gergi··on Show HN: Dealta – A game-theoretic decentralized trading protocol
May I ask how you generated this?
gergi··on Joe Biden stands down as Democratic candidate
There are certainly things Biden can be criticized for but your comment is hyperbole that has little bearing on reality -

> most of the major cities here are no longer safe

objectively, nearly every major cities is safer now than at virtually any time in the past 50 or so years.

> massive hordes of illegal immigrants

This uptick trend has been noticeable for the last 30 years so I'm not sure how this is attributable to Biden. Additionally, as a percentage, we are still not yet relative to the percentage of population that is an immigrant as compared to the late 1800s. https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/frequently-requested...

> But yes, I agree, ignoring the reality of all of those things, pretty good!

But yes, I agree, if you ignore reality, you can blame Biden for everything :)

gergi··on Factorio: Space Age
I'm more impressed that only 25.9% have been killed by a moving locomotive ("Watch your step" achievement). Those things are murder-vehicles.
gergi··on An open-source mouse and trackpad utility for Mac
Each of the features provided by the above apps would also require an app to be installed for Windows, too. Not sure how this can be leveled as an OSX criticism.
gergi··on The elite, underpaid, and weird world of crossword writers
If anyone finds this interesting, I would also like to recommend watching Jon Stewart’s Wordplay. It is much more interesting than it sounds.
gergi··on ClockworkPi – uConsole, “fantasy console” for indie game developers
Maybe I’m naive but what exactly is this? I couldn’t figure anything out from the website other than it’s a handheld device that shows a text console. What is a “fantasy console”? Why would a indie game developer want one of these devices?
gergi··on Only virgin type of olive oil consumption reduces the risk of mortality: study
This is not correct. All that means is that the inventory is stored and fulfilled from Amazon’s warehouses. Commingled is a (minority) subset of that.
gergi··on Software engineering books
> amazon only sells counterfeit books anymore

This statement is (obviously) false as 99.9+% of all books sold on Amazon are authentic. Yes, Amazon should do even more to combat counterfeit everything but inflammatory, false comments are not productive.

gergi··on Star Citizen (2015)
Serious question - mind sharing what you enjoy about NMS multiplayer? I tried it recently but the mission goals weren’t shared. So basically, we were playing two “solo” campaigns next to each other and got bored. Is there more to it?
gergi··on Americans are drowning in spam
I have AT&T and see “suspected spam” calls on my iPhone.
gergi··on Best practices for writing code comments
The code should explain what it does. In-line comments should provide explanation for any non-intuitive code that can’t be refactored to an intuitive state. The function comments should be about the intent of the code.
gergi··on Show HN: You.com, private search engine that summarizes the web – built for devs
Beyond what others have mentioned about requiring the Chrome extension, I would strongly recommend altering the language in FAQ - "How do I make You.com my default search engine?"

It vaguely references "the monopoly" in ominous tones. This comes across as petulant and distracting. Just focus on the instructions to set it as the default and how to respond to questions that try to change it back.

gergi··on Apple scores 35 Emmy nominations, including 20 for hit series “Ted Lasso”
Well deserved. It’s a rare show that is not only genuinely funny but makes you feel better about life.
gergi··on Internal Amazon documents shed light on how company pressures out office workers
What percentage of "sensible" Americans? If there's anything we've learned over the past several years, many Americans are not sensible.

My point is that I don't think sensibility is measurable so there is no way to assert "sensible" people want Amazon broken up.

gergi··on Internal Amazon documents shed light on how company pressures out office workers
Source? I consider myself “sensible”, do not agree with this statement, and haven’t seen any data that would suggest the “majority” would agree.
gergi··on YouTube Kids a “vapid wasteland” say US lawmakers
Yes. It is the only “channel” that seems to focus on quality programming instead of marketing/engagement. And the shows are just straight-up excellent.
gergi··on In 2020, two thirds of Google searches ended without a click
In the article, what does CTR stand for? Did miss it?
gergi··on Enjoy the Best, Not the Latest, Media
We must not travel in the same circles. :-)

Of the people I know who have seen a David Lynch movie, I haven’t met anyone who enjoyed them. Speaking for myself, Mulholland Drive is definitely in the running for worst movie I’ve ever seen.

gergi··on Machine Learning Research at Apple
This post makes no sense to me. As one of the so-called FANGs, the data suggests Apple is one of the most desirable jobs out there.
gergi··on Ask HN: If you could work remote where would you live?
What are schools like in Lisbon?
gergi··on Stop the Coronavirus Corporate Coup
> Meanwhile, the liberals are in favor of big business above all else and will gladly vote to bail out companies while their attempts to help working class families is an utter joke.

Your definition of liberal seems very different than the typical definition.

gergi··on Ask HN: Is UK government insane or genius?
Interesting way of managing risk. Curious - Does this rule of thumb have a name?
gergi··on Amazon's empire rests on its low-key approach to AI
No, it's the opposite.
gergi··on Amazon Web Services CEO: We’re a $30b revenue business in the ‘early stages’
I'm not sure how Amazon was mediocre by any measure in 2008 but your second statement is incorrect - AWS only accounts for ~10% of Amazon's revenue. https://venturebeat.com/2019/01/31/amazon-earnings-q4-2018/
gergi··on Tree Style Tabs
The minority on HN, maybe. Definitely not to the general public. The general user is almost certainly not using more than 1 tab at any time.
gergi··on Amazon HQ2: Advanced talks about second headquarters in Northern Virginia
That's only one way of defining it. Without context, it can mean many different things.
gergi··on Amazon HQ2: Advanced talks about second headquarters in Northern Virginia
Geographically, sure. However, "the South" can mean a lot of different things. e.g. "the South" culturally does not apply to much of Virginia, Texas, or Florida.
gergi··on Ask HN: Does anyone know if Apple plans to address the MacBook keyboard issue?
Seems like the post should provide some context. What exactly is the issue?
gergi··on Higher-paid, faster-growing tech jobs are concentrating in 8 US hubs
Seattle has some pros but, of the 9 points listed, 4 of them are wrong - #1-3, as mentioned above, are invalidated by the insane water rates in Seattle. #8 is subjective but this is literally the first time I've ever heard someone say Seattle had a great culture. Edit: Also, the weather in Seattle may be "moderate" temperature-wise but it's definitely not for everyone and the majority of folks would just classify it as "dreary".
gergi··on In Bay Area, six-figure salaries are “low income”
> arguably the outdoor recreation capital of the US ... as long as you don't mind being damp the whole time. It's not a nice place to be outdoors much of the year.
