hoppp··on Proton goes all in on using AI
Companies need somebody to yell at when hackers get in.
hoppp··on Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance
Stablecoins are fiat on-chain and they are legal so they need to have the freezing mechanism in the smart contract otherwise they could go to jail.

So crypto + legal company means not really following bitcoin ideology anymore

hoppp··on Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance
I don't think so. Both happened the same time but unrelated. Just a good haul for hackers end of the year.
hoppp··on Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance
I think that's a different hack. Polymarket mostly.
hoppp··on Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance
Happy Halloween to the hackers.

I bet they are celebrating.

Congratulations. Nice haul.

hoppp··on NetBSD adds a new text editor called atto
How do you exit atto? Gotta make it hard:)
hoppp··on noalloc: Tooling and libraries to enforce zero heap allocations in Golang
I agree. If the use-case requires no GC then Rust or Zig or C++ is a better fit.

I don't see much point in choosing a language just to bypass it's features.

hoppp··on Are stochastic parrots alive?
Humans are great at copying each other via implicit mechanism and we have a mirror neuron system that predictively mirrors other humans internal processes.

We are stochastic parrots. Most humans don't ever create anything unique and just mirror.

hoppp··on Are stochastic parrots alive?
To be alive they need autonomy to self-replicate.

When we create an AI that controls it's own manufacturing and can self-replicate then we can talk about inorganic life.

hoppp··on Why are good developers so wary of agentic development?
Its exactly what it is, a tool. Use it correctly it works fine but if you are not careful you can shoot yourself in the foot.
hoppp··on Tell HN: Claude Code adds your email to the prompt, the LLM sends it to websites
Anthropic is at fault here. We should be able to configure these. The LLM has no right to know my email address, only their internal system needs it.
hoppp··on AlpineBSD
AI, since it "taints" code according to their website.
hoppp··on AI execs may be too out of touch to build for the general public
I agree with the points, maybe in my example I would not have money to hire people and used to write code myself, so I replaced myself with claude and not an employee. So the human to replace was myself and interaction was not lost as I still talk to myself :p
hoppp··on AI execs may be too out of touch to build for the general public
These are the use-cases of AI that I don't like that much.
hoppp··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
Its gonna turn into an anti-vaxxer thing when they realize vaccines could be created with generative AI. It will be in the pipeline
hoppp··on AlpineBSD
Tribalism ↔ Pragmatism: prioritising group loyalty and identity versus prioritising practical outcomes and what works.

I think saying "all code that was touched by an LLM is tainted" is not pragmatic.

hoppp··on AlpineBSD
I think rational tool use doesn't have to be tribalist. Right tool for the right job.

It becomes tribalism when there is an enemy. Us and them, mac vs pc, AI vs Humans, the left vs the right.

hoppp··on AlpineBSD
The whole "as little AI code as possible" is tribalism.

I want software that is brilliant and well audited, no matter who or what produced it.

No AI guarantees nothing, especially if it's a C codebase like netbsd, why not also join the rust tribe then?

hoppp··on Police Are Pulling People over Because AI Deems Their Driving "Suspicious"
These things always existed.

"AI said so"

"The bible said so"

"The fuhrer said so"

People following things without critical thinking or the ability to question reality.

hoppp··on Police Are Pulling People over Because AI Deems Their Driving "Suspicious"
They can blame the AI but it's people pulling over other people.

The issue is always people.

hoppp··on Why Gopher in 2026?
Highly genetic and was beneficial for early human explorers. It might have driven the exploration to leave Africa, which was a theory since the 90's

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10878810

hoppp··on Why Gopher in 2026?
I think if your working memory is emptied more often you are more likely to spot a predator, like the doorway effect but happens even when staying put.
hoppp··on Why Gopher in 2026?
One theory, based on neurodivergence in chimps, is the difference in attention and sensory processing evolved because they are able to spot a predator much faster. They stay on the outskirts of society and warn the others.

I think of it like the doorway effect, the working memory is dumped more often to have more resources for processing sudden events.

hoppp··on Why Gopher in 2026?
It's because ADHD is a natural human condition, but the modern world is not accomodating. It has a very important place in human history and humans owe a lot to people with ADHD. We would be not here without ADHD today.

People like you were the explorers, defenders and scouts, lookouts of modern primitive tribes.

The currently over reproduced neurotype, the empathizers-socializers are general workers. But people with neurodivergence specialize in ways that can't be reproduced by typical humans.

hoppp··on Why Gopher in 2026?
ADHD is not because social media, it's as ancient as humanity. ADHD is genetic and heritable. Do not confuse natural selected features with the effects of modern technology.
hoppp··on TornadoVM 7 Enables GPU-Native Workloads from Java Applications
AbstractAiInfrastructureComponentInitializationAndConfigurationFactory
hoppp··on TornadoVM 7 Enables GPU-Native Workloads from Java Applications
How is ML using java?

My impression was that people mainly use python.

Pros and cons?

hoppp··on JetBrains Thinkrail
This is true. I think generated code really shines as internal tooling and not something shared.
hoppp··on JetBrains Thinkrail
It really depends on the human input. Prompt the LLM to give a short but dense explanation.
hoppp··on JetBrains Thinkrail
I am fine with AI readme as long as it has what I need.
