$60/year for SmartThings API access -- why would anybody pay that? Is there any device accessible through SmartThings that doesn't have its own HomeAssistant integration?
That’s like saying he admitted to eating breakfast. Of course he did. SpaceX has consistently shut down offensive use of Starlink. That’s not tampering. That’s consistent enforcement of TOU.
“three people familiar with the command” — LOL. That article claims he shut them off entirely. Not even Ukraine alleged that. Only that they wouldn’t work if traveling faster than a certain velocity.. It’s all lies dude. Starshield isn’t even controlled by Space X like that. Moreover, to the degree, they want people to contract for their service, why would they even ever do that? None of it makes sense. Lies and more lies.
There is no evidence Musk did anything. To the contrary, he has flatly denied it and the structure of Starshield suggests he really couldn't. It's all conjecture.
Arguably, this has been the US’s strategy by constantly transitioning from one war to another for fifty years. Say what you will, but they’ve kept their war factories more busy than most.
And China could have replaced that funding just as rapidly. Or Britain or France. All they needed were the wire instructions. Yet I see no finger wagging their direction. Please stop pretending it’s the pace of defunding that offends you.
But he didn’t. Starshield is used for military operations and it is controlled by the US government, not Musk.[1] Starlink cannot be used for offensive military applications. Those that try are shut off entirely. If Ukraine is illegally using consumer Starlink in drones (which would not work particularly well), SpaceX wouldn’t even know which receivers to turn off. If they did, they’d turn them off entirely, not slow them as is alleged.
Wait, your point is that the Cybertruck is a pile of shit? That’s nuts. Many don’t like the styling (me included) but it’s genuinely a technological marvel, particularly at this price point. Four wheel steering, stainless exterior, breathtaking acceleration, FSD — everyone I know who owns one loves it.
LOL - and how many were we killing by not funding USAID twice as much? How many are you personally killing by not mortgaging your house and sending the money to African NGOs? The entire angle is so childish.
The Musk invective in HN is just wild to me. No, it wasn’t a Nazi salute (unless Biden, and Hillary and Obama are all Nazis too having made the same motion). No, he hasn’t cut Ukraine’s internet. All of these are lies, repeated over and over and over. He’s just a Republican accelerationist and unapologetic about his race. His companies create legitimately awesome products that millions use daily. Shocking that today that’s enough to breed such extraordinary hate from the left.
That's odd to me. I have SuperGrok with X Premium+. I use the crap out of Grok in my daily life, including to build a couple self-hosted apps as an amateur. I have a Grok bot monitor my email every 15 minutes and file things away for me. I have another bot that monitors for blood test results through Goodlabs. And I'm talking to it all the time on my 2 hour round-trip commute . . . and I never even get close to using my quota.
Yes, and imagine if we doubled the USAID funding! Or even quintupled it! Why, if we borrowed a(nother) trillion dollars, imagine how many lives we'd save!
My point is that it's all fake math. If we're killing people by not funding aid programs, then we're killing even more by not funding more. How much are you personally sending to Africa? How much more could you be sending? Imagine if you borrowed to do it? You can't do the math that way. While tragic, those people have no demand on our treasury any more than Vladimir Putin does. We may be less benevolent than we once were. We are also much further in debt than we once were -- to the point of threatening the Republic's viability. The US didn't kill a half million children any more than France, or Spain, or Great Britian, or China did by not sending the same money. It's all fake math.
Those numbers always crack me up. If you do the math that way (US funding cuts kill people), imagine how many people we’ve killed by not confiscating all the wealth of our nation and shipping it to Africa!
But there have been way higher atmospheric carbon dioxide levels historically, and those have largely coincided with plant and animal life climaxing. See the Jurassic.
I'd like to use it for legal work too. Microsoft makes great hay about its ability to sandbox CoPilot's work and not train on or share company resources ("Look for the green checkmark."). It's largely for that reason that we've rolled out Copilot to most of the white collar positions in the company. Do you happen to know whether xAI has similar functionality?
