gtsnexp··on 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine: Deisseroth, Hegemann, Nagel
Miesenböck excluded!
gtsnexp··on Blindsight (Watts Novel)
I liked the ideas in Blindsight more than I liked the book. The writing is heavy-handed (trying to be gentle here), especially given how interesting the underlying questions were.
gtsnexp··on Elevated Errors for Multiple Models
Are we amidst some sort of 'attack on titan'?
gtsnexp··on Elevated Errors for Multiple Models
Zed is not able to access the API
gtsnexp··on Elevated Errors for Multiple Models
Open AI models just went down as well. What is going on?
gtsnexp··on Being ambitious and being a dad
You touch on the right point when you say “completely removing time-wasting activities.” Looking at a handful of biographies and trying to extract universal lessons from them is somewhat misguided/infantile.
gtsnexp··on Co-evolution of self-replication and function in a digital primordial soup
Thanks, what a cool reason to keep Z-80 alive!
gtsnexp··on Co-evolution of self-replication and function in a digital primordial soup
Why Z-80 assembly?
gtsnexp··on How to read more books
Good arguments against digital distraction, but not a good philosophy of reading.
gtsnexp··on Making RAM at Home [video]
Is it conceivable that some organic solvent could be synthesized that is, simultaneously harmless to water-based biological life, and capable of etching Silicon oxides?
gtsnexp··on Making RAM at Home [video]
yes acids capable of etching = danger :) aktschually
gtsnexp··on Making RAM at Home [video]
Honest question, is there a way to run the entire process acid-free?
gtsnexp··on France pulls last gold held in US
The "BdF’s underground vault in La Souterraine" sounds profoundly interesting.
gtsnexp··on Quartz crystals
Fantastic! Also found used on abebooks! Thank you
gtsnexp··on Quartz crystals
Thank you!
gtsnexp··on Quartz crystals
ok, could it be: Crystal Oscillator Design and Temperature Compensation :Marvin E. Frerking (1978). or perhaps Introduction to Quartz Crystal Unit Design : Virgil E. Bottom (1982)?
gtsnexp··on Quartz crystals
This awesome. Could you perhaps remember the title of the book you lost?
gtsnexp··on Show HN: Phage Explorer
The premise behind this vibe-coded website is excellent. It would have been great if a bit more effort had been invested in the visualization side and, if instead of using "AI-rendered" images, you'd have fetched scientifically accurate representations from papers and open repositories.
gtsnexp··on SCiZE's Classic Warez Collection
Those really were the good old days. My BBS ran out of my parents’ attic, with two phone lines and Renegade on the server (on a beefed-up PS/1). It was pure magic.
gtsnexp··on Show HN: Use Claude Code to Query 600 GB Indexes over Hacker News, ArXiv, etc.
Is the appeal of this tool its ability to identify semantic similarity?
gtsnexp··on Free Software Foundation receives historic private donations
Go FSF & GNU! Superb Christmas news!
gtsnexp··on Google's year in review: areas with research breakthroughs in 2025
Science magazine used to run a genuinely thought-provoking “Breakthrough of the Year.” Lately, it feels like it has narrowed to AI+AI+agents, and more AI.

I’m looking for an outlet that consistently highlights truly unexpected, high-impact scientific breakthroughs across fields.

Ask HN: Is there anything like that out there?

gtsnexp··on Why formalize mathematics – more than catching errors
Ask HN: What’s the single best resource for learning Lean (beyond the official docs)?
gtsnexp··on Radios, how do they work? (2024)
I did many years ago. Absolutely worth it.

gtsnexp··on Radios, how do they work? (2024)
This reminds me of a beautiful book written by Paul Nahin, 'The Science of Radio'.
gtsnexp··on Starcloud
p3 of their white paper https://starcloudinc.github.io/wp.pdf akshually...
gtsnexp··on Starcloud
The prelude of a Dyson Sphere!
gtsnexp··on Starcloud
Their white paper touches on the issue, which seems slightly hand-wavy without much detail on quantification. They could potentially take advantage of heat gradients from deep space and dissipate heat to explore the Seeback effect.
gtsnexp··on Subway station study reveals fungal communities
This looks serious! Particularly weird is the notion that multiple clades emerged nearly simultaneously on different continents. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11123812/?utm_sourc...

I couldn't find much on CNS symptoms...
