hungryhobo··on Japan develops a method to recover up to 90% of lithium from used EV batteries
worth noting this isn't ground breaking or anything, the status quo for lithium recovery from battery recycling in many countries is already > 90%
hungryhobo··on A Chinese official’s use of ChatGPT revealed an intimidation operation
Nah just the lunatic Adrian Zenz. Feel free to ignore the fact Muslim countries actually visited xinjiang and agreed there was no concentration camps. Like believe the crap you want, but Uighur language is literally on display in every road sign, every metro station, every shop. Xinjiang has the highest density of mosques in the world. College admissions offer incentives to people of Uighur origin. Ppl can just go to xinjiang and see it for themselves

hungryhobo··on A Chinese official’s use of ChatGPT revealed an intimidation operation
i don't doubt your experience, but just know it might be skewed and not representative of everyone's opinions

the sense i get from my chinese friends are that the CCP is an annoying parent but they understand the challenges both domestic and international and largely agree with the compromises

hungryhobo··on TikTok users can't upload anti-ICE videos. The company blames tech issues

I mean every country has their epstein. western media likes to pick the chinese ones cause they make a good china bad story. Hundreds of chinese like myself travel from and to china each year, I'm surprised it's hard for you to imagine regular chinese people can enjoy life in china.

They already do, see facebook/tik tok
hungryhobo··on Tell HN: Coinbase now requires physical address of recipient in crypto transfers
what value are you talking about? currency themselves have no inherent value and are only backed by the confidence that people have of the issuer.

hungryhobo··on Germany paying $5.5B for Intel fab
i disagree, there's absolute nothing preventing an ordinary Chinese from taking a exam and become someone that actually has influence over domestic policies. Elections aren't the only ways a legitimate government can be formed.
hungryhobo··on New Chinese GPU Maker Moore Threads Unveils the MTT S60 GPU
are you really gonna pin Taliban on the chinese? I'm sorry but your version of history isn't actually accurate either.
hungryhobo··on New Chinese GPU Maker Moore Threads Unveils the MTT S60 GPU

hungryhobo··on Please don't ask founders existential questions
As a founder, if you don't even have the mental maturity to deal with criticism then start up is probably not for you
hungryhobo··on Tell HN: China Is Entering Lockdown
it's always kinda funny how misinformed people are about china. if you actually think china has the tech to force 1.4 billion people to share the same thoughts then a. china has already won tech war, or b. you are just brainwashed.
hungryhobo··on Tell HN: China Is Entering Lockdown
that's very different than the story my relatives in china told me. While in quarantine, government sets up dedicated teams of delivery personnel to deliver daily necessities. While the lock down is strict, you are by no means in any danger.
hungryhobo··on Doubling Down on Double Standards
or maybe there is an advantage to not cover your own invasions as it makes claiming moral high ground more difficult.

hungryhobo··on Colors in movies and TV: What happened to them?
probably not another fad, it jus stems from color theory, which have been incorporated in film one way or another for a really long time. Even before these digital color grading took place, scenes in movies are carefully planned out, from set to costumes to lighting, so they fit within a certain range in the color space such it's pleasant for viewers.

The orange and teal look is just a very widely used combination that utilizes complementary colors. Even though it's been used a lot i personally still find it quite appealing.

hungryhobo··on Video of Tesla on Autopilot Crashing into Stopped Truck at 75mph
One thing we need to remember is we are seeing the scene from a recorded video.

Our eyes have much better dynamic range so a person would have much better grasp on what the road is like behind the wheels than what they can see from the recorded video.

hungryhobo··on Facebook is bad at moderating in English. In Arabic, it’s a disaster
