ghushn3··on Google has dropped more than 50 DEI-related orgs from one of its funding lists
> Let's shut down these employee networks based on immutable characteristics.

Each of these networks is open to everyone. You can be straight and a member of the LGBTQ+ network just fine. You can be white and join the Black network too.

The networks exist because people have (and are) the targets of persecution. It's nice to find other people who will understand what that feels like and make connections and advocate for less systematic persecution.

> Consider the type of people that would judge you over a cybertruck.

I think we call those "most people".

ghushn3··on Telo MT1
> Even Cybertruck struggles to

The cybertruck is built pretty poorly. I think we can use truck stats from reputable automakers.

> There's a reason electric trucks haven't taken off for real work use cases.

When were electric trucks realistically available on the market for a reasonable price?

I use a truck regularly (forestry industry), there's huge desire for them, they just haven't been around until very recently. You can't buy a secondhand ol beatup electric truck yet, so I don't expect them to be taking off yet.

ghushn3··on A.I. researchers are negotiating $250M pay packages
I don't think I've ever understood the motivation behind working for so much money. If I got paid $250M a year, I'd work a year and then live comfortably for the rest of my life pursuing my passions. Even if the thing I was doing for work was my passion, I'm sure I'd prefer to do it without ownership of that work going to someone else.

6,600lb tow capacity. You can dislike a thing, but like, you should probably at least get the facts straight.
ghushn3··on Telo MT1
Why did you put airquotes around truck? It's got a 60 inch bed and seats 4. What truck quality is it missing?

Welcome to 2025.

It also looks like shit and carries huge social baggage. ;)

A John Deere is absolutely a fashion statement, lol. You gotta meet more farmers, because the fights I see break out over Case IH, John Deere, New Holland, and Cat are unreal.
ghushn3··on Telo MT1
I think it looks great? It evokes a Kei truck to me, but with more modern styling.

This rules. I hope it succeeds. More smaller vehicles designed for urban spaces please!
ghushn3··on The natural diamond industry is getting rocked. Thank the lab-grown variety

Boomers held significantly higher percentages of capital than millenials or genx holding age steady.

https://www.nber.org/papers/w27123

Studies have shown wealth declining for millenials while increasing for boomers.

https://www.self.inc/info/generational-wealth-gap/

And it's across multiple forms of wealth.

ghushn3··on The natural diamond industry is getting rocked. Thank the lab-grown variety
I have an outdoor fireplace filled with shattered tempered glass. It's like, rough, chunky glass pebbles.

It's much much more complex that a solid sheet of tempered glass, and it catches the light and reflects it in sparkling ways.

Maybe these so called "complex" diamonds create more interesting light interfaces?

ghushn3··on The natural diamond industry is getting rocked. Thank the lab-grown variety
If that was true, you'd expect the younger professionals of today would have comparative amounts of wealth to the boomers when they were young professionals. It's absolutely not the case. Each generation is getting poorer and poorer as they hit the same benchmarks.

This tracks with broad trends of wealth inequality increasing as well.

So no, it's not just "they haven't accumulated yet", because it's not clear they will have the opportunity to do so.

> With age, you get betrayed in your ideals.

Some of us old-heads got pushed much farther left as a result of this. I used to be a Democrat, blue and blue. These days I'm much more like, "The Dems will sell me out to make a buck, I gotta go out and actually be the change I want to see in the world."

Young folks who are experiencing disillusion -- don't give in to despair. You can make a meaningful difference in lives. Build communities, engage in mutual aid, whatever.

ghushn3··on The natural diamond industry is getting rocked. Thank the lab-grown variety
I don't think those are orthogonal.

Natural diamonds are more expensive, and they therefore have a conspicuous consumption element to them. That could be valuable as a means to gain social cachet. Except you'd have to speak loudly about how they were natural.

And in doing so you are loudly proclaiming you don't care about human suffering it took to get the diamonds. That's probably fine in very wealthy circles, but in upper middle class/upper-upper middle class circles, it's likely quite gauche.

