Who would've thought post-hand-wringing-over-poor-300k-salary-tech-workers realizing their disposability that we would have another event reminding HN just how different the rules are for capital owners than the rest of us.

Why is that tech workers, many of whom easily have earned over a million dollars in salary over the past few years can't be told to "live within their means"?

Why is it that the same VCs that rallied against student debt relief think their poorly run bank should be bailed out?

I know why, this thread is chalk full of it. "We were smart, we were playing the game with the advantage we were told made us untouchable, we can't fathom gasp 'negative consequences' whatever those are".

I'm sick of it and thankful to see people seeing through this a bit more than usual. Downvoting isnt going to change a damn thing, click your hearts out and enjoy the dissonance. See ya in the next too-big-to-fail-as-a-result-of-unchecked-corporate-greed thread. lmao

It's so wildly awesome to deal with data natively in nushell than donhacky shit with jq and strings... In bash. No thanks.

It's not batshit infuriating to use?

Idk, I was an OG PowerShell, I'd take nushells approach every day of the week.

Yes, daily driving it (it's my default shell in zellij), and have ported my use-every-5-mins scripts to it.

It's VERY refreshing, but I still have issues with it not short-circuiting when an error is thrown in a loop... Which I suspect will get fixed in time...

huhneverthot··on Ask HN: How is the SVB situation affecting your startup?
Oh man I actually laughed out loud at this. I don't think your HN comment is going to do anything in the face of the classic prisoner's dilemma.
huhneverthot··on Flux Keyboard
Look up "keyball" custom mech keyboards.

If I could buy a prebuilt, I think it'd be my endgame.

Uh, I didn't get an email from Gandi...

I gotta say, I don't believe most people here. When it comes right down to it, learning the habit of plugging your yubikey in when you sit down, is much easier than switching git hosting providers and all associated migrations that might not even ... Be possible outside the GitHub ecosystem.

I say this as someone with intentions to leave GitHub, but that has more to do with them ruining nixpkgs contribution history by MAKING ENTIRE ISSUES AND PULL REQUESTS UNVIEWABLE because a single banned user participated in them years ago. Love you GitHub, brilliant.

huhneverthot··on Raising the bar for software security: GitHub 2FA begins March 13
Allowing account access with 2fa code alone is not 2fa, so I guess this feels like a made-up concern.

They sold them for $5 for Ignite. I'm SURE you can get them very cheap if you're buying them in any sort of bulk at all.
huhneverthot··on Ask HN: How do you start over with 2FA after losing your phone?
That article is hot garbage, predictably since the app is purpose built to not allow proper backups/migrations.

"Go back in time and save the raw secrets" might as well be a certain-fingered emoji to basically literally everyone.

At this point, the only hope is getting webauthn everywhere and train people to always enroll a primary and backup token.

huhneverthot··on Apple to limit USB-C charging and data speeds for cables without MFI: Leak
Huh, 14 comments in and no one telling me why this is actually good for me yet. Is the mirage finally wearing off?
huhneverthot··on Ask HN: How do you start over with 2FA after losing your phone?
Pretty much every single one of these threads is about half full of people demanding more, larger foot-guns with which to shoot themselves because they just can't be bothered (just assure you'll hear when they're eventually locked out, etc).
huhneverthot··on Ask HN: How do you start over with 2FA after losing your phone?
Android: long press power, tap lockdown. Your entire point is now just inaccurate. I do this when going through security checkpoints, if I were to get pulled over, and Android auto trihgers it under abnormal conditions upon which I have a decently long device-specific password.

You know the big black bold huge warning you clicked through to active 2fa? The one that told you you really really needed to save backup codes? The one that said you will lose your account without said backup codes?

You do have those backup codes, right?

Backups, password managers, now 2fa backups, all things that people just cannot seem to care about until it's too late
