hummel··on Show HN: P34 – tabular profit prediction without the optimism bias
As a public proof of P34, this is bullshit. The headline claim rests on missing code, hidden notebook state, inconsistent published numbers, and no reproducible environment.

hummel··on AST-1 Neurosymbolic Architecture
We're thrilled to announce the launch of AST-1, an innovative language model that uses an advanced attention mechanism to produce coherent and contextually relevant text while efficiently handling computational and memory requirements.

The key to AST-1's success is its novel RNN attention mechanism. Unlike traditional methods, RNN attention lets the model dynamically focus on different parts of the input sequence, resulting in more natural-sounding text and the ability to handle long input sequences.

AST-1's architecture is carefully designed for optimal performance and the model parameters are fine-tuned for efficiency and accuracy. Plus, its training process enables it to handle a range of natural language tasks, from sentiment analysis to machine translation.

We believe that AST-1 represents a significant milestone in language model development and invite you to try it out for yourself. Discover the power of AST-1 today and let us know your thoughts!

hummel··on Use Pixar's story formula to win over investors
> In university (which I paid for myself through internships + loans)

So you got a loan that your family backed and you were able to work as an intern in various places. You also went to a prestigious university. You were a privileged 1% and after entering YC you are part of the 0.1%. This would not have happened if you had been born in Namibia.

My complaint is that by using the leverage of the 0.1% you try to convince the 99,9% that: if you work, think and play hard you can achive your dreams. This is no longer the case. Maybe it was like that 10 or 15 or 35 years ago. Today the wealth difference and inequality is abysmal because of the network effects. So basically you don't need to be good or bad business, you just leverage your network and keep going.

PS: I'm also a 1%

hummel··on Use Pixar's story formula to win over investors
> I guarantee you if you build a product w/ a high growth rate or engagement, VC will be kicking down your door to give you money.

Why I need a VC then? Did you understand why the Venture Capital industry was created in the first place on the United States in the 60's? If I have a working product with high rate and cashflow, I just use the private debt markets and keep going and expanding. We are not talking about that.

hummel··on Use Pixar's story formula to win over investors
100% guaranteed success in fundraising. You only need one of these options:

- Be a friend or acquaintance of the fund manager.

- Be the child of an important client of the investment bank.

- Study at a prestigious university together with other children of the bank's clients

- You have sold your previous business or already own a very successful one.

It is a fallacy to think that your pitch will be of any use in 2021. It is 90% personal relationships, 5% narrative and 5% luck. Not even the business plan is relevant anymore (WeWork and many others)

hummel··on Show HN: Ninjabot – A fast cryptocurrency bot implemented in Go
I'm the CTO of a crypto hedge fund since 2014. If you are newb and want to start working with bots/algos/signals; I must advice you that when I started on early 2014, it was already late for deploying HFT. Also you compete against the frontrunning happening inside the exchanges, so traditional finance tools don't translate to crypto very well. Took me between 4-6 years to refine a valid strategy that is able to move thousands of coins at the same time and beat the crypto market on any condition. This is probably one of the hardest thing I ever did. So if you expect to make money with open source, algos, strategies, you still very far from the objective.
hummel··on Hackers break into thousands of security cameras, exposing Tesla, jail, hospital
Note to HN. I know personally the attackers, and they send me proof of the attack before making it public. They are just two south america teens having fun cause they can't leave home. They were doing just for the lolz, there is no complex supply chain attack or state-actors involved. Just two kids pwning billions of VC money.

Paul actively cooperates with the US justice and secret services. It is likely that his sentence will eventually be reduced.
hummel··on Villarejo: The rise and fall of the Spanish state’s secret fixer
Because it is a case of corruption that is quite irrelevant at the Spanish level, much less at the European level and totally irrelevant at the global level. Villarejo is an ex-policeman who is blackmailing public figures to avoid a long prison sentence for corruption and bribe. He is a very basic blackmailer and the article at BBC is some PR to give some air to his judicial defence. It is certainly not a relevant/interesting/cultural article for HN.
