forgottenacc57··on Why I’m dumping Firebase for Web
Try Falcon.
forgottenacc57··on Why I’m dumping Firebase for Web
The issue is that googles reputation is to avoid all contact. This gives less than zero faith in their commitments to support.
forgottenacc57··on Why I’m dumping Firebase for Web
I loathe Googles various scaling limits.

"You need to ask a Google person to scale further, but hey we're Google and we do everything we possibly can to avoid human contact." Bleh.

forgottenacc57··on Prostitution decriminalized: Rhode Island’s experiment
Cause nothing is off topic in HN that's the rules.
forgottenacc57··on Prostitution decriminalized: Rhode Island’s experiment
There's a whole lotta stuff posted to HN, most of it doesn't get discussed even if it's interesting.

It's not a male conspiracy to carefully disregard and disrespect certain topics/posts.

forgottenacc57··on Prostitution decriminalized: Rhode Island’s experiment
Are you saying that in today's politically correct world, HN should rank and give equal front page time to every topic relating to a minority? And also implying subtly that the predominantly male audience of HN prefer prostitution stories over discussion of minority's issues?
forgottenacc57··on Ruby on Rails is out: major coding bootcamp ditches it, due to waning interest
Ruby On Rails is the Elizabeth Taylor of software development.
forgottenacc57··on Ask HN: What qualities do you look for in a junior developer?
Find a smaller number of experienced people.
forgottenacc57··on Ask HN: How do you find clients when you have no network and can only do remote?
Where the heck in the world has NO networking?
forgottenacc57··on Ask HN: How do you find clients when you have no network and can only do remote?
You need RFC1149 networking https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1149.txt
forgottenacc57··on Dun and Bradstreet teams up with Microsoft to reimagine the power of data
Meh.
forgottenacc57··on Microsoft/.Net Foundation added telemetry to the dotnet command line last year
People remain the same people and companies remain the same companies.

It's in microsofts DNA to build stuff that captures and watches and monitors and logs.

Just because they've started to be more open, won't change the fundamental company attitude and approach to doing things.

Microsoft will simply be bringing more "Microsoftiness" to the open source world. Get used to it, there's more coming cause that's the way they build software.

I would suggest that it is time to rethink some of those outdated assumptions that tools won't spy on you. Microsoft have arrived at the open source party, so open source isn't the same any more, just accept that the world has changed and now it's entirely possible that your open source is logging and watching.

forgottenacc57··on How do I know if I'm good at programming?
I'm not a fast programmer nor the smartest, but I am a relentless problem solver. I'm the terminator of problem solving ..... once I get stuck into working something out I just can't rest till I've cracked the case.
forgottenacc57··on How do I know if I'm good at programming?
You're good at programming if you work hard at really learning your craft.... learning some things to deep expert level and many things to competence. So many programmers make no determined effort to learn - they are the shit programmers.

Can I say this? What a fucked up country.
forgottenacc57··on Americans think they live in a democracy. But workplaces are small tyrannies
Edward DeBono calls democracy a "dictatorship of the majority", i.e. we vote in a new dictator every 4 years.
forgottenacc57··on How ready is the U.S. for a North Korean missile attack?
War is going to look like nothing compared to what happens to civilization when the ice caps have melted.
forgottenacc57··on How ready is the U.S. for a North Korean missile attack?
It's such a silly question. No one is readu for a missile attack except the navy. And no one can prevent a missile attack despite all the bluster about missile defense systems, again, except the navy, and the only reason the navy can defend is because ships are such small targets compared to countries and cities, so navy defensive systems have a chance of hitting incoming missiles because there is some certainty about what they are aimed at. Even then I wouldn't give a ship much of a chance against multiple incoming missiles.

The only positive thing working for the target when it is a city is that ICBMs are likely to fail to hit and detonate precisely as intended.

forgottenacc57··on Australian PM Calls for End-To-End Encryption Ban
It's stupid cause it doesn't solve the problem it is intended to.
forgottenacc57··on How Do Venture Capitalists Make Decisions?
Is it a perfect team, with a complete working product, massive user base and sales and no risk and lots of other investors wanting in? We're in!

Else, "Your company is not a fit for us right now but keep us in the loop."

forgottenacc57··on Ask HN: Does HN store IP addresses to identify users?
Is there a safer alternative such as using salted hashed ip addresses?
forgottenacc57··on Ask HN: Does HN store IP addresses to identify users?
Ok so in the event of an HN hack, real users will effectively be indirectly DOXed?

forgottenacc57··on Making $0 in Sales in 31 Days
Put all these ideas into one big system, free sites for vets, upsell vet management systems as pro services, make it fun with cat video uploads.

Your original idea of selling websites and getting vets to pay, well you can mail that one back to 1997 when that was a good idea.

forgottenacc57··on Making $0 in Sales in 31 Days
Yeah but there's lots of cat owners who want to read about cats and (speculating) cat health diet and behavior and maybe show cat photos and talk cat.

Build a website for them and do the cold calls to cat food suppliers to sell ads.

Or sell websites to cat owners for their cat - every cat needs a website.

Or make "hot or not" for cats.

Or combine all these into one site.

The internet was mostly made for porn and cats so you should be able to get the cat thing to work.
