greyadept··on OpenClaw is a security nightmare dressed up as a daydream
Could you list some of these scenarios? I’m also neurodivergent and would love to automate parts of my life.
greyadept··on Microsoft Outlook app now showing paid spam/phishing ad's
It looks like a normal email but has the word “Ad” in small letters. When you click it, it opens a link, rather than rendering email content in another pane.

It’s a pretty tacky design, in my opinion, even if it was only serving “legitimate” ads.

greyadept··on Datacenters in space aren't going to work
I would be tempted to give the thumbs up to terrible answers like that.
greyadept··on Gmail can read your emails and attachments to train its AI, unless you opt out
I think I’m improving my security posture. For example, I’d hope that prompt injection attacks against Gemini AI will be less likely to scoop my data.
greyadept··on Peter Thiel's antichrist lectures reveal more about him than Armageddon
Specifically, G500 is the Strong’s Number for “antichristos”: https://www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/g500/kjv/tr/0-1/
greyadept··on AI data centers have an impossibly short runway to achieve profitability
> […] the industry’s actual AI revenue is closer to $20 billion annually […]

I’m shocked, is it really this small? I’ve had some trouble finding a source for this number.

greyadept··on Apple Demands EU Repeal the Digital Markets Act
I don’t like that Apple feels emboldened to demand that laws be repealed. I don’t recall if Apple has done this in the past but it’s a shift in tone that makes me uncomfortable.
greyadept··on Hidden risk in Notion 3.0 AI agents: Web search tool abuse for data exfiltration
Here’s the link to the article: https://www.codeintegrity.ai/blog/notion
greyadept··on The case against social media is stronger than you think
The author could have made the same points without using words like “polemicizing”, “putative”, and “epistemic”.
greyadept··on Apple pulls iPhone torrent app from AltStore PAL in Europe
This is what I’ve always struggled to explain to people, that any software’s security and privacy is only as good as its most recent update.
greyadept··on LLM advises to delete the Linux dynamic linker during a troubleshooting session
Found it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux4noobs/s/itWL4XukSB
greyadept··on Mistral reports on the environmental impact of LLMs
I would really like it if an LLM tool would show me the power consumption and environmental impact of each request I’ve submitted.
greyadept··on I read all of Cloudflare's Claude-generated commits
For me, improvement means no hallucination, but that only seems to have gotten worse and I'm interested to find out whether it's actually solvable at all.
greyadept··on At Amazon, some coders say their jobs have begun to resemble warehouse work
I’m concerned that it might not be easy to vibecode a security fix for a complex codebase, especially when the flaw was introduced by vibecoding.
greyadept··on Microsoft Confirms $1.50 Windows Security Update Hotpatch Fee Starts July 1
I would hate to be the Microsoft account manager having to explain this fee to a CIO. Especially when Linux kernel livepatch is free.
greyadept··on AirBorne: Wormable zero-click remote code execution (RCE) in AirPlay protocol
This behaviour always made me feel a bit suspicious about airplay but I reassured myself that Apple surely had it locked down. But these 17 CVEs show that my trust was misplaced.
greyadept··on I tried Windows gaming on a Mac
And despite all these flaws, the game will somehow get a 5 star “Runs great” rating.
greyadept··on Gemini 2.5 Flash
I wouldn’t be surprised if AI tools are frequently throttled in the backend to save on costs, resulting in this type of inconsistency.
greyadept··on Apple has revealed a Passwords app vulnerability that lasted for months
Yes, it is pretty serious. The video demo shows that HTTP calls for password reset links can be redirected to a malicious website: https://youtu.be/VUSB3FK1dKA?feature=shared
greyadept··on Microsoft begins turning off uBlock Origin and other extensions in Edge
Microsoft doesn't have to do this. The chromium-based Brave has committed to supporting uBlock Origin: https://x.com/brave/status/1725622768262128006
greyadept··on Gamblers behind half of abusive posts to tennis stars
You just have to look at Australia to see what happens when gambling becomes acceptable: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/article/2024/sep/...

Gambling ads everywhere, poker machines at venues in many suburban neighbourhoods, and of course huge financial losses for the gamblers.

greyadept··on Firefox nightly is running an experiment featuring a Fakespot feed on newtab
The top item in the "Gifts They'll Love" list is a beanie that scores a solid F on Fakespot: https://www.fakespot.com/product/etsfmoa-unisex-beanie-with-...
greyadept··on Do AI detectors work? Students face false cheating accusations
And another 9 flagged as partially AI.
greyadept··on Today is Ubuntu's 20th Anniversary
This discussion is a good place to start: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39750181
greyadept··on Do AI detectors work? Students face false cheating accusations
I'd be really interested to run AI detectors on essays from years before the ChatGPT era, just to see if anything gets flagged.
greyadept··on Today is Ubuntu's 20th Anniversary
I have to agree here. My experience with Canonical's job application process has significantly lowered my opinion of them.
greyadept··on Show HN: Preppr – a modern prepping/survivalist iOS app
This should be a once-off purchase instead of a subscription, in my opinion. If there’s one customer who’ll want an app to work when infrastructure goes down, it’s a prepper.
greyadept··on Hacker confirms access through infostealer infection [withdrawn]
The article now seems to have been deleted and redirects back to their homepage.
greyadept··on AI Overviews: About last week
To detect the faked screenshot results, the post asks us to run the queries for ourselves and see what happens. But where does that leave people outside the US who don't have access to AI Overviews?
greyadept··on Governments spying on Apple, Google users through push notifications
Does this mean governments can intercept and possibly interact with the “This was me” 2FA notifications that a few apps are using now?