If the natural ones didn't have this faux pas attached to them by default, then they might carry more interest as a "I saved up for these" class indicator.

ghushn3··on AI overviews cause massive drop in search clicks
If you append a ? to your search it will prompt an AI query. And you can uprank/downrank results so I'm not sure in what universe it could be worse.
ghushn3··on Electric cars produce less brake dust pollution than combustion-engine cars
What are you doing to your tires that they only last 10k miles? I think that might be a driver error issue, because my EV (a heavier sedan) basically never needed tire replacement barring me running over a screw or something.
ghushn3··on AI overviews cause massive drop in search clicks
You can try it for free. I did my 300 searches on it and went, "Yep. This is better." and then converted to a paid user.
ghushn3··on Cops say criminals use a Google Pixel with GrapheneOS – I say that's freedom
Cops say a lot of things. I trust next to none of them.

In fact, if cops say a thing there's a reasonable chance that it's the opposite of what I should be listening to.

ghushn3··on AI overviews cause massive drop in search clicks
I subscribe to Kagi. It's been worth it to have no ads and the ability to uprank/downrank sites.

And there's no AI garbage sitting in the top of the engine.

ghushn3··on Signs of autism could be encoded in the way you walk
They do this when they aren't competing? Just like, cooking, getting dressed, brushing their teeth?

We're not talking about how to use the body when performing in their sport/art, but how they hold their bodies at all times.

ghushn3··on Signs of autism could be encoded in the way you walk
They might share a lot or might share nothing. Autism is an umbrella diagnosis over a wide range of behaviors and support needs. Diagnostically, it currently has a 1-3 scale across two broad support areas, with one being low support needs and 3 being high support needs. (From the DSM.)

That said, the reasons for autism are not well understood, and there may be many different root causes that lead to the umbrella diagnosis.

Additionally, experiences vary widely -- some autistic folks do not ever feel hungry and must be reminded to eat (or build support systems for it). Others do not ever feel full and must be reminded to not eat (or build support systems for it). Interoception (the perception of your body's internal signals) is impaired for many autistic folks.

Some of us experience misophonia, and get extreme fight or flight responses to audio signals -- personally, I get extremely agitated if I hear someone eating with their mouth open. (To be clear, it's not annoyance. It's fear/anger/hate/danger sense.)

ghushn3··on Signs of autism could be encoded in the way you walk
What do you mean, supposed to be autistic? Like it's some destiny someone prophesied when you were conceived?
ghushn3··on Signs of autism could be encoded in the way you walk
Most athletes I'm aware of allow their heels to touch the ground. Unless you are aware of a bunch of athletes that walk around like velociraptors, and if you are, please share!
ghushn3··on Signs of autism could be encoded in the way you walk
I tend to agree, as an autistic person. And a lot of autistic people hold the belief that, "My autism is not a problem, your expectations that I behave like you do are the problem."

If I need to move a little differently, or not hold eye contact when I speak, the fact that I get made fun of is the problem. If we just accepted, "hey, some people are like that" more, I think we'd have a lot fewer problems.

ghushn3··on What Was Cyberpunk? In Memoriam: 1980-2020 (2020)
I agree -- Gibson is never the one saying he's invented the genre. He's been consistent about this for decades (and even finds the genre itself to be kinda nonsense.) It's mostly fans who push for the Sprawl Trilogy to be this bolt from a clear sky.
ghushn3··on Oakland cops gave ICE license plate data; SFPD also illegally shared with feds
In fact, 70% of jail population is not convicted of a crime. Seven-Zero.

Roughly half a million people are in jail despite not being convicted of anything. That's roughly 25% of the incarcerated population in the US. 1/4 people behind bars are (presumed) innocent right now, even if they may later be found guilty.

That's a problem. Being in jail for a few weeks or even a few days can totally fuck someone's life over, costing them a job, a relationship, their health, or worse.

ghushn3··on What Was Cyberpunk? In Memoriam: 1980-2020 (2020)
I don't think I made the claim it was solely influenced by new wave and feminist authors from the seventies. I suspect the workers rights movement (luddism), cybernetics, and different views of dystopia (including those penned by folks like Le Guin) contributed to shaping it.
ghushn3··on What Was Cyberpunk? In Memoriam: 1980-2020 (2020)
It's sort of it's own thing -- a pre-post-apocalypse novel, an earthseed novel, a cautionary tale, a book about the fall of empire. But I agree, it's probably not a cyberpunk novel.

That said, it's in conversation with the genre, imo, and imagines a different way late stage capitalism can go -- not up into dystopian spires and neon lights, but down into instability due to climate change, growing wealth inequality, and corporate greed.
