geophph··on America has lost 200k of jobs in media, film and the arts. How much is AI?
Not even short form. I found myself watching an hour and a half long YT video of a dude jet skiing from WA state to Alaska and can’t even hype myself up to watch a feature film.
geophph··on Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on
Turns out AGI boils down to two markdown files:

claude-md-or-agents-md

claude-md-and-agents-md

geophph··on LLMs are making me lose my savviness
Being creative and creating things are not the same?
geophph··on If coding has been solved, why does software keep getting worse?
I’d have no software installed after a week!
geophph··on A Second-Grade Teacher Revived a Beloved Video Game
I was interested at launch but yeah $40 seemed aggressive. Reviews at launch were pretty negative too for a lot of game bugs and unfinished feel. If those get patched up and it seems to improve … i still dunno, kinda steep!
geophph··on If You Build It, They Will Come
> anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity.

Idk seems like it fits the bill still. Maybe not for everyone

geophph··on Punch yourself in the face with reality
it's cunningham's law where the fast LLM generated iteration is the confidently wrong answer that the clients will correct
geophph··on GPT-5.5 Codex reasoning-token clustering may be leading to degraded performance
If the issue comments are to be believed it could be related to the codex system prompt itself so likely just the harness. I agree the wording is weird but they appear to be referencing GPT 5.5 in Codex because yeah there isn’t a GPT5.5 Codex model.
geophph··on Shadcn/UI now defaults to Base UI instead of Radix
This reads like a script to a Theo video
geophph··on GitHub is proud to announce that you can now obtain your public repo on CD-ROM
It’s like when I bought HTMX 2.0 release on floppy
geophph··on Screen time can damage under-twos' development, landmark study suggests
I have no regrets watching the World Cup games with my 3 year old and having him narrate me through everything he’s seeing
geophph··on Incident CVE-2026-LGTM
Oh wow you’re totally right now that I think about it that one burned me too
geophph··on A game where you're an OS and have to manage processes, memory and I/O events
The non-food version of Overcooked!
geophph··on Incident CVE-2026-LGTM
love the extra satire there
geophph··on Incident CVE-2026-LGTM
By this point I’m not sure why everyone isn’t in “default satire” mode.

geophph··on AI coding at home without going broke
> Do that well and you can build what a team of twenty engineers would put out in a month for around a thousand dollars.

What does this look like after 6-12 months? Like, how much code are you trying to write total?

Maybe it just doesn’t click in my mind, but sometimes I wonder about how much work people are trying to do and how they actually have enough to get done so quickly in such a short amount of time.

geophph··on Ask HN: How do you get into a flow state when using AI to code?
Usually take mushrooms or gummies and see what happens.

This isn't even troll post. AI has killed the ability to reach flow for me, but I basically have to use it at work so <shrug>. But if I'm WFH or at night, a little help helps me stay focused and connected to my work, sometimes even with AI. Does my mind drift? sure. But that's as close as I get to flow now.

geophph··on Upcoming breaking changes for npm v12
The maintainer of pnpm mentioned this on the pod rocket podcast recently. Based on recent npm exploits they decided to (and based on a poll they did most users agreed) set to 1 day by default in v11. Can always choose to change it if you desire.
geophph··on Anti-social: It's fads, not friends, which now dominate social media feeds
(Pedantry erupts below)
geophph··on Zig Zen Update
I always read this as a tongue in cheek joke b/c of how the — appears left aligned, then right aligned, then elsewhere in the Zen center aligned, sort of pointing to how yeah there’s multiple ways to do things …
geophph··on Retro-Tech Parenting
Yeah I agree with you fully here. As much as the nostalgia twinges my heart and I want the same for my kids, I’m not sure it’s doing them any favors. Us holding onto a past they never knew doesn’t mean we’re doing “the right thing” for them. Alas, parenting is hard.
geophph··on Retro-Tech Parenting
For me I think 2004 with the launch of Halo 2 and playing over xbox live with the homies.
geophph··on AI job grief: A psychological crisis hitting tech workers
I think for me it's hard to conceptualize what "do what I want to do all day, stress free, for the rest of my life." really means. Maybe it's just because i've been conditioned since a child to expect to "work" and "do things", but periods of my life where i've had that similar amount of freedom have always felt somewhat aimless and purposeless to me. But would i feel that way if i had never felt the need to work and be productive? Not sure.

For me personally, having the right job is actually more interesting to me than doing whatever i want all day then given my conditioning. I think because without the job I wouldn't have the same opportunity to encounter the "problems" i enjoy "solving" at work with critical thinking. It's kinda like training for a sport? Sometimes having a competition or a game is a nice forcing function to make it all feel real?

geophph··on Is AI causing a repeat of frontend’s lost decade?
Yeah coming from the backend world using AI for UI tweaks can really unlock me to have a decent looking app with reasonable UX in a much shorter amount of time. Maybe the code is “slop” but usually I can spend just enough time to take away the cognitive debt and still feel like I’m ending up in a better place
geophph··on Nobody cracks open a programming book anymore
I just bought $600 worth of programming books and I’m pretty stoked to read them. Mostly a lot of titles considered “the classics” but my brain works best with hard print materials.
geophph··on A scoping review of bicycling interventions’ impacts on well-being
Certainly has a huge impact on my own mental health. My commute options are bike (2hr total pretty much without fail) or drive (on average 1:15 total) and even though the 45 min cost is not nothing, I know I’m happier, more pleasant and have less migraines when I commute more steadily by bike than drive. Doesn’t even matter about weather. I really appreciate my time on the bike to get some exercise, be outside, and just generally not be in a car.
geophph··on Wrap Go binaries in Python wheels
I’m curious if I could use this to write my webserver in Go, then call back to Python for the data sciencey stuff over stdin(?), but all in one nice tidy package? I mean right now I use fastapi and write it all in Python but I happen to enjoy writing Go. Does it matter either way? No I have like 4 users, but it seems not too crazy either?
