my hunch is the path forward for intel on both the CPU and the GPU end is to release a series of consumer chipsets with a large number of PCIE 5.0 lanes, and keep iterating this. This would cannibalize some of the datacenter server side revenue, both that's a reboot... get the hackers raving about intel value for the money instead of EPYC. Or do a skunkworks ARM64 M1 like processor; there's a market for this as a datacenter part...

Using MySQL_fdw you can use your current MySQL schema with the above you can know when a client interacted directly with MySQL; all the while you add some nice jsonb and Plpgsql and transition out of MySQL incrementally. It’s probably a bad forum for this opinion, but I have a relative struggling with addiction and resulting mental issues ( resulting form substance abuse; he was highly functional and threw it all away), and because of this I made a 180 and think some form of prohibition for hard stuff is the only action that would help us. How to put that cat in the bag is anyone’s guess.

That is not necessarily true, check out the max C rate in of LFP. Still, LFP is the way to go for sure; longer overall life is a clear net positive, lower degradation and secondary market uses once the véhicule is junk without expensive and heavy recycling. I bet the cyber and truck were waiting on these patents to lapse.

IMHO, ditching Intel is a smart move for apple but a bad one for hackers. I’m sticking with older intel mbps until decent emulation scores are achieved with qemu, and probably further down the line. Hypervisors (say VBox proxmox combo) are so useful when you have to experiment/test with other platforms. Happy to see HDMI and escape key back tho, and it looks like we’ll even get a Target Display Mode equivalent! We’ll be back to my 2015 setup.:-)

My ideal M1 mbp would be this new one with 64gb ram but with a second cheap mid tier i5 with 16gb dedicated, and a rtx2070(cmon NVdia has Cuda —we need that) with 8gb, connected via internal tb3. I don’t care that it would be 700g heavier and a bit bigger or have less battery life when used to the max (idled chips should not eat a lot). It terms of bare costs thats maybe 1000$ more silicon, but it’s a world more of possibilities. What’s wrong with dedicated gpu offering— not for everyone but hackers love it and help the aura.

And —-please—- bring back a modular slot (m2?) for (additional?) storage! (Also good for hackers but not for Apple)

A SJ type is what TB would need to orient this pivot… to turn the problem around. Sourcing ideas on HN will only lead to “faster horses” suggestions. BTW did the TB interview after been lured by dark patterns on social media a while back when I was still using. Got the bloom filter from a hipster that was playing on his phone while I coded tictactoe in a langage I hadn’t used In years. Complete waste of time. Then they wanted to make profiles I hadn’t signed up for public, good thing they listened to the backlash. Just saying; it seems the management needs to use an hypothetical service like theirs but that works to find someone to help them on the angle for that pivot… a headhunter ?:-)

Same thinking here. Can’t bite the hand that feeds. The thing is you have to chose a camp these days, it seems. Either the corp or the devs. If choosing devs, i think the biz model would work if it would be a meritocratic limited partnership that actually owns the new TB. As such the interviewer has skin in the game. Maybe like an Order? Or a League? The mission statement is not a match right now.

It exists, but not everywhere... I think Kirin was close to being on par for a while, it might even have been dangerous? With regards to privacy ? Plus there must have been some serious PLA money involved... anyway now this ARM cpu cannot be fabbed by TMSC because of the sanctions.

I need to see to believe this. Thanks for this great article points out how it’s technically possible; but it would be dead simple to prove with a sample! Pray show one SMC MB with this extra chip and you are golden, if it’d a supply chain attack it was mass produced and a compromised unit is bound to show up on ebay!?

A targeted bad BIOS update is more plausible than a special chip hidden between layers of the motherboard. especially with the management BMC IPMI which is basically a second OS that acts as a KVM switch. But if this is all it is, this whole investigative thing is overblown to say the least. But why?

Great points. Another metric besides solid SDKs with support and community is power usage. In fact, some sort of benchmark of lowest state consumption, and total “MIPW” (million integer Ops per watt or something similar) would be valuable. BTW The new espressif s2 has some low power Sleep modes that should allow long running times on a battery( no BLE tho...:-/ ); I think that’s more of a hard design constraint that economics can’t change. I googled delete triplebyte account, I had to reset a password I did not know I had, then a few clicks, no dark patterns, really. It did take a few hours but I just got an email saying the account delete process is complete. Not sure how deleted it is, but hey I guess it's like everything that finds it's way on the internets... It's as deleted as enforceable.

Let's keep hacking a free internet, for fun, emancipation and progress. (all endeavours that can be for profit) Cheers

I just deleted my account. I was unaware that I even had one. I clicked on a little puzzle that popped in my FB feed back when I was still using.(FB)

This quiz was super easy, and I got pulled into doing an interview, just for fun, and a programming test in a language I had not used in 5 years. I did not do too well, but I did not care, it was for fun!

Well I did not expect that bad score to be recorded and become public!

This economy built around private/public information quiproquo has to be reigned in. I feel for the founder. But I still think there's something going on we need to stop before we get to the Stasi.

By limiting the window of validity the shop can prevent too many gift cards to be valid at once (limit over sell of time slots for a service business). There could even be an insurance provider side business to insure the gift card in case the mom and pop ends up belly up.
