Interesting, but my system ram isn't that much. I think I've decided to go with Ollama Gemma4:12B. I just need to decide if I want to hook it into local Open Code or local Claude Code. I'm leaning towards Claude if it doesn't send any usage data back to Anthropic.
I was doing some more research and think Gemma 4 12B would be a good model for my uses. I like that it has audio support, which I might have a use case for. It seems like it's close to Claude code running on older version of Sonnet, which would be good for me.
Anybody have experience running Gemma 4 12B locally? How do you like it? Any similar alternatives I should consider?
Something doesn't right to me. Shouldn't the streaks vary more in their length? They all seem really similar, which given the set time of 8 seconds would mean the speed to relative distance relationship would have to be near constant for all. Some of the ones on an approaching/departing path seem to show a small variation. But are none of these on an elliptical orbit with the appogee in view? Should have a much bigger variation, I would think?
Depends on how much it breaks, how risky the vulnerability is, what mitigating controls are in place, etc. That's all part of vulnerability management and business risk management. But typically, you upgrade you the safe versions and fix anything that's broken.
Dependabot isn't very useful in my view. I would rather have static and build scans (Wiz, Checkmark, etc) telling me about vulnerabilities and blocking critical and highs. Then we can analyze if the vulnerability is exploitable in our system or not. If it is, we can upgrade and deploy ourselves. Even if we were using Dependabot we would still need to do all the testing and deployment steps, which is the much bigger lift.
Seems like you're just turning this into a political grievance. It seems other teams are still supportive of open source policies and it was just that one team that was shut down.
That could be useful. An easy implementation might to to track temperature trends with power draw relative to the other units. You might have to account for door openings, but seems like a good way to mark units for mechanical inspection.
Looking for ideas for jobs that have flexible part time hours, are remote (US located), and have a lower skill levels required, such as data entry. This is for a friend who does not have deep tech skills but needs some extra work. Please comment with suggestions.
Yeah, lots of good conversation on steps to take. One thing I never see mentioned is who should review and test them. Especially for a financial company, it seems they have no IT compliance/audit functions. Even at many big companies it seems IT control creation, maintenance, and testing is largely ignored or just put onto the people implementing and performing the control - a huge conflict of interest. Control analyst posting are something like 1 to 10K when measured against dev postings. Really telling when it comes to what companies actually care about...
Or just do it the better, manual, way - point a heat lamp and fan at it with the unit open. Even if you melt the ice inside, you still need to remove the moisture. The manual process is not that intensive and needs to be performed very infrequently.
You need none of that if it's truly broadcast only. The network or receiving system can be configured to accommodate the device. A hardware button and screen on the device can be used to regenerate a key, although that is probably necessary.
The link provided is talking about government services, not really open source, or is there something I'm missing?
Are there any serious bills about consumer protection and data privacy at the federal level? I haven't seen any come up, but maybe they were in the background until after this election. Neither party has had a good track record on privacy so I'll be interested to see if any large scale privacy bill is suggested or if it will be more niche oriented for specific topics.
Very little changes with most elections. I don't see any reason this one will be different. The data center issues will mostly be handled at the state and local level, and so will vary accross the country. I haven't really heard federal level candidates campaigning on the topics you asked about, or anything technology related in general.
You're comparing mature products to products that are earlier in the lifestyle.
Take your Google search example. Maybe you're one of those youngsters, but Ask Jeeves, Yahoo, etc used to be substantial competitors. And there were some predecessors too.
More likely craft looking to reduce heat seeking missles or detection. Think better heat diffusion on helicopter or tank exhaust. Fixed installations would use thermal nets or space blankets.
I wonder if the Flock contracts allow for the removal of equipment? The camera installation is generally incidental to the services provided. The contract might allow for the permanent installation while cancelation just terminates services provided.
Instead of making LLMs create scripts behind the scenes for what you want to do, it is more efficient to have LLMs use apps for you. Apps still make sense to me.
No. Especially for local elections I believe that both the search results and any AI summarization run a risk of mistaken identity. There often aren't enough results for a person in a local race and can pick up people with a similar name.
Generally agree. However, I wonder if their intent was to draw attention to women's rights, or antagonize people regarding women's rights, in those nations. Porn was the wrong choice. Instead of pet photos, they could have shown women in positions of power and not wearing tradional clothes.
You have the highest probability of earning $500/mo with a second job. Yes, your hours and rate provide an earnings cap, but we're talking about $500, which is low for a whole month even at minimum wage on weekends. Begging for money may not be as low risk as you think. It's also low probability for $500/mo as a side hustle.
There's already rent control in the biggest areas. There's capital gains tax on rental property sold is almost 50% if held less than 20 years. Non-resident landlord tax is similarly high. French landlords still owe 30-45% on income, plus a 17% social charge.
It's not a surprise that if you tax something, the price usually goes up.
