gnaman··on Don't couple your Go code to GitHub
I don't know enough about git but shouldn't you be able to take all your git data (refs, blobs etc) and import it to your destination host and have this work without issues? It might be a lot of data sure but the infra is surely cheaper than multiple weeks of engineering effort
gnaman··on AX – Google’s Open Agentic Orchestrator
>I would expect Google to maintain this and other tooling around this for years to come.

gnaman··on Okta's NextJS-0auth troubles
thank you I will check you guys out
gnaman··on Okta's NextJS-0auth troubles
No provider has been able to match Auth0 actions unfortunately. Auth0 allows you to execute custom code at any point in the auth lifecycle and allow/deny based on that or enrich user attributes. Super useful when you have a legacy system that is hard to migrate away from. If anyone has any recommendations I'm all ears
gnaman··on Yann LeCun to depart Meta and launch AI startup focused on 'world models'

Iran has been crippled with sanctions limiting their ability to develop/buy any kind of fighter aircraft. Shooting from the air in Iran equals fighting a bot in an FPS game. They don't shoot back
gnaman··on Why We Migrated from Neon to PlanetScale
How is the pricing like? Unfortunately I can't go past 1500GB for storage on their pricing calculator. We have tons of data and I don't feel like scheduling a sales call just to estimate cost
gnaman··on Scaling our observability platform by embracing wide events and replacing OTel
How do engineers troubleshoot then? Our engineers would throw hands if they are asked not to parse through two months worth of log volume for a single issue.
gnaman··on US vs. Google amicus curiae brief of Y Combinator in support of plaintiffs [pdf]
that is not a google problem that is a big tech problem. people move where the money is and the money flows to google easily because ads is such a lucrative business. if you force the talent pool to move off google, meta or amazon will easily absorb them
gnaman··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (January 2025)
In B2B businesses, it is usually used for engineers that help integrate client systems to their own systems because when an enterprise is paying millions for a piece of software, they don't want to change their own systems. Work would typically involve writing scripts, interacting with customers understanding their needs and coming up with a bespoke solution that works for them.

gnaman··on Google Chrome has an API accesible only from *.google.com
No it does not. Firefox does by default. But then again, you would need the user to install your cert. Good luck with that
gnaman··on Nginx Unit: open-source, lightweight and versatile application runtime
Unfortunately, Caddy does not support and do not plan on supporting anything other than HTTP/HTTPS. These days I find myself going back to nginx only for TCP/UDP reverse proxy.

gnaman··on Show HN: I made CSS Pro, a re-imagined Devtools for web design
The product works offline. There should also be a perpetual license for the versions I've already paid for. Paying for products that are completely offline but still require subscription is ludicrous. Adobe justifies it by throwing in CC. Paying monthly for this makes no sense.
gnaman··on If you're so good, why aren't you making 600k at BigTech?
I've never heard anyone include the value of benefits in TC. TC is usually referred to as the cold cash you take home pre-tax. It can be stock, bonuses or salary. 100% liquid
gnaman··on Ask HN: Those making $0/month or less on side projects – Show and tell
Watchflix: https://watchflix.group

I made this extension to watch stuff together with my girlfriend during the pandemic. All the other extensions had a lot of flaws, didn't work with Prime and Disney+ Hotstar, so I decided to build one for my own use. I moved to the same city as my partner, so I don't have any use for it anymore. Few people still use this daily, so I'll probably let it run on my VPS as long as I can.

gnaman··on Cloudflare had a partial outage
Auth0 login is also not working. Their website is up though
gnaman··on Amazon more than doubles max base pay to $350k
>Also, why is Amazon still part of the FANG abbreviation when they have this culture across many of their organisations?

Because the term had nothing to do with work culture. The term was coined by Jim Cramer, the television host of CNBC's Mad Money, in 2013, who praised these companies for being “totally dominant in their markets”. The original definition still holds true.

gnaman··on Re: Moxie on Web3
> When they deplatform you, all they can do is remove their copy.

> They cant remove your nfts from the blockchain, they can delist you from the blockain and for the purposes of listing/curation, you can still see your nfts on other platforms.

The original article acknowledges this but also complaints that there is no easy way to access your NFTs once they are gone from OpenSea. All the major wallets are using OpenSea as a single source of truth and not pulling data directly from the chain. Defeats the point

gnaman··on Ask HN: Tools you have made for yourself?
