hypnotist··on Dependency management fatigue, or why I forever ditched React for Go+Htmx+Templ
I feel like. there should be a framework based on go where you just compile the and ship one binary to a server.
hypnotist··on Show HN: Asterogue, my sci-fi roguelike, is now playable on the web
looks awesome. But I do not vibe too much with turn based games. Anything similar but "realtime" ?
hypnotist··on Brazil's X ban is sending lots of people to Bluesky
I am surprised no one mentioned nostr.

https://nostr.com/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostr

supposedly more distributed and censorship resistant than bsky. https://thenewstack.io/bluesky-vs-nostr-which-should-develop...

hypnotist··on Okay, I Like WezTerm
I use tmux daily. tried to like wezterm but issues with clipboard and resizing made look for another option. Very happy with Tilix now. https://gnunn1.github.io/tilix-web/

maybe less fancy/modern but absolutely rock solid every time.

environment: fedora/wayland/gnome

just throwing this out if anyone wants to test an alternative it out.

hypnotist··on Cuba’s Bitcoin Revolution
well, he is actually Cuban who lives in US and follows the situation. I am willing to believe his take much more than random dudes from CA.

Here's some of his writings on Cuba. https://www.thepullrequest.com/p/the-cuban-tank-man-will-be-...

hypnotist··on A from-scratch tour of Bitcoin in Python
El Salvador not Colombia
hypnotist··on El Salvador makes Bitcoin legal tender
well, Linux is hugely successful open source project. Virtually everyone is "touched" by it directly or indirectly. It is one of core components of internet infrastructure. Bitcoin could be that.

(of course I am aware that desktop/direct usage is really small)

hypnotist··on El Salvador makes Bitcoin legal tender
off topic but I am really wondering ... How a story on top of HN (number 1) suddenly drops to number 19 in matter of minutes ?

Algo glitch ? Penalty for mentioning Bitcoin much ?

hypnotist··on El Salvador makes Bitcoin legal tender
I am just surprised how much negativity is in HN towards Bitcoin. This is the first case of decentralised open source tech winning against big established powers - governments/faceamagoos. We should be celebrating this. I sure hope that Bitcoin is going to be Linux of money/finance.

Lightning might not be at the scale it needs to be now but it will improve greatly. maybe it is good enough already? Like Ruby on Rails. People keep talking about it being slow while massive web applications are being built with and billions of dollars being processed.

hypnotist··on Nomad v1.0 release – workload orchestration
It is an opportunity for someone/something to take docker swarm place since complexity of Kubernetes might scare lots of people
hypnotist··on Pointers from Portugal on Addiction and the Drug War
starting ISP - that is very cool! What about Portuguese language ? do you need to able to speak to be accepted there ?
hypnotist··on Ask HN: How to learn sales?
This process is very nicely defined in Predictable Revenue by Aaron Ross & Marylou Tyler.
hypnotist··on Factorio 1.0
At least Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke plays Factorio, Starcraft etc.
hypnotist··on Advancing our approach to digital currency
It seems that Visa is having FOMO moment here. (at least in my opinion)

They do not want to be left out in case all those nerds start scaling Bitcoin or any other altcoin to something that can be used globally and legally.

hypnotist··on Revolut staff claim they’ve been told to quit their jobs or be fired
it is just sad to see the same tactics(people being bullied into "mutual agreement") used now as in 90s in Eastern Europe.

that is good enough reason to not use their product at all.

I am sure there is plenty of capable competitors.

hypnotist··on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS’ snap obsession has snapped me off of it
Can anyone recommend good rpm based distro for desktop(business env)?
hypnotist··on Mongolia to restore traditional alphabet
>> nearly six million in Inner Mongolia, a Chinese region who use the traditional script is used.

seems it is used a lot already - they are just making it a standard.

hypnotist··on IMF sees pandemic causing global recession in 2020; recovery in 2021
are there any results/tests that show that one becomes immune after covid-19?
hypnotist··on Quarantine Bread
Instant yeast, 1/12th teaspoon <-- how does one measure that kind of thing ? wouldn't it be easier and more accurate to use grams ?
hypnotist··on Not being an asshole will make you more money
you cannot AB test that.
hypnotist··on Ask HN: Best way to grow an arts startup?
Find and talk to people who have(done) what you want.

HN is not the best place to find that sort of thing.

I would research other entertainment companies/individuals similar to the team you working with.

hypnotist··on Ask HN: What IT certifications should I get for my degree?
Everybody(in tech) knows that most of the time certifications are worthless in terms of real technical skill... that being said - it gets you through the door. you will get more interviews if you have something.

Since you mentioned Networking and Security and let's assume you want to work in this field. - I would take Cisco CCNA/CCNP etc.

Disclaimer: it's been a while since I looked into them so do some research which ones are relevant to you.

hypnotist··on Ask HN: What is your advice for a technical founder learning sales?
2 books: 1. Spin selling by Neil Rackham 2. Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes

and of course ... taking action - making those calls and scheduling meetings.

hypnotist··on To become a software consultant, avoid letting clients pay you for code (2017)
These companies/people are paid not for their general purpose skills/consulting. They are paid for trust/brand. """No one got fired for choosing McKinsey/BCG/Deloitte/IBM/MS etc"""
hypnotist··on The Cosmetic Class
> Its business, after all, is driven by engagement, and because engagement is well-understood to be eroded by the presence of nuance and depth — two traits that are essential for a complete understanding of anything — Instagram promotes neither.

This must be the best description of fb/insta mechanics.

hypnotist··on DDOS on Namecheap Free DNS and Default DNS V2
Thanks! I just did the switch and the website was up in few minutes.
