...and the price of eggs. Don't forget that.
fyrepuffs··on 3D reconstruction of the capital of the Aztec empire
Actually better is the book "The Fifth Sun: A new history of the Aztecs" written in Nahuatl (the Aztec language) and translated by Camille Townsend. It is an account of how the Aztecs viewed conquest, which they didn't see as a conquest initially. Also the descriptions of the city of Tenochitlan indicate that it was just as sophisticated, and cosmopolitan as it is today: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_Sun:_A_New_History_of_th...
fyrepuffs··on Ozempic is changing people's skin, say plastic surgeons
People are coming to them with sagging skin from Ozempic. Since 6% of Americans are on it now (according to that article), how is that competition for the plastic surgeons?
fyrepuffs··on Frida Kahlo's final painting vanished into storage
I think this is a good point. It might be because artists typically reject mainstream culture or that they distance themselves from it in order to comment on it.
fyrepuffs··on Amazon is filled with garbage e-books, this is how they get made
Nobody at all guessed that this would happen.
fyrepuffs··on This is a teenager
That's because Canada has safety nets for people. They have affordable healthcare and places to turn to if you're out of work and need assistance. It's because Canada is a compassionate society. It doesn't take this down right mean attitude of a "f-u" you're poor because it's your fault.

Yay, finally :=) That orange suite will go with the rest of him very nicely.
fyrepuffs··on Archaeologists ask Netflix to reclassify Graham Hancock’s docuseries as fiction
This is totally misinformed. When research is funded by corporations, we get ideas that are informed from the lunatic fringe that are based on nothing.
fyrepuffs··on Amazon Alexa is on pace to lose $10B this year
Not surprised by this in the least.

fyrepuffs··on Total climate meltdown cannot be stopped, says expert
I would think the silicon valley would be innovating here, but with the exception of a few that's not the case.
fyrepuffs··on Ask HN: Favorite IoT Fleet Management Tool/Service
Take a look at Pantavisor and Pantacor Hub. Open source and enables device fleet updates, device state management and more. Uses its own control plane and container runtime called Pantavisor that manages and runs Linux containers, and converts Docker container too.

fyrepuffs··on In The Atlantic Ocean, Subtle Shifts Hint at Dramatic Dangers
Older article but interesting to see the results in Europe now.
fyrepuffs··on Why Embedded Linux Needs a Container Manager Written in C
The past couple of years have seen a push from cloud-centric companies telling the embedded Linux ecosystem and community that we should make do with cloud technologies like Golang, NodeJS, and Docker. However, most are unaware of the challenges of cramming cloud tools onto resource-constrained embedded systems. Even though some of these frameworks have the right intention, for example, LXD containers, most lack the initiative to understand the specific requirements of embedded Linux devices.
fyrepuffs··on Snow shovelling can kill
That's because they are too busy doing pretty much everything else: dinner planning, shopping and cooking, laundry, cleaning the house, looking after and managing kids and working full-time.
fyrepuffs··on More Millennials Are Having Strokes
Ridiculous. Time for a union. The game industry is fun, but it is not worth your health, especially just to line someone else's pocket.
fyrepuffs··on Open letter to computer science graduates
Great post.
fyrepuffs··on Ask HN: Women in tech, how do you find non-toxic work environments?
You need to interview the company just as they interview you. Ask some questions like what kind of development processes they follow, how they organize themselves and what kind of offsite activities they have. You can tell a lot from the answers about the culture in general. For example do they respect employee's time and do they show good team collaboration and cohesion or are they a 'hero/special snowflake culture'.

If you don't like the answers, then it might not be a good fit for you.
