hithre··on I'm switching my phone from Android to Linux
Thanksfully it is not all web. Though indeed there is no lack of native multiplaform solutions.

But app is not the hardest challenge compared to supporting all the hardware, camera, screens and the many core protocols

hithre··on University of Oxford Is Older Than the Aztec Empire and Other Facts of History (2013)
… And Mediterranean countries were using grenade since the 8th century.
hithre··on The Forgotten Castles of the Garamantes
Very strange article.

No word of the slavery that maintains the underground channel

A perfect example of where we are going if we consume non renewable resources. And yet the article isn’t cheap in praising their awareness

Repeating many times the same Roman perception.

hithre··on What Apple and Google are doing to push notifications
Depends. Blackberry 10 hub was strongly designed as a shared inbox instead of a loose system of notification like ios or android.

And it was awesome.

hithre··on What young workers are doing to AI-proof themselves
Yes. Though it won’t be a small class of rich, it will be a couple of overpowerful families only. I don’t think we have any examples to compare too.

Also, If you control the AI, but there is no middle class to consume its product, everyone is poor and controlling the AI doesn’t bring that much.

There is still some products much more important and stable: food, water and therefore land control.

hithre··on Ryugu asteroid samples contain all DNA and RNA building blocks
One theory is that the early plasma shortly after big bang had the right conditions to set the life building block chemistry.

Imagine the entire universe contains those buildings block.

hithre··on Living human brain cells play DOOM on a CL1 [video]
Surely it can only be fake. How can it be legal?

But seeing so many people from the hacker news community reacting to it as normal or exiting is troubling. This is obviously breaching the limits of ethics.

hithre··on Europe wants to end its dangerous reliance on US internet technology
How do they compete for actual tech then? Like Airbus.

- 35h a week, doesn’t prevent engineers from working more legally (most do) - with the age of AI code velocity is no more about time spent, but fresh brain - And much much more important, it is significantly more efficient to have an employee 10 year in one place than 2 years in 5 places. What could explain higher US turnover than europe, you think?

hithre··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2026?
Pro: After 10 year I feel that I am becoming a specialist of the software I work on rather than a software specialist. Needing to work in different domains where I am not the expert.

Other: Better time management and micro napping. After a working day sucking mind and kids energy, the brain stops working for anything but doom scrolling or TV.
