garrtt··on Appearing productive in the workplace
Yeah, that caught me off guard as well. Is it supposed to be a plot twist revealing the article is written/elongated with AI assistance? Didn’t immediately feel that way upon first reading, but who knows anymore.
garrtt··on Bringing fully autonomous rides to Nashville, in partnership with Lyft
Is there any hope of actually being able to fully own a self driving vehicle as a consumer? Seems that a concerning majority of the autonomous driving conversation is framed in the context of ride-sharing.
garrtt··on Kagi Search API
This is the same reason I still haven't become a paying customer. If Kagi had a similar account creation / payment processing setup as Mullvad VPN I would be all in.

garrtt··on Ask HN: What steps do you take to protect yourself and your family online?
Not very familiar with self hosted emails, could you explain how the subscription emails work? How does putting the website before the @ work? Does your email server then forward those emails to the corresponding family member since I’m guessing the email address doesn’t exist before subscribing.

garrtt··on Sensible macOS Defaults

I would have titled it differently had the creator not referred to the file as such. I even tried changing the title earlier today (I don’t particularly like it either), but it got changed back. Apologies!

garrtt··on Sensible macOS Defaults
I can change the title. I just set it to that because that is what Mathias calls it.

will show you all of them but it's a pretty long list
garrtt··on Sensible macOS Defaults
I agree that calling it sensible is subjective. Most of these I wouldn't even use myself, but I found it to be a good reference overall. I set the title for the post based on the how the creator references the file.
garrtt··on Sensible macOS Defaults
For clarity, I should point out that I don't believe that all of these defaults are "sensible" for every user. I gave the submission it's title because that is how the creator refers to the file.[0]

garrtt··on Turntable.fm is back from the dead – and now there are two
The article mentions it briefly, but I've found a ton of new music through JQBX[0]. If you have a Spotify Premium account and like Turntable.fm it's definitely worth checking out.

garrtt··on Flutter 2
> removed feature disparity

After April 5, I will have to use the app so that I can get back functionality that I once had on the web.

garrtt··on Flutter 2
> Google Pay switched to Flutter a few months ago for their flagship mobile app, and they already achieved major gains in productivity and quality. By unifying the codebase, the team removed feature disparity between platforms and eliminated over half a million lines of code.

> Starting April 5, you won't be able to use pay.google.com to send and receive money from other people. To send and receive money, use the new Google Pay app.

garrtt··on Open source chess developers warn about a commercial engine based on Stockfish
Clicking the link with lichess installed just opens the app. Long-press to open in a new tab.
