Love it! Slightly more elegant than my solution: a piece of electrical tape over the clock.

Thanks for the fix -- appreciate the quick action!

Dear Canada,

Please cease this kind of behavior immediately. We're supposed to be the only dumbshits around here.

Yours truly,

Dunno what the longer term effects of this and the other departures will be, but in the world of vibe-finance Alphabet dumped 4.15% of share value as of this minute.

Slightly OT, but this reminded me of Colson Whitehead's _The Intuitionist_[1], an amazing speculative mystery novel about two dueling schools of elevator inspection philosophies: the Empiricists and the Intuitionists.

Take my money!

The best part about Kirkland Roundabouts is that they come in a handy family-size 24 pack.

I'll let myself out.

Just drove past The Brick yesterday. Roslyn's just a bit less rustic these days, e.g., a 2-bedroom 2000sqft house is going to set you back at about $600K.

So the new Turing test is whether a machine can convince you that you are deceased?

Sounds like a good diy project with an old monitor and a raspberry pi...

Not only a tech pioneer, also a genuinely decent human who helped found Social Venture Partners and IslandWood here in the puget sound. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Many thanks to the op -- it's a book I haven't read in about a decade and seems like the right time to revisit.

Blast from the past! I think it was something like 15 years ago when I had an OpenIndiana vm running NexentaStor to control an HP MSA P2000 SAN.

I am not nostalgic for those days.

If you haven't listened to the interview[1], it's is absolutely bananas. Baszucki might want to think about dialing back on the ketamine a bit.

That last one still makes me tear up. What a beautiful way to exit the stage.

"Powerful like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a nerf ball..."

Sometimes a little good old fashioned mayhem is good for employee morale

Among all the incredibly depressing and shitty stories about late-stage capitalist consumer culture I've heard, this has to be one of the most depressing and shittiest.

YMMV, but it works for my org. We're an archival institution and have been using git-annex for more than a decade as the storage backend for a digital repository system designed for long-term, robust preservation. Admittedly, we only have 15-20 staff; but +30TB of data, ~750K files (binaries + metadata), across hundreds of collection repos.

It (Solaris) was also the origin of ZFS, if I'm not mistaken.

Please and thank you!

Hahaha -- can't wait until someone figures out how to hack SRAM's wireless seatpost dropper[1].

And now that government funding sources like IMLS, CLIR, NEH, NARA and LoC have been nuked and/or crippled, things are unlikely to get better any time soon, especially for collaborative research projects that have no immediate commercial benefit.

Ha! Came here to say the same thing...

I wish I could have said it as well as you have here.
