Pretentious
giantfuzzypanda··on Reddit costs $33k/month to operate?
Yep. That's why you shouldn't have pylons noobs running a site like reddit.

giantfuzzypanda··on Reddit launches a new search engine
Whoops, forgot that HN doesn't have search. >.<

You know what you're talking about, so I'll agree that you're right, but the simple action of searching titles of submissions on Reddit didn't work. That makes it seem like that there's something wrong with their code or database setup. Reddit's source code is pretty disgusting.

giantfuzzypanda··on Reddit launches a new search engine
There are tons of sites like reddit. Digg, delicious, Hacker News itself...it's not a good sign that Reddit needs to outsource its search to IndexTank, when literally every other site like it can handle search themselves.

giantfuzzypanda··on Hacker News Daily (announcement)
Yes, but according to the FAQ they're ranked like this:

"On the front page, by points divided by a power of the time since they were submitted. Comments in comment threads are ranked the same way."

giantfuzzypanda··on Hacker News Daily (announcement)
Nice site, just added my blog. Only problem I see is that if it does keep growing and becomes popular, then people could add feeds of irrelevant blogs, and like most social news sites it would turn into a digg/reddit.
giantfuzzypanda··on Ask HN: What's your computer setup?
Try harder.
giantfuzzypanda··on Is Google App Inventor A Gateway Drug Or A Doomsday Device For Android?
Things like Lego Mindstorms help kids move on to the next step - maybe Visual Basic or Python. No one starts off with programming, it's usually WYSIWYG or similar paradigms.
giantfuzzypanda··on How to Identify a Narcissist on Twitter
Easy - they have a twitter account.
giantfuzzypanda··on Brain - javascript neural networks
This is very cool. Interesting code too: http://github.com/harthur/brain/blob/gh-pages/examples/brain...
giantfuzzypanda··on Google agrees to buy ITA Software for $700 million
ITA Software provides the back-end for other online travel companies. They don't actually sell tickets, so if someone is misinformed about their site and tries to buy a ticket they are told where to actually do so.
giantfuzzypanda··on Feedback on my startup job aggregator
I never said that the site was bad. In fact I said its simplicity was a good thing. I was just saying that it is relatively easy to make.
giantfuzzypanda··on Feedback on my startup job aggregator
Really?

script/generate a few scaffolds, throw in a has_many or two and maybe a belongs_to here or there, code some simple erb layouts and BOOM!

If you downvote me, at least reply with a reason.

giantfuzzypanda··on Feedback on my startup job aggregator
I love how simple it is. In fact, this couldn't have taken more than 30 minutes to make. Not always a bad thing though.

Giving users the ability to find jobs where they live might be a good idea right? Maybe. Who knows, maybe you prefer scrolling through 50 pages instead.

giantfuzzypanda··on Yaler - a simple, open and scalable relay infrastructure for the Web of Things
Would also like to know. I think for commercial systems you would have to create a solution yourself, or else a commercially usable system like this would be well-known.
giantfuzzypanda··on Yaler - a simple, open and scalable relay infrastructure for the Web of Things
True, but this seems great for a personal project/experiment.
giantfuzzypanda··on What should I do with my life?
> The truth is evolution selects the best adaptation for the specific ecosystem.

Evolution is completely random.

giantfuzzypanda··on How to use time travel to improve your life.
Sounds like someone watched Primer a few too many times.
giantfuzzypanda··on Will This Be The New Google Web Design?
I think usability testing has shown the middle of the page is the most scanned part.
giantfuzzypanda··on Why Math Matters
A collegeboard article? Really? Come on. Don't upvote articles written by the marketing team of a scamming corporation.

giantfuzzypanda··on Ask HN: Could you help me improve my site?
Good point, changed it.
giantfuzzypanda··on Ask HN: Could you help me improve my site?
Thanks for testing this stuff out! That admin page is actually broken, I don't actually have a working admin page. As for the XSS stuff, I'm going to go fix that.
giantfuzzypanda··on Ask HN: Could you help me improve my site?
Yeah I pretty much ripped off Google in an attempt to make the site look clean. I don't know if I want to hire someone yet, but I'll make a few changes to the CSS in the next few minutes to see what happens. I have a nice logo that someone on Reddit made me, but I haven't put it up yet.

To anyone that views this site in the next 15 mins: come back later! mega css-reconstruction in progress.

giantfuzzypanda··on Ask HN: Could you help me improve my site?
Thanks for the feedback, try now?
giantfuzzypanda··on Ask HN: Could you help me improve my site?
>.< There was an issue with .downcase! returning nil, fixed it.

Can you try again please?
