hieu··on Consuming the Bluesky firehose for less than $2.50/mo
Only two outcomes: either everyone can access it or only few big companies can. While not ideal, the former is much better.
hieu··on Ask HN: What is Hacker News's business model?
I don't think this was how it got started but you can think of HN as content marketing / recruiting channels for YC.
hieu··on Ask HN: Would you use this app to stay active?
Thanks for the insight. I should have mentioned that this is designed to work with your TV in your living room. You'd power walk in the same spot.
hieu··on Ask HN: Would you use this app to stay active?
Do you watch anything on TV?
hieu··on Magic Leap One Teardown
I think first impression is important but not a key indicator of long term success. The first iPhone unlocked the mobile web browsing use case, which is huge. People had always wanted to browse the web, just not on mobile. That alone makes the first iPhone a revolutionary product. Magic Leap One has to create new user behavior, which is much much harder.
hieu··on Show HN: Wesify – an easier way to sell anything
We don't know the final price. Wesify = We sell it for you. :-)
hieu··on Show HN: Wesify – an easier way to sell anything
Thanks! Can you share what you're working on?
hieu··on Show HN: To read books again, read one page every day
It works for me, too. The inspiration was from this TED talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQMbvJNRpLE.

The idea of marginal adjustment is both simple and powerful.

hieu··on Launch HN: EasyEmail (YC W18) – Gmail plug-in that helps compose emails quickly
I think the fact that it looks like toy is a plus to YC. https://blog.ycombinator.com/why-toys/

Great founders + (seemingly) toy/stupid/too hard ideas = how YC selects.

hieu··on Show HN: Taste the world's authentic food each day
After many nights watching food videos with an empty stomach. :-) It'd be great if you can give me feedback on: 1) Would you use it? If not then why not? 2) Any suggestions Thanks!
hieu··on Leaving the Nest
I think these people apply the same principle to many other decision making processes in their lives, not just picking clothes, which is very visible hence everyone talks about. I guess saving on clothes is small but many little things add up quickly.
hieu··on Angular 2 Beta released
They mentioned Adwords here, too. http://angularjs.blogspot.com/2015/11/highlights-from-angula...

I'd argue Adwords is one of the most important Google products.

hieu··on Show HN: pure client-side Connect Four AI with Web Workers, AngularJS, Firebase
My main goal in building this is to demonstrate that at this point (with HTML5 & V8) Javascript is not only good for UI but also for computationally intensive tasks like AI. Human vs human is also interesting, though.
hieu··on Show HN: pure client-side Connect Four AI with Web Workers, AngularJS, Firebase
Thanks! No, it doesn't play optimally even though this game has been solved. That's not really fun, either. What it does is to try to think like human and at the same time as deeply as possible. If you click on the number, it will show more stats. The computer lost more than 20 games up to this point.
hieu··on Show HN: pure client-side Connect Four AI with Web Workers, AngularJS, Firebase
Thanks! PVS (Principal Variation Search) is an improved version of AlphaBeta. How much improvement depends on the quality of your move ordering algorithm. http://chessprogramming.wikispaces.com/Principal+Variation+S...
hieu··on Show HN: Client-side Connect Four AI with Web Workers, AngularJS, Firebase
Thanks! One way to beat it is to play on mobile.
hieu··on Ask HN: Tell us about your side projects.
I've been working on http://www.hupland.com for almost a year. The idea is to help you to improve your Heads Up NL skill by playing, studying your games, and monitoring your ELO rating. I had this problem myself few years back when I was a graduate student struggling with financial issues. I was trying to earn some money on online poker sites but I couldn't afford learning by losing first. I'm pretty close to the MVP-version launch (only 1 feature: play with friend).

One thing I've learnt was that it is really easy to get distracted due to all context switches and conflict responsibilities. So I try my best to touch the code every day (even 1 line CSS change is good enough).

hieu··on A Visitor's Guide to Silicon Valley
What's so special about Vietnamese food in the Valley? I'd really like to know.
