Sounds like Elizabeth Holmes next project.

That's the definition of a White Hat to me.
ghostbrainalpha··on eMudhra ignored Mozilla Root investigation deadline; blames social media
I was involved in the an incident like this, and the intense pressure for public immediate action led to the (firing or resignation) of multiple people who were actually needed for the investigation.

Something that could have been fully analyzed with those people in a couple weeks ending up taking two years with an independent outside auditor.

The independent auditor would have been needed either way, but if we gave the original crew the opportunity to respond, THEN fired them, the outside auditor could have just verified the story much more quickly.

ghostbrainalpha··on How I got over 300 Tor exit nodes removed
So one person single-handedly knocked out 10% of the entire Tor exit network over an SSH port redirection?

If you are talking about take a screen shot, analyze move the window a bit, take another screenshot, move the window, repeat until they have seen enough of the map to make a decision, then decide what to click on, issue order.... this could absolutely be done. It's very similar to how LLM's have driven a car on a safe track.

But right now the response time would be so slow that the bot would not be close to competitive except with the most low level players. Especially because its hard to click on things that are moving at the same time as well.

Sometime soon, I'd like to see an LLM be competitive using only computer vision, mouse movement, and locked into a human possible number of actions per minute.

ghostbrainalpha··on Sam Altman at an Apple Event in 2008
Sam Altman helped bring us the future, but you can tell by double layered polo he also has deep connections to the past. To be doing that in 2008.......
ghostbrainalpha··on Claude partial outage
Acceptable.
ghostbrainalpha··on House with 15m underground tunnels for sale for 300k
I don't know how close you have been following but she did get shut down.

And she had to do a lot to get it permitted and set back up.

ghostbrainalpha··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
I love all these books especially Sam Harris, but from one atheist to another, are you ok? This is a really heavy dose to be doing in one year. And if your fun reads are Cormac... it looks exactly like my reading list when I'm depressed.
ghostbrainalpha··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
Starting Goblin Emperor based on your recommend.
ghostbrainalpha··on McDonald's push to have AI price your Big Mac
Counterpoint: Restaurants have ALWAYS had dynamic pricing. It is called "Happy Hour". Dynamic pricing for an eatery serves an important purpose besides just gouging the customer. It moves customer traffic away from the intense surge at standard breakfast, lunch and dinner times which is a hard problem for businesses to work around.

You DESERVE a discount for patronizing them during their slower periods.

There is a TV show called "Alone" where people have to live in a remote area using basic survival skills and very minimal tools. It's interesting, but I've always wanted to see a version of that show where small communities are competing against each other.

If we practiced for these Armageddon scenarios what would a highly prepared group of 20 be able to accomplish in a year. How fast could they get humanity back to the bronze age?

ghostbrainalpha··on Claude partial outage
This is the type of movie I would be so excited about until I found out it was made by Seth Rogan.

ghostbrainalpha··on Hollywood's Video Game Era Is Here. Will It Be Any Good?
Castlevania deserves a spot on the list.
ghostbrainalpha··on I'm becoming AI-blind
I've got a 3 step instruction to compress Ai text into useful info.

1. Ask it to write according to the Google Developer Documentation guidelines. Gets rid of fluff, less emotional statements, no it's not x it's why.

2. Tell it you have extreme ADHD and need everything condensed as much as possible. You can always ask for expansion on an answer later.

3. Bullet points whenever possible.

ghostbrainalpha··on Activation Energy is a good model for a lot of things
It seems like you have fought procrastination and put some real thought and effort into it.

Do you have any other recommendations like books to read or strategies you have tried?

ghostbrainalpha··on Almost no skill required to cook a steak
Am I the only one who thinks the "reverse sear" is like cheating? It takes out all of the skill when you move from the pan to the oven, and I lose all of the fun in learning to be chef.
ghostbrainalpha··on Europe's fires are just the start
How can articles on major news sites have typos this bad up for over a month?

"The crisis in France has claimed dozens of lives, with 40 people drowning while attempting to call off from the heat since June 18"

Call off should be "cool off".

And forgive me if this is a stupid question, but don't nuclear power plants produce enough energy that they could power their own cooling? Why do they have to rely on the free cooling provided by a river?

ghostbrainalpha··on I Stopped “Creating Content”
Stewart Lee did an hour of standup comedy on this same theme.

It's called "Stewart Lee: Content Provider" and its hilarous.

ghostbrainalpha··on Show HN: An 8-bit live gamecast for baseball
Football MIGHT be slow enough that you could animate the plays Techmo Bowl style.

It would certainly be fun to attempt it. You might have to mix in some pre-defined animations for "run up the middle", that could do minimal updates like Jersey numbers.

ghostbrainalpha··on Disney erased FiveThirtyEight
Polls became much less interesting as an Entertainment category once we all had experience with how unreliable they are.
