hooverd··on NYC Apartment Aquaponics
No one reading it /here/. People pitch this stuff all the time/
hooverd··on California AB 2047 makes 3D printers off-limits to students, educators, business
Why not focus on the actual gun problem, handguns, and not histrionics about ghost guns and SBRs?
hooverd··on There are no instances in ATProto
You need a relay unless you want to have all the same NxM scaling problems as Mastodon.
hooverd··on There are no instances in ATProto
You can have your own AppView and Firehose. They're just relatively expensive to run versus a PDS.
hooverd··on There are no instances in ATProto
Mostly because having a big centralized firehose relay is less decentralized than people want to admit.
hooverd··on If you are asking for human attention, demonstrate human effort
have you considered that you're just progressively lowering your threshold for discomfort?
hooverd··on YouTube to automatically label AI-generated videos
Like the levees surrounding a lagoon of pig shit in the South breaking and flooding the nearby community.
hooverd··on Leaving GitHub for Forgejo
It's less used but the @ is the atproto logo. I default to saying aye-tee instead of at though. It just sounds better.
hooverd··on Do you even need a database?
Serverless is cheap as hell as low volumes. Your tiny VPS can't scale to zero. If you're doing sustained traffic your tiny VPS might win though. The real value in Cloud is turning capex spend into opex spend. You don't have to wait weeks or months to requisition equipment.
hooverd··on I Won't Download Your App. The Web Version Is A-OK
sounds like somebody who's never had to park in multiple cities
hooverd··on The case for zero-error horizons in trustworthy LLMs
Is your issue with math in this example the tediousness of the operations or a conceptual lack of understanding of how to solve them?
hooverd··on My university uses prompt injection to catch cheaters
Nobody cares about your college book report. It's there to prove, or teach you, that you can do the extremely basic task of synthesizing information. Same with math without a calculator. You should have a mental model of basic math. It helps avoid shooting your foot off later. You might never have to do math from first principles again, but you should get over the hump once.
hooverd··on The 'paperwork flood': How I drowned a bureaucrat before dinner
Hopefully you feel about the same way about every bit of vitriol levied towards tech workers.
hooverd··on The 'paperwork flood': How I drowned a bureaucrat before dinner
If you're trying to effect actual change that seems like a great way to harden the people you need to be influencing against you.
hooverd··on The 'paperwork flood': How I drowned a bureaucrat before dinner
Indeed, if you're nice they might take your side. If you're an asshole, that's a lot less likely.
hooverd··on The 'paperwork flood': How I drowned a bureaucrat before dinner
Maybe, you'd be absolutely rolled by fraudsters in the opposite case.
hooverd··on We rewrote JSONata with AI in a day, saved $500k/year
Darn, I'd wished they improved one of the existing Go or Rust implementations.
hooverd··on Anthropic takes legal action against OpenCode
The AI companies can spare their whining about contempt of business model. They're selling a service.
hooverd··on European Commission Trials Matrix to Replace Teams
In defense of SAP, their product really is built to be configurable for every use case under the sun.
hooverd··on Claude Code: connect to a local model when your quota runs out
I don't think Dario is gonna approve of this one.
hooverd··on Ask HN: Is it still worth pursuing a software startup?
Plus, how many of these existing apps were just databases wired up in different ways?
hooverd··on AI generated music barred from Bandcamp
having a shared reality is good actually
hooverd··on The next two years of software engineering
an unexplored wilderness that you pour casino chips into (unless you're doing local model stuff yea yea)
hooverd··on Code is cheap now, but software isn't
eh, rather, a carpenter knows to swing a hammer in a pinch, doing say framing, even if they mostly use a nailgun.
hooverd··on How to code Claude Code in 200 lines of code
Woah now, did you get Anthropic's permission to use Claude outside of Claude Code?
hooverd··on Anthropic blocks third-party use of Claude Code subscriptions
Cynically, I think they're in a Gmail 2008 era right now.
hooverd··on Web development is fun again
don't be an asshole
hooverd··on Neurodivergent Brains Build Better Systems (2025)
Plus, lots of neurodivergent people are acutely unaware of their own shortcomings and blame everything on those awful neurotypicals.
hooverd··on 2025: The Year in LLMs
I do think for the solution of say non-consensual pornography the only solution is incredible violence against people making it.
