iExploder··on Ask HN: How would you go about meeting a bunch of new people IRL?
Some that come to my mind I had good experience with are social hobbies, boxing, bjj, dancing classes, chess, tabletop groups.

Companies barely have enough time and money to keep developing their already existing 10+ yrs old tested and "working" codebases as is, how would anyone switch to a whole new language at this point?
iExploder··on How have you found purpose in your life?
We are social creatures. Providing value to others arguably leads to better long term satisfaction with life (unless psycho/sociopaths, they need not worry about this)

It can be through having kids, but also through teaching others, passing on knowledge or being of help to others through work or inventions.

iExploder··on Jensen Huang says kids shouldn't learn to code – they should leave it up to AI

iExploder··on If we are all trapped in a simulation (and that is likely). How can we escape?
Why escape? Access the debug console and rule the world...
iExploder··on Ask HN: Is it unethical to reverse engineer GPL violating software to create OSS
It is unethical not to do it if you have the capability.
iExploder··on Ask HN: How come pass-by-reference is not the default in C++?
Sometimes pass by value is what you need, for example passing a shared pointer to get the increment on use count.

Also I believe passing types smaller than or equal to pointer size by reference is redundant.

Not a carpenter, but what would be the problem?

Granted it might be still cheaper for humans to do the labor for some time, but eventually we will have most houses manufactured (home printing) or done as a prefab and assembled. For luxury some could be custom made by AI powered robots, based on user prompt.

iExploder··on Losing two jobs in one year
Subject to automation as any other human endeavour.

Might as well say to get a real job like hunting, foraging for berries or animal herding.

Deep story. The system is flawed -The capital take over of small family ran busineses by big corporate have not served the civilized west very well.

It made all of insignificant and constantly having to fight over scraps in sea of insecurity, offering nothing of substance, a doomed society.

iExploder··on Ask HN: Is this behavior disrespecting our profession?

iExploder··on Ask HN: Why there is a labour shortage in Germany?
salaries for tech workers are a joke in DE/AT when accounted for cost of living, taxes and what other professionals are making. the incentives do not match the work put in, hence why they can't find people and are in constant state of "wonder".

what seems to be the way to go is people ladder hopping every 2 years to make it to a managerial level, because when you not a manager you are nothing in Germany salary wise. the tech worker career track simply does not exist.

iExploder··on Ask HN: How to contract for US companies as EU national
Ok, you raised some very good points. first things first, you do get unemployment and sick benefits if you insure yourself, as self employed this is voluntary in Germany and in Austria you do get some basic coverage with statutory insurance afaik.

The specific case you described is not tax avoidance but tax fraud and anyone can replicate it or report it depending on their preferred moral inclination.

I'm talking about tax avoidance, again, I'm from eastern Europe and I know a _lot_ of people who have dependant sources of income but act as independent contractors despite working countless years for one employer and as a result paying much less on taxes despite having 5x income of average employee and this is taken out of said average employees salary who don't have the opportunity to work in high demand IT field whether due to education or not having above average IQ.

Of course there are a lot of people like you described in food, entertainment, maintenance or house building service who take cash on hand and never report it, but as said this is fraud not avoidance.

iExploder··on Ask HN: How to contract for US companies as EU national
yeah I think Germany and Austria have it right. things that are possible in some eastern EU countries can be easily considered tax avoidance at best and deliberate holes in laws that benefit certain people, this is reason why some people there can make the same or more after tax income compared to western europe.

imo its a question of time when EU decides to clamp down on this if they can

paying 0 % tax on capital gains and 7% tax on dividends, no social and health care charges is quite a thing when you compare the laws that govern this in western europe

iExploder··on Ask HN: How to contract for US companies as EU national
I think a lot of managers would prefer to see someone sitting in a chair and being able to control them on a fixed (low) salary, than to let people work remotely and have freedom of managing their own time and a competitive edge of freelancing.
iExploder··on Ask HN: How to contract for US companies as EU national
this makes sense, however I'm thinking having setup a local US llc might be better for optics
