On a side note, another draconian US expat tax law, the US will tax US citizens on capital gains over the US limit on the sale of your foreign principal residence. Crazy right. Don’t live the US, maybe never have, but if you have US citizenship, accidentally or not, or a green card, they can tax you on the sale of a principle residence located outside US jurisdiction.
The US/Canada tax treaty is good in the sense I rarely pay double tax, except for some special circumstances (stock options), but it is a ton of paperwork, information, and stress that I didn’t mess something up. I worked in Germany for a couple of years, and when I wasn’t a Canadian tax resident (I am also a Canadian citizen) the Canadian Revenue Agency didn’t care about my German income and I didn’t have to file any information for it. It was bliss. But of course the US IRS cared. This tax filing years were nightmares.

I think you can start to heat again sometime during the drip phase. Start to enjoy your first cup while the 2nd cup is heating. Then the time between 2 cups being ready is shorter than option 1 and not at the same time as in option 2.
i was just surprised by the typical length of consecutive runs positive return years (3.6) vs negative return years (1.4).
Also, that if history has any bearing, 2018 will probably be a negative return year (there has never been longer than a 9 year run of positive returns).
Oh yes, good idea, sorry about that, the source of data was: http://www.moneychimp.com/features/market_cagr.htm
Yes of course, no guarantees. But seeing all the long runs of positive returns vs the short runs of negative returns does boost my confidence.
Or I would think with that amount of money you could walk into a number of major banks and negotiate a 2 year, 2% rate.
I should clarify my opinion encompasses both red light and speed cameras.
I know when traffic cameras are used never 100% of violations caisght on camera are used. The jurisdiction has to experiment on the % of violations enforced. Too many and the public gets angry and votes you out of office. Too little and it is not a deterrent. So in some cases, these municipalities where they have been deemed not effective have neglected to do this optimization and started with a % too low of enforcements.
People just assume traffic cameras are a cash grab. But the purpose is to deter bad driving behaviour at a lower cost than having officers in the field. Fines are the stick, but if it means money for municipities to reinvest that into the city, then great. For each city, there will be a threshold of % violations enforced before it be comes effective.
