Product Manager is trifecta of project lead / product owner / customer contact person and some times even a software engineer

a good PM or Manager has much higher value than a good coder. the problem is to be a good PM or Manager in tech you need not only good soft skills but also strong technical background. a lot of people in positions dont have either.

seems to me like buffer pushers would be more viable for FANGS. embedded is fun and interesting but for individual contributor / engineer there is not much money in it. might as well open up a shop backing up ssd drives and reinstalling windows for grandmas.

If you are rich enough I'm sure there are private alternatives, but you still live in a totalitarian country where especially as a foreigner you can get on the wrong end of the argument quickly.

For single young person I would recommend going, but its not the best place for foreigner families, unless you are either very rich or very connected to higher ups.

what I mean is it does not generate profit for shareholders or the city, instead it has to reinvest it into the business in full, hence non profit.

ideally each city would own a non profit company that rents out city apartments, both long and short term to people who move into the city for work.

as long as you work in the city you can keep using the apartment and pay rent that would be used to renovate / maintain / build apartments.

once you are ready to retire or accumulated enough money you have the option to buy your own property outside of the city.

profit based property renting as a form of income in heavily populated areas should not be allowed, or at least it should be regulated.

B&B / hotels are allowed.

I would argue 25% in perpetuity is not fair. Invested sum * interest based on risk, should be paid out to initial investors and then they should become "ordinary" employees of the company.

What you described is a discount version of ordinary capitalist company.

do all employees have shares with voting rights? how do you prevent hostile takeover where 51% decide its time to fire everyone else, sell the company and run with the bag?

how do you balance rewards for initial risk takers vs new hires who joined an already well oiled machine?

if you are chinese or single. would not recommend this with children or for non natives.

I believe this "dance" to be quite ineffective for both employers and employees, as the best strategy is standard 2 years somewhere then monkey branch for 20% bump in another company.

I guess this is a debate as old as time "invisible hand" vs "socialism". I understand both sides of the argument, but think it makes sense to have a bit of government oversight or workers initiatives here to make sure people are not getting shafted.

it cant be negotiated fairly. negotiating works for people who are "in the know" and have been in the industry for years such as yourself. everyone else gets shit end of the stick, because the company is negotiation from position of power with much more knowledge.

thats why some governments mandate minimum salary based on collective agreement or make it a law to provide salary range (for example Austria)

never going to happen for a very simple reason. what every for profit company is trying to do is to extract as much value and labor from employee as possible.

dont get it twisted, this is a war and salary is strategic information. noone in their right mind is going to share this information unless they are forced to or believe there is tangible benefit (for them) behind it.

your boss is not your boss because they are nice and kind person, your boss is your boss because they figured out how to extract value from other people for their benefit.

if you work for local companies yes, salary above 100k is common in Europe once you start looking at companies that compete on global market

you dont need CS degree to be employed as software engineer or consult, you need law degree / license or what have you in US or anywhere else to practice law

never said lawyers work only 1 or 2 hours on a case, but still imho lawyers consulting for 1 hour is much more common than software developers consulting for 1 hour.

lawyer has a moat with license and degree, does not translate to software unless you work in very specific areas

also software contracts are generally not for 1 or 2 hours in total. if you NEED and get someone to consult on your code for 1 or 2 hours the rate would be astronomical too.

my impression is Zig wants to replace C and has the same philosophy of a very simple language that does not evolve once it stabilizes. that means to me they want to stabilize the language with small amount of features and make it as performant as possible at that point. from their webpage:
