gatlin··on The Ubuntu 26.04 Rust sudo is not compatible with standard sudo
It is materially different to the GPL and inferior in all such ways.
gatlin··on Starfall – Affordable, routine access to microgravity
lmao this is in no way similar. Someone being triggered at the thought of a man being Republican is not the same as feeling weird seeing the companies that made machines that blew apart your friends advertised in the neighbors’ driveways.
gatlin··on MicroZig to Adopt Strict No LLM / No AI Policy
Do you perform arbitrary ethical purity tests for other types of contributions? Or just this one solitary rule because the media is talking about it?
gatlin··on Peter Thiel, the tech oligarch who believes in the Antichrist
Also there is no singular antichrist. Samson was an antichrist. We are antichrists when we oppose his will. Thiel is the worst kind of dispensationalist.
gatlin··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
I wasn’t talking about freedom. I was talking about trying to have a mature conversation with people who haven’t willingly severed their forebrains.

I made the claim that Europeans have a right to miss times and places that have gone by. The responses have all been to either suggest this is problematic for unstated reasons or to journey off as you did into a truly unrelated land of non sequitur.

Nope, correct both times. Keep reading, you’ll get it.
gatlin··on Finland Buying a Million Landmines
Do you believe the recent incursion into Ukraine was because of an expansionist goal on the part of Russia? Do you earnestly think Russia wants to control Europe politically?
gatlin··on Rust Style Guide
Seems very much like your goal was to rain on a parade.

Of course having seen this you will still glaze your eyes over and insist nobody has ever made the accusations I claimed they did. Because none of this is about discussion but beating people into submission.

Are you quoting someone? Or disingenuously putting those words in my mouth?
gatlin··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
okay thanks for letting me know you aren’t part of the discussion I’m having
gatlin··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
That wasn’t what I asked. I was asking for the way you will allow people to express themselves so that they can. As it stands, it feels like people assume there is one right way to think and no others need be considered.

Tellingly, your response to that exact question was “just get over it.” No. Sometimes you also must consider views you don’t hold.

gatlin··on Finland Buying a Million Landmines
What does America failing have to do with geriatric Russia not posing a threat to anyone? Do you believe America has been keeping the lid on some seal and protecting people?
gatlin··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
Do you think there is some answer I could give that would alter the circumstances of my life 3 years ago, or are you gearing up to educate me about an event for which you were absent? I’m glad HOAs are rare where you buy houses.
gatlin··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
Is it the case that all people concerned with preserving that with which they are familiar, in all circumstances, are hateful? Because there doesn’t seem to be a way for someone to express sentiment or care for a time and place without someone like you coming in to deliver that precise unfounded moral judgment. I will assume there IS a way to both be attached to something you care about and also be European so please just tell us what that way is so we can move forward. Because the longer people are scolded and called monsters for being attached to little delights they have grown accustomed to that might be changing, the more they will simply begin to identify as monsters. Let’s make room for different points of view.
gatlin··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
Are you really going to sit here and pretend if the place you grew up in and invested your life began changing very drastically in a short time frame you wouldn’t be concerned for things you cherish? Why must the liberals always pretend to be inhuman when trying to discuss human rights? Refugees need homes and love and Germans are allowed to care about their culture.
gatlin··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
Why do you choose not to be immortal?
gatlin··on Florida's HOAs and condo associations are making the housing crisis worse
The houses available in my area and price range all required an HOA. In general it’s not safe to assume all people have all options at all times.

gatlin··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
I weep for people whose scientistic reductionism has led to such devaluation of humanity. Robots don’t do anything and don’t think anything. Humans do things with and through them. What makes us special is that we exist and love one another.
gatlin··on The GitHub wiki is an anti-pattern
Parent comment linked to that answer.
