gauku··on A 10-year-old CNN outperforms frontier LLMs for skin cancer diagnosis
Very sincerely curious to hear why you expect this problem to benefit from such an architectural change?
gauku··on Ask HN: What has been bothering you lately?
Not as a way to get you back in but I believe such behavior should still be reported. To both, the person who referred you and someone who manages said internal recruiter (ideally C levels if it's a small company). It is costing the company a solid candidate and they'd prefer to know as well.
gauku··on Google is using YouTube videos to train its AI video generator
Almost sure that's a tongue-in-cheek response. Right?
gauku··on Programming on Parallel Machines; GPU, Multicore, Clusters and More
The book is in C, not R
gauku··on India suspends visas for Canadians as row escalates
I think the point they are trying to make is pretty clear - Canada, be it due to systemic incompetence or vested political interests, shares a lot of the blame.
gauku··on 1 in 5 adults don’t want children –– and they don’t regret it later
I’ll entertain that thought - How is that a problem?
gauku··on 1 in 5 adults don’t want children –– and they don’t regret it later
To me, your comment perfectly captures the reason why I don’t want to have kids - it’s all about the parent! Maybe the act of bringing a new life into this world should give more consideration to things from that new life’s perspective.
gauku··on Why is a browser extension required to access research papers?
Other issues aside, CatalyzeX has annoyed me for a long time. The creators of the extension used to spam almost all ML/DL related social media. Maybe they still do, I don't know cos now I've stopped following all of those platforms.

Why did it annoy me so much? - They would share the popular, latest papers that most people in the ML sphere would anyways come across if they follow academia twitter or ML subreddit. That is fine in itself but no, those posts would hijack the original source (mostly arxiv or respective project page) by taking you to the CatalyzeX website which is mainly designed to drive traffic to it and has all sorts of irritating design patterns. Mostly, it just felt dishonest and a blatant shadowing of the original authors' hard work to me.

gauku··on Ask HN: Why aren't you coding?
Reading papers that would need coding soon.
gauku··on Computer Graphics from Scratch
This looks great. I have been developing interest in CG recently and this looks like a great way to start. Thank you.

And finding your Imdb profile was a nice addition on top ;)

All the best.

gauku··on Is deep learning a new kind of programming?
As a computer vision engineer, I feel "rarely" quickly changes to "most probably" for a lot of the problems we work on.
gauku··on Ask HN: What are the best advanced computer science courses online?
Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but if advanced ML and related application topics are of interest to you, please check this out - https://www.reddit.com/r/MachineLearning/comments/fdw0ax/d_a...

It's a (organised) dump of advanced courses from some of the best researchers in the field.

gauku··on Real world location virtually recreated to scale in minutes [video]
Unfortunately, I don't know CUDA yet and didn't implement a GPU accelerated version. I can't comment on its feasibility on mobile GPUs but the paper authors reported real-time performance on a GTX-480 + i7 quad-core CPU system.
gauku··on Real world location virtually recreated to scale in minutes [video]
I found this post summarizes the concepts step by step and is really helpful. http://ahumaninmachinesworld.blogspot.com/2015/07/dtam-dense...
gauku··on Real world location virtually recreated to scale in minutes [video]
For a course project, I implemented DTAM - which does dense mapping and tracking, without needing any stereo vision, in real time (on a mid-range GPU). It's really amazing.
gauku··on Contrary to Musk's claim, Lidar has some advantages in Self Driving technology
Blickfeld is working on solid-state LIDAR. From what I've heard from friends working there, their sensor is/will be available for under $1000 which is a huge cost reduction from the current price(LIDAR) == price(car) solutions
gauku··on How Indian IT Workers Discriminate Against Non Indian Workers
I think you missed a lot of time jumping from Vishnupuran to when British arrived. And are we already believing Mahabharatha to be not just a work of fiction?
gauku··on How Indian IT Workers Discriminate Against Non Indian Workers
I'm not much educated on the subject and hope to read more one day but a few weeks ago I found this twitter response from an associate professor of history which begs to differ with you on this.

Though Would like to add the that original brightwork article sounds like a conspiracy theory

gauku··on What is a coder's worst nightmare?
Struggling through their newly released tensorflow-graphics library right now. They wrote it, published some simple, single google-colab tutorials and left it at that. No documentation anywhere else
gauku··on IKEA Effect
I think people are biased towards things that required (or contain some form of) some input from their side.

Robert Cialdini, in his famous book - "Psychology of persuasion", talks about an extreme version of such an effect in the case of Fraternities and Hazing where the members of fraternities display a greater commitment and respect towards their respective fraternity even though they might have had to go through a harsh and humiliating initiation process.

In this sense, IKEA effect, "find" effect, "my kid is the best" effect etc can all be traced to a common ancestor phenomena.
