free2OSS··on R adds native pipe and lambda syntax
What kind of stat problems?

Also I used to love Python... Until I got a full time job and learned why static typing exists.

free2OSS··on Major Flaws of Human Thinking
I wonder if philosophy can solve the first 4?

The later through Science/logic where it's possible.

free2OSS··on Ask HN: What Linux Desktop Environment do you use on tablets?
Same question but for general Linux distros.

Not sure I'm willing to try Ubuntu for the 8th time. I use Linux server all the time, but I don't want to mess with configurations and installing a bunch of unique software to get netflix to work. More bloatwear the better. (I half joke)

free2OSS··on How 700 Epidemiologists Are Living Now, and What They Think Is Next
Epidemiologists are the experts, I'm baffled why so many people are asking physicians about coronavirus.

Physicians are not scientists, they aren't supposed to make policy decisions.

It goes to show how few people understand what Science is and probably more dangerously that Medical is mistakenly thought as Science. (Medical is older than the scientific revolution,it's a hybrid of Tradition/Authority/Art/Science)

free2OSS··on How 700 Epidemiologists Are Living Now, and What They Think Is Next
No Politicians framed the issue like this. Canceling school in 3 month bursts is a political move because it's much harder to tell a generation of parents their kids won't return to school for 2-3 years.

Shame on our politicians, shame of Fauci for not making this clear.

free2OSS··on Exotic Programming Ideas
I'll give you some credit since Programming is not Science/Engineering but rather some combination of Science/Authority/Tradition/Art.

But in science fields, authors names don't really matter. The same outcome will exist regardless who is studying it.

free2OSS··on Exotic Programming Ideas
It's best to seperate the human from their technical work.

I do technical work and unfortunately can't contain my Politics on social media (due to their psychology tricks). I know both Republicans and Democrats will dismiss my math because I don't belong to their side.

free2OSS··on Google readies its own chip for future Pixels, Chromebooks
I find the opposite True.

I imagine you watch lots of Apple ads.

free2OSS··on Google readies its own chip for future Pixels, Chromebooks
Build quality is a term non engineers use. It's a marketing term.

Seems like you got sucked up into it.

Edit- butterfly keyboard, airpods, bad iphone signals come to mind

free2OSS··on Google readies its own chip for future Pixels, Chromebooks
Don't call it a garden. That's just propaganda from the dictators.
free2OSS··on What we can learn from the latest indoor dining study
So what? Kn95 mask it up.

Your gym population isn't going to clog up hospitals.

And we need to kill this myth that every old person lives with their kid.

Terrible Unscientific policy is causing more damage than if we did nothing.

free2OSS··on What we can learn from the latest indoor dining study
The whole opening bars/restaurants/casinos but closing gyms is mind boggling.

I understand keeping the population subdued with circuses, but you'd think politicians would realize the gym is a positive outlet that will reduce coronavirus deaths by having a healthy population.

My gym group broke up and 1 guy became overweight. Went from a no risk Coronavirus to high risk because Politicians messed up his routine.

free2OSS··on What we can learn from the latest indoor dining study
I read that Japan is doing well because they use kn95 masks.

It baffles me we haven't been giving these away to old and obese people.

free2OSS··on Google readies its own chip for future Pixels, Chromebooks
I'd be shocked if this ever made it to production.

I'd be more shocked if they did this for 2 generations of pixels.

The problem with vertical integration is how fast you can be obsolete by competitors. You only need 1 competitor to make a better product and your internal Engineers are going to be begging for it.

Unlike Apple customers, the rest of the population is sensitive to performance and cost. If Google can't compete people move on.

Edit- Samsung is not a flagship company, their high pricing has nothing to do with performance. At best they are mid tier.

free2OSS··on US House passes federal cannabis decriminalisation bill
Democrats want less tariffs?

I would love a Neoliberal Democratic party.

free2OSS··on US House passes federal cannabis decriminalisation bill
Big policy changes spends your political capital.

You are going to be getting angry phone calls. Better to get those angry phone calls in exchange for a spending bill that goes to your donors/constituents.

