDiff also works directly with git diff and git log -p, through GIT_EXTERNAL_DIFF. This path needs no difftool config:

    GIT_EXTERNAL_DIFF=omnidiff git diff

Seems for the other public project they've https://tibleiz.net/clade/ and its predecessor https://tibleiz.net/code-browser/.
forgotpwd16··on Mathematics has changed. Let's act like it
Mathematics as field won't. It is the future of mathematicians that is uncertain.
forgotpwd16··on Mathematics has changed. Let's act like it
Many academic disciplines bring no everyday life improvements. They exist because they provide intrinsic value and long-term foundations, hence they aren't merely entertainment. Mathematics/physics happen to be fields that span the entirety of applied/pure spectrum. Those said, your question can be generalized: Should society continue funding human intellectual activities when AI can perform them substantially better?
forgotpwd16··on Novellas with Groff
>I suspect many people will prefer HTML for markup.

Most people hate writing HTML by hand. That's why we got lightweight markup languages like Markdown, Asciidoc, reST, etc.

forgotpwd16··on Novellas with Groff
EPUB got specific structure/components, which includes metadata files, and isn't just `zip book.epub book.html book.css *.jpg`. Of course can set-up from start to have expected structure, write xhtml files as expected, write metadata files manually, and create epub with just `zip book.epub -r *` but is more convenient via script/app.

Because incompetence.
forgotpwd16··on Lenovo's 'encrypted' fingerprint USB is just an unencrypted SD card in a case
Interesting those those news are quite late, probably because it (and the entire ThinkPlus USB lineup) wasn't available outside CN. The product was first announced 2019, the flaw was found Aug 2025, CVE-2025-13453 was issued early Jan, and Li's presentation was in Mar.

Thought was fake branded product at first and just no one bothered to check, but apparently is available in Lenovo CN's store.

forgotpwd16··on Lenovo's 'encrypted' fingerprint USB is just an unencrypted SD card in a case
This should've been submitted link really. It makes original technical-heavy article more approachable and provides the sources. TH/w offers nothing over it, and neither does the reddit discussion.
forgotpwd16··on OpenIDEA: The IDE you know, rebuilt in Rust
The author's comment appears AI generated (or at very least heavily edited) and (imo) should be taken with a grain of salt. Very probable they don't know or/and thought of any of the usability/maintenance/performance considerations/costs mentioned within and they just blindly accepted whatever Claude generated.
forgotpwd16··on OpenIDEA: The IDE you know, rebuilt in Rust
>but does it makes any sense without feature parity?

The entire project makes no sense. Names itself Open when IDEA is already open, says built in Rust when 60% is TS, says it's native app when it's a web app with a native connection, clueless benchmarks, made by vibe coders who don't even use/need an IDE, ...

forgotpwd16··on Florilegium: Procedural Flowers in LaTeX
It's LaTeX because the reddit post, inquiring on how to do this and which sparked author to make this project and into which author shared it, was made in the LaTeX sub.
forgotpwd16··on Cisco gives engineer unlimited AI tokens to rewrite legacy code
His startup was acquired by Cisco so not weird for Cisco's CPO to know the startup's founder/CEO. That said, not sure how knowledge on speech translation means he's totally qualified on rewriting infra/networking/cybersecurity (Cisco's primary fields of operation) code. Unless the legacy code expected to be rewritten is constrained on related services/solutions, e.g. CVP or/and WebEx.
forgotpwd16··on I'm building LYNX, an open-source DAW inspired by FL Studio, free,cross-platform
Huh, thought ArtCraft slopsuite had something like it. But then again we're moving from the world where we coop to build complex software to one embracing NIH with fleets of agents remaking everything.
