gexos··on Show HN: Sid– tiny portable system info tool for Windows.
Thanks for the report!

1) The dragging freeze is likely my update loop fighting with the window move – I’ll look into throttling/suspending updates while dragging.

2) The drive text layout is indeed bad. I’ll rework that UI so each drive gets its own proper line.

gexos··on Adblock Plus Is Launching an Ad Exchange
So AdBlock plus now sells advertisements.

I have no problem watching ads on legitimate sites and generally I'm avoiding sites with many ads even if the content is legit.

I understand that some ads must exist for good known reasons, but the way that adblock tries to monetize the whole thing, is something I don't like.

gexos··on Materialistic – Ad free, open source Hacker News client
Materialistic is what I use and I'm very satisfied with the app, the lack of a downvote button is an issue but I can live with out it. Good job Hidro!
gexos··on Ask HN: What Cloud storage provider(s) do you use?
Thanks for sharing the link for rclone.org I'll give it a try asap!
gexos··on Ask HN: What Cloud storage provider(s) do you use?
Google drive for everything important, dropbox for random stuff.
gexos··on Ask HN: Suggest Some Websites Related to Internet Privacy and Net Neutrality
> Looking for some good blogs and website to follow to keep myself updated with recent news in internet privacy and internet freedom.

Two blogs I follow are https://paulbernal.wordpress.com and http://theprivacyblog.com

gexos··on Who Was Kafka?
My apologies, I thought post ranking has to do with karma.
gexos··on Who Was Kafka?
I think it has to do with the user's karma, a post from a user with heavy karma ranks higher, if you noticed there is another post ranked 8th from a user with 20000+ karma and only 5 votes.
gexos··on Ask HN: Who is behind the Linode DDOS attacks?
As for the reason, it's normally trying to get money out of them, or just to take a website offline for a while (e.g. the DDoS is from a competitor).

Exactly!

gexos··on TLDR pages
"It’s like learning how to fish vs. bying fish at the supermarket. Sure, if you know how to fish you can still buy at the supermarket if you’re lazy. But if you don’t you’re stuck with what’s at the supermarket."

+1 Comment of the day.

gexos··on Is visiting HackerNews like Smoking?
Yes it is addictive, I have an everyday urge to check what's going on HN, I also feel I'm earning some IQ points here, of course I loose these points later, but that has to do with me ;)
gexos··on Ask HN: The best app to keep a work diary
Thanks for that, it looks great.
gexos··on LogMeIn acquires Lastpass
What about Password Safe "Passwddsafe" I use it om my computer and android and I'm very satisfied. And of course the fact that is designed by Bruce Schneier is a plus for me.
gexos··on LogMeIn acquires Lastpass
I use keepassx, it will allow you to keep a local repository of all of your passwords and sensitive information encrypted and accessible to all of your team members.

Commonkey is another great program and is free for teams of three.

gexos··on What should I do with 100 powerful servers?
What you and others said, you could also create multiple domains, trusts, set up GPOs for users and user accounts and have fun.

Of course you can always put them on eBay!

gexos··on Ask HN: Outside of HN and Reddit what discussion communities are you a part of?
+1 I love crazyontap

"To live is to war with trolls."

gexos··on Who submits and comments on HN?
Some older posts/polls made on HN provide some interesting demographic facts, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4397332 Look also at http://hnstats.appspot.com .

There are many various HN statistics on different blogs out there, I personally liked this one 3y old http://royal.pingdom.com/2012/08/21/report-social-network-de...

gexos··on This is what happens to your brain and body when you check your phone before bed
F.lux is really great, but is available only for IPhone's, on android I use an app called twilight.
gexos··on Facebook to beam free internet to Africa via satellite
Another step from FB, Google etc. to dominate the ISP market and monitor all politicall and business communications for their governments.
gexos··on Next airline hijacking will be by a hacker from halfway around the world
Thank you dang!
gexos··on How to delete HN account completely?
As far as I know you can't just delete your account completely, deleting all your comments would be unfair, since the whole discussion would likely break apart.

But you can try to send an email either at info@ycombinator.com or pg@ycombinator.com and ask to make your account inactive, you could also change your email and delete any personal information.

gexos··on Ask HN: How to Find Open Source Projects to Contribute To
First think to consider is what you're interested in, there are many places to look at, like github.com, sourceforge.com (lot of orphaned projects), openhatch.org, google code of course and you should also check http://open-advice.org, is somewhat different from the others:

"Open Advice is a knowledge collection from a wide variety of Free Software projects. It answers the question what 42 prominent contributors would have liked to know when they started so you can get a head-start no matter how and where you contribute. "

Good luck!

gexos··on This is what happens when kids try dial-up Internet for the first time
Oh... those horrible screeching sounds, for me is music to my ears so many memories!
gexos··on Ask HN: Any recent alternative to “”http the definitive guide“
The book is outdated but still has a tone of useful information ant it fully covers HTTP 1.1, which is still the most up-to-date version of HTTP protocol. According to W3Techs only 1.2% of all websites support HTTP/2 (August 2015).
gexos··on Ask HN: Is there an API to get what is trending at this time?
I only know topsy.com, never used their api but they're twitter's only valid partner on trends and stats etc. http://about.topsy.com/support/api/ i hope it helps.
gexos··on Canarytokens.org – Quick, Free, Detection for the Masses
A very nice idea, In this post, http://leonjza.github.io/blog/2015/09/10/canarytokens-the-ma... Leon Jacobs jots down his findings when investigating the documents generated by this project.
