heyrhett··on Context is the bottleneck for coding agents now
If context is the bottleneck, MCP is dead.

MCP can use 10k tokens. Everything good happens in the first 100k tokens.

It's more context efficient to code a custom binary and prompt the LLM how to use the binary when needed.

heyrhett··on Nuclear fallout is showing up in U.S. honey, decades after bomb tests
It's still poison. Check msds. Just because there is already poison in the air, doesn't mean people can't put more poison in the air. Just because the poison doesn't kill everyone, doesn't mean it isn't poison.
heyrhett··on Nuclear fallout is showing up in U.S. honey, decades after bomb tests
Pretty sure they were just screwing around.
heyrhett··on Nuclear fallout is showing up in U.S. honey, decades after bomb tests
Morality has nothing to do with it. There can't possibly be a control variable. Would you call someone who goes around smashing things a "scientist"? What is the experiment?
heyrhett··on Nuclear fallout is showing up in U.S. honey, decades after bomb tests
It's wasn't a test. Someone just poisoned all the air.

It's not a test to say "hey I'm going to poison all the air, let's see what happens".

We shouldn't call this a "test" as if it was conducted by actual scientists doing actual experiments.

heyrhett··on Senet and Helium Announce LoRaWAN Network Integration Partnership
Please explain how one uses blockchain to solve a zooko.

> I have nothing against blockchain when used where it’s actually useful (I.e. for solving double-spend or zooko).

heyrhett··on Senet and Helium Announce LoRaWAN Network Integration Partnership
Helium literally never did an ICO.

So funny watching bitter losers at hackernews get everything about blockchain wrong and stay poor over the past 10 years.

- Throw in some buzzwords you don't really understand like "lightning" (does not apply to helium as it is a protocol based on bitcoin script)

- use the word "scam" because you don't own any and you didn't invest a few months ago when it was pennies.

- sprinkle in some unfounded FUD about decentralization and Sybil attacks because you're bitter you still don't own any

Helium is the fastest growing wireless network on the planet.

There are currently 190,000 hotspots over the globe, up from 20,000 6-months ago. https://explorer.helium.com/

...but but but against your better judgement you read some of the technical stuff... wooooowwwww

Call me when the Helium node count drops below 100,000 again and I'll congratulate you and thank you for warning everyone about this "scam" before it was too late.

heyrhett··on We may soon have city-spanning 900 MHz mesh networks
Helium network has been growing fast. Just crossed 20,000 hotspots and will probably reach 100,000 this year. It uses a crypto mining incentive so the network expands without any central corporation needing to spend a dime on infrastructure. People are already building cool IoT projects with it from adafruit kits.

heyrhett··on Reflecting on the founding, growth and maturing of Overleaf
Maybe it's a tangent, but Overleaf is hands down one of my favorite services.

It follows UX designer, Bret Victor's suggestion that creators need to be able to see what they're creating. It also has a ton of convenient features like forking, auto-saves, and inviting people to edit through private links without requiring that your collaborators sign up for an account on Overleaf.

LaTex creates beautiful documents, but it was too difficult for me to use before Overleaf. Also, I only use the free version of Overleaf.

Thank you for creating Overleaf!

heyrhett··on An Open Source, Self-Hosted Heroku
I looked into all the "Self-Hosted Heroku's" a few few months ago. One feature I found they all lacked is multitenancy, meaning that there is no security model in place to trust that you could host multiple pieces of code from different clients without them hacking each other.

I'm not talking about the deployment specifically, but rather isolating the code once it is deployed.

Am I missing something there?
