hughjd··on Amazon loses bid to overturn historic union win on Staten Island warehouse
Do you have a link or something to google at all? I tried variations of 'us vs europe union differences' but not getting anything relevant.
hughjd··on Show HN: A color picker for named web colors
This is great! For those who like this, you may also like https://enes.in/sorted-colors which also does the named web colours.
hughjd··on Paving the on-ramp to Java
Doesn't Groovy (https://groovy-lang.org) achieve much of this? I remember being taught with it at university for some time before they introduced Java. With Groovy you don't need the class or main method, and can have a program which is just `println "Hello world!"`.
hughjd··on Ask HN: What is that blog platform with runnable/editable code chunks?
That's the one! I should have been googling some combination of 'notebook' and 'magic' it seems. Thanks for your help :)
hughjd··on Show HN: Mergify – An automation platform for GitHub pull requests
This looks very nice! I have used Bitbucket and GitLab before which have merge blockers (e.g. user cannot manually merge if tests are failing), but this a welcome next level.

I couldn't find on the website - does the tool support a choice of merge types such as Classic Merge Commit, Squash and Fast Forward Rebase?

hughjd··on A story about Upwork and freelancers
Is this Upwork trying to avoid falling afoul of tax legislation similar to IR35 in the UK? As far as I understand, it tries to crack down on people like OP who (in the view of the tax authorities) are essentially employees at a company but do the work freelance so both they and the company benefit from various tax perks.

hughjd··on Ask HN: Is gitlab.com down for you right now?
Gitlab is fine for me now in the UK... but it is not too uncommon for it to go down for a short time
