herbst··on OccupySaaS
Not implying anything else than what I've said. Good if it works for you, nothing against using AI
herbst··on OccupySaaS
Fever dreams can feel very real
herbst··on Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy?
Maybe not buy the effectively most notoriously brand and push their sales
herbst··on Some Thing is Happening A note from the AI companies
We have calculators that work 99.99% of the time. I am not sure of it makes sense to settle for 90% just because we could.
herbst··on I went to Mexico to test-drive the cars Americans can’t buy
Tesla is pretty much non existent anymore in Switzerland, where it was really really huge no 5 years ago.
herbst··on I went to Mexico to test-drive the cars Americans can’t buy
I never bought a car newer than 15 years
herbst··on Discord will soon let anyone find public server messages through Google
It's still horrible software
herbst··on Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale
That's the actual data it contains houses and structures
herbst··on Local Wikipedia: Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you
It shows things that are easily half a day walking for me and only the most obvious things (which likely is due to Wikipedia itself)
herbst··on America has lost 200k of jobs in media, film and the arts. How much is AI?
Thanks to netflix, YouTube and everything else in that spectrum the world had a choice to NOT watch heavily americanized weirdly moralized movies and series and now prefers to not do so.

American media dying is a natural effect that was ongoing even before AI

You haven't tried Austrian TV then.

But honestly I think most localized TV experiences are awkward. Switzerland barely is tho, that's clean and boring in a way but rarely awkward.

herbst··on I'm creating my own OS system. Please rate this. There's a lot written in C
Was the post created by AI as well or are _we_ already this deep into psychosis?
herbst··on An ad-free Android TV
If you just run android anyway I got a very cheap xiaomi one that grants me basically all the permissions I needed so far via ADB
herbst··on Does Ruby on Rails still make sense?
On the other side I as the one checking the messy code my AI produces still prefer a highly readable code over something more "complicated" I would argue it's easier to catch bullshit even.
herbst··on The DNS Museum
Makes it even more important to put on a more unique design. Not fancy, just not the most default design any coding AI would create. I am sure many people instantly click away when they see that as well.
herbst··on The Photoshop clone that hurts GIMP
Yeah and that's absolutely fair. Really cool that we have different tastes and the world is colorful after all
herbst··on Putting Linux on my RTX Spark laptop because I don't have a Microsoft account
But who would want that?
herbst··on The Photoshop clone that hurts GIMP
I didn't ask you, nobody asked me either. But I do think the UI of Photoshop is horrible and gimp is very easy and clean product I like to use that hasn't drastically changed 3 times since I learned using it.
herbst··on The DNS Museum
It looks very very vibe coded. Maybe try a different design approach, the idea generally sounds interesting
herbst··on NY announces game ownership bill requiring ownership rather than licensing
Really curious to see how this will benefit AAA game makers and hurt indie Devs in near future. I have serious doubts that these billion dollar companies will just eat up such rules.
herbst··on Dam removals are bringing fish back across the northeastern United States
Some countries have healthy ground water I guess
herbst··on Dam removals are bringing fish back across the northeastern United States
Definitely the most American solution to this problem
herbst··on Gold is now the top U.S. export
So it's in fact a bigger business. Why do Americans always make up weird comparison methods when it looks bad for them?
herbst··on Gold is now the top U.S. export
Swiss here. People literally sold it to us and bring it here for safety. No stealing as far as I know.
herbst··on Gold is now the top U.S. export
To be fair we are in some kind of quiet cold war since nearly all of Europe has to work against and around trumps sanctions and build up independence ASAP which makes orange man even more angry.
herbst··on Gold is now the top U.S. export
What makes you think they are are worse financial positions? Propaganda around here makes it sound the US is very close to collapsing
herbst··on Tesla Roadster
How is that impressive as a demo? It would be impressive if it's actually a working, mass producible car, but in terms of an demo it's obviously something that is possible in today's world ..
herbst··on /dev/null: social network for developers
GitHub? You mean that complete, usually offliney, mess Microsoft dig a grave for? Not sure if that's a good idea in 2026
herbst··on Neckbeard – A DevOps/platform/SRE plugin for your agent
Can't tell if this is some kind of inside joke or actual 2026 tech talk
herbst··on How Amazon pushes up prices all across the Internet
I never had anything like this happen to me. Tracking shows where the package is coming from from day one. No way to pretend to sit anywhere else.

Returns are weird because usually I just get my money back and have the keep the wrong product. Had this happen easily over 100 times already.
