I used to solve hardcore problems, now I just talk to Claude and try to dodge layoffs left and right.

iExploder··on Ask HN: How to explain to execs why gen AI hasn't 10x'd feature dev
you would be wise to in fact do the exact opposite. claim it does more than 10x. ask to spearhead the AI transformation of your company. promise huge cost savings. make your bag. and who knows, maybe you'll actually deliver on those promises as a side effect. and what if not? remember, the senior eng team is there as a convenient scapegoat ...
iExploder··on Ask HN: Are you unable to find employment?
Hiring a lot in Poland and from what I know paying peanuts compared to US salaries, but still above the market rate in Europe, mainly because market rate for engineers in EU is nothing to write home about.

It sucks for you guys, but its just the new reality. Engineering is dead end career unless you are top 10%, move on to management, or money doesnt play a role, but at that point you might as well go duck farming or become a carpenter.

iExploder··on Ask HN: C Language Successors
Zig is nice, but subjectively I find some of the syntax is a bit weird, like ?'s !'s and the various array notations. I guess it just takes some time to get used to.
iExploder··on AudioFlux: A C/C++ library for audio and music analysis
mean you are using C++ but only the features that dont suck, so probably 10% of the language, rest is plain C
iExploder··on Ask HN: Memory leaks in C/C++ Application debugger tool?
this is such a generic statement... as long as you de-allocate on exit it wont show up as leak, that doesnt mean the app is not continuously allocating more memory, whether as bug or for a valid reason is up to you to find out...

you can try https://gperftools.github.io/gperftools/heapprofile.html setup HEAP_PROFILE_TIME_INTERVAL and look at the reports to see which code lines keep allocating memory...

iExploder··on Ask HN: What business would you start in 2025?
2026: how to hire the right people to fix the mess of a code you have accumulated with AI.

this guy knows what hes doing, and he fcks too!

iExploder··on Ask HN: What business would you start in 2025?
FOSS patent troll company. Agents would get employed by random companies that use linux/oss. Scan the licenses company uses, report back to HQ. First email would be from marketing "we can fix your issues", in case no or negative response, email from lawyers would follow.
iExploder··on Ask HN: How can I learn to "talk a lot and say nothing"?
for example when explaining technical topics: start by establishing common understanding of a problem boiled down to a level all engaged in conversation can understand.

add by building on the established foundation, go into more technical detail, make sure people can follow by repeating the concepts from different angles, pause and ask questions to gauge whether people are still following your chain of thought,

and the end of your monologue give space for follow up questions, repeat what you have already said if necessary. assure everybody that rewriting the codebase is only 1 story point and you and your team are working hard on it as a priority. ensure everyone you'll keep then in a loop and schedule another meeting two weeks from now where you will repeat exactly what you have said with more assurances. rinse and repeat.

iExploder··on Ask HN: What's Wrong with IRC?
> Being able to search in the past for a half-remembered conversation sounds great until you have idiotic, asinine corporate data retention policies that require anything beyond 90 days to be deleted anyway, for some bullshit reason like being open to litigation or whatever and that being subject to discovery.

dude, we work at the same company...

iExploder··on Ask HN: What skills do you think will be most in-demand in 10 years?
well any given week the answer might be different, world is not a constant
iExploder··on Ask HN: Who'll take ownership of AI's mistakes?
Based, but what if the AI starts holding you personally accountable.

Being a scapegoat for a Synthetic God for eternity, not muh cup a tea.

iExploder··on Ask HN: Why are comments here overwhelmingly critical?
Your post is almost correct but needs a minor adjustment for clarity and correctness.

"Comments lauding findings or praising efforts seem [TO] be valued less than those that find fault."

iExploder··on Ask HN: Did you get a new job in 2024?
not looking, but I noticed recruiters in Europe started to reach out again after more than a half year of radio silence
iExploder··on I'm 38 Web Developer and close to burnout
I would think about buying cheap land in Italy for farming and go for farming for bio olive / oil or wine.
iExploder··on Tokyo – Salary Expectations
I didn't work directly under Japanese management, only indirectly or as a b2b partner. I was never told directly to work longer hours as a result, there was some pressure from non japanese intermediaries.

There are also some unspoken expectations and etiquette rules that should be observed, which might create an environment heavier on work side.

Most of my understanding of the work culture comes from people I talked to who worked directly under Japanese management, and it can get tough, I never heard of someone directly being confronted, but heard about more subtle ways to ensure performance and obedience.

Its only my guess living and working in Japan this would be on completely another level.

iExploder··on Ask HN: Is getting highly paid salaries as programmers a bug?
its a feature of modern day corpo-capitalism. turns out processing data from billions of users and serving them subconsciousness influencing adds back in a modern day post capitalist techno widget factory requires skills that are in short supply... that is until LLMs make this shareholder's wet dream come true at a fraction of the price. huzzah!
iExploder··on Tokyo – Salary Expectations
I worked with couple of Japanese companies, people are very nice, respectful and hard working, but the work culture is not suitable for family life...
iExploder··on Tokyo – Salary Expectations
Yes, even for contractors it's considered high, with remote work in the mix one can create very comfortable life outside of the crowded cities plagued with all kinds of problems...
iExploder··on Tokyo – Salary Expectations
exactly, the OP should just take a family vacation 2x per year to japan if they like it that much instead
iExploder··on Tokyo – Salary Expectations
especially when already making 170.000€ in Europe with the freedom of self employment...
iExploder··on Ask HN: How to change jobs with almost no interviewing experience?
Time to get a real job bro.
iExploder··on Ask HN: Do You Use a Debugger?
C++ embedded developer, CV algorithms optimization and very rarely JavaScript for personal use. I use the debugger exclusivelly.

Logs are useful when reproducing the issue is complicated or having no access to source code. Usually related to timing sensitive issues with systems that communicate with each other.

iExploder··on Should I learn C++ or Rust?
learn Rust so you can tell others you know Rust, learn C++ to actually get a job and do real work :)

iExploder··on Elon Musk sues Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and OpenAI [pdf]
We can nuke it from the self sustaining colonies on Mars established by Musk in 2020...

Google "Microsoft strikes deal with Mistral in push beyond OpenAI" bro...
iExploder··on Elon Musk sues Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and OpenAI [pdf]
Musk claims the deal between OpenAI and MS is - MS gets access only to OpenAI pre-AGI tech. And he claims MS influences OpenAI board to not classify their AGI tech as AGI.

Based on that it stands to reason Musk would make a case of determining whether openai achieved AGI internally via gpt4 or q* through discovery. Maybe he can get depositions from ousted openai members to support this?

I'm not a lawyer, just trying to follow the breadcrumbs..

iExploder··on Elon Musk sues Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and OpenAI [pdf]
Could lead to juicy depositions and be subject to discovery. I wonder if Ilya makes an appearance.
iExploder··on Elon Musk sues Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and OpenAI [pdf]
Could it lead to probing and discovery?...
iExploder··on What do you think of Hacker News' design?
