haasted··on Why Sonos' biggest fans turned against it
A Sonos Community forum thread where people are voicing their complaints: https://en.community.sonos.com/product%2Dupdates/the%2Dnew%2...

I do find the new app bafflingly lacking in even simple UX things. It's currently not possible to reorganize the play queue, or add songs to it.

On a more funny note, the app complains about lack of bluetooth access every time it starts. The primary case for bluetooth is to add units to the system, so it's not something that should be needed on a day-to-day basis.

haasted··on Sam Altman’s Worldcoin Token to Launch Monday
Well, there's one.com, which I believe is a fairly honest hosting provider.
haasted··on Sam Altman’s Worldcoin Token to Launch Monday
On top of that, there's the Worldcom scandal.

haasted··on Ask HN: Is the job market brutal? or is it just me?
FAANG is shorthand for Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google, not a specific tech stack.
haasted··on He who submits a resume has already lost
Couldn't it be a simple test of whether the applicant had read the posting thoroughly? It's a quick filter to remove anyone who didn't manage to fulfill this no-effort criteria in their application.

A lot of applicants simply send their resumes to any position that is vaguely relevant, without diving into the details of the role.

A little bit like Van Halen's "Brown M&M clause": https://effectiviology.com/brown-mms/

haasted··on Databricks counts being laid off as “red flag”
This is way too simplified.

May as well be shutdown of a department or project, where everyone gets off-boarded. Believe a lot of the recent GOOG reductions included very senior people who just happened to be on low-priority projects.

haasted··on A pharaoh with 100 children bungled his succession
The Economist playbook. Infuriating.

haasted··on SEC Charges Terraform and CEO Do Kwon with Defrauding Investors InCrypto Schemes
They also seem to be going after Terraform Labs, which is an active legal entity in South Korea (Edit: Actually appears to be Singapore now). Impeding their current work on (I kid you not!) Terra 2.0 may still prevent a future ponzi meltdown.
haasted··on Where is the moral outrage about Britain’s grooming gangs?
I would say that it qualifies quite clearly as off-topic as described here: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
haasted··on Amazon set to begin new round of layoffs affecting over 18,000 people
Good question. I googled, and it may be "unregretted attrition rate," or URA, which represents the percentage of employees that managers aren't sad to see leave the company — whether they part ways voluntarily or otherwise.

Expected the next sentence to state that you were now married, hence the "single-use".

haasted··on Show HN: I Made a Logo Marketplace
What files are in the purchase package? Does it have a vector version of the logo? 1024 x 1024 resolution doesn't sound like a lot for a number of purposes, eg print.
haasted··on Coins Stolen from Wallet
What does "farming forks" mean in this context? Or any context, for that matter.
haasted··on Password generator doesn't generate new password in the same session
I meant in addition to the issue being discussed.

> It's barely usable, and with this behavior it's just dangerous.

haasted··on Password generator doesn't generate new password in the same session
The actual challenge for browsers is to create a system that is usable by our grandmothers, though.
haasted··on Password generator doesn't generate new password in the same session
Why do you find the feature "barely usable"?
haasted··on Password generator doesn't generate new password in the same session
It generates the same password when on the same domain. There's probably a usability explanation for this behaviour, rather than lack of entropy.

Wish the responder would have spend some time elaborating on "why" rather than just stating that it's "by design".

Genius used a similar technique to check whether Google was scraping their lyrics. Apostrophes in selected song lyrics spelled out "red-handed" in morse code.

haasted··on You Can Forget About Crypto Now
Regulation is likely to have a similar impact in crypto.
haasted··on You Can Forget About Crypto Now
> “We’re so early,” goes one popular crypto mantra

I'm tired of this mantra.

To me, crypto is starting to look less like the early internet, and more like the file-sharing mania of the late 90s early 00s, ie Napster, Kazaa, Limewire etc.

A very likely outcome is that crypto will continue to be around, like some of the file sharing services, but using them will be more and more irrelevant and frowned upon by most people, who prefer the ease of the legal media streaming platforms.

haasted··on Everything I wish I had known about raising a seed round
Yeah, reading the sentence "Before starting the fundraising process, my first stop was to call up some VC friends of mine and ask them how to get things going" made me roll my eyes.

Rest of the article is interesting, though.

haasted··on I don’t believe in sprints
Shouldn't that lead to a team discussion about why the estimates differ so drastically? In most circumstances, the reasons would be inaccurate assessment of scope or complexity. Clearing up misconceptions like that can be a great boost for productivity.

"Oh, you can do it like THAT?! I was not aware. I'll take a shot at implementing the feature using that approach."