Elections have razor thin margins. What benefit does the politician get?

free2OSS··on US House passes federal cannabis decriminalisation bill
That unfortunately isn't the Republican platform.

We are taught that in school, but their policy doesn't line up with that.

There is a strong debate to be made Biden is more fiscally right leaning than Trump. Where Trump was big into economic intervention (higher taxes through tariffs and SALT Deduction removal, higher deficit, new government spending projects, tax credits, free money, and restricting commerce on bump stocks).

free2OSS··on US House passes federal cannabis decriminalisation bill
The timing here is awfully Political.

I imagine Democrats wouldn't do this if they had control of the government.

Seems like lip service to their bases.

free2OSS··on No One Wants Used Clothes Anymore (2018)
Be careful not to confuse expensive brands for durable stuff.
free2OSS··on No One Wants Used Clothes Anymore (2018)
I have an even lower cost industry, Programming/coding/mechanical turk.

You can do this on a rpi3.

No need for machines, a supply chain, logistics.

Sure traditionally this was true, but it's a saturated developed market.

Had to take issue with the overly simplified economics here.

free2OSS··on No One Wants Used Clothes Anymore (2018)
I think people forget that "quality" stuff survives, but there was always a cheap alternative to "quality".

The olden days were not better. Obligatory-"survivorship bias"

free2OSS··on Reddit Claims 52M Daily Users, Revealing a Key Figure for Social-Media Platforms
What kind of phone doesn't let you turn off notifications by app?
free2OSS··on An update to storage policies across your Google Account
Email is the tightest grip Google has on me. Maybe YouTube.

But their Google music fail, their rising phone prices, their bait and switch photo storage, and low quality search results have caused me to change.

Any alternatives to Chrome, Firefox on both Android and Desktop are buggy, I want a different company?

free2OSS··on Amazon reportedly has Pinkerton agents surveil workers who try to form unions
It's pretty easy to avoid Amazon if you are Frugal. Walmart online is cheaper.

Most people are too lazy to look at another store.

free2OSS··on Amazon reportedly has Pinkerton agents surveil workers who try to form unions
Private sector unions are fine as long as we let capitalism play out. No bailouts/taxes when GM/Ford/Chrysler can't afford to pay the bills.

Public sector unions are a danger to society. A monopoly in monopoly will take down the whole country.

free2OSS··on U.S. bill proposes only banks should issue stablecoins
The value vs USD doesn't change.
free2OSS··on U.S. bill proposes only banks should issue stablecoins
Why bring race into this?

Is it nonsensical emotional junk used to move the uneducated masses?

I'm no Trump supporter, but when I hear something so disconnected from policy it has a "Mexico will pay for it" vibe.

Edit- you guys read the article?

free2OSS··on The “$20M to $500M” Question: Adding Top Down Sales
I was listening to a Philosophy podcast and a philosopher noted that Artisans were different than merchants. It got me thinking. Are there examples of a solo founders/Engineers being able to make sales?

While I'm often praised for my Engineering abilities/content on my website, I've been unable to profit.

My service is (best in class) helpful to low income people and/or Time Poor people. I have struggled putting up a paywall and made a mere 1600$ in donations over 2 years. Prior to donations I made 1k/yr off book sales.

Any marketing people I hired failed to generate traffic, but I'm starting to consider I simply need sales.

Edit- no I can't post my website, one dictator here doesn't like me. But if you are in the Frugal community, you have visited it.

free2OSS··on S&P Dow Jones Indices to launch cryptocurrency indexes in 2021
Wait until you hear about gold index funds/trusts....

Anyway, the reason you buy it is so you don't need to manage the security.

Both Binance and Circle Pay ended United States operations causing my friends to either move their Bitcoin or they didn't and had it sold at 3k/coin and can get it from their states "lost money".

free2OSS··on AWS just went multi-cloud
Fortune 500 sure. But mid and small business have 0 negotiation power, it's extremely expensive to migrate data, and they can't afford a legal battle(as threat).
