idle_processor··on Microsoft isn't removing Copilot from Windows 11, it's just renaming it
Give FlowLauncher[0] or Windows Powertoys Run[1] a shot.

There are some amazing tools like that (and Everything[2], which replaces Windows' inferior search) that really change how one interacts with Windows.

There are other tricks like putting scripts or shortcuts or executables in a directory referenced by your PATH variable, which can make the Win+R trick better too.

idle_processor··on The Sad Bastard Cookbook
Ah, that's a bummer. I found it invaluable in conjunction ordering from a warehouse type store like Costco, followed by batch cooking and refrigerating or freezing things so I have low effort meals throughout the week.

Also, sheet pan meals are an incredibly low effort way to eat pretty healthy.

That's where instacart comes in.

Stuart McGill recommends periodically standing and stretching your arms over your head a couple times. You can see the motion demonstrated here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bcbuhePZZj0&t=459s

He also recommended doing the cat-cow from yoga, and there's a set of exercises referred to as the McGill big 3.

I've seen some positive references to the McKenzie method book, Treat Your Own Back. I haven't tried it specifically, but had good luck with their equivalent book for neck treatment.

> In a gaming environment where no two matches are ever the same, you can't go off of rehearsed actions because they won't work in all scenarios.

Even with routine muscle-memory tasks like combos in fighting games, "tournament nerves" are blamed for errors.

Time Warner didn't respect the choice to not disclose a reason. They went in circles a few times, instead of dropping the question and advancing the script.
idle_processor··on Airbnb is putting AMP at the core of its digital strategy
There's enough animosity out there to spread around between AMP and other centralizing forces. Calling one out doesn't implicitly give the others a pass.

Facebook (especially Instant Articles and video rehosting[0]) is awful for very similar reasons.

What's pernicious about AMP & co. is seizure of control and immense abuse potential that comes with preventing visitors from hitting content creators' domains.

idle_processor··on Show HN: Checkbot for Chrome – web crawler that tests for web best practices
> The major one is that instead of manually checking pages one at a time, Checkbot lets you easily test 1,000s of pages in a few minutes to root out issues you'd normally miss.

ScreamingFrog does this too, but it's still nice that your work is out there to add to the suite.

idle_processor··on Show HN: Checkbot for Chrome – web crawler that tests for web best practices
- A regex blacklist for URL structure would be very helpful.

- Acceptable title length seems a bit short. 70 characters seems closer to what we're allowed today than the old 60 (per http://www.bigleap.com/blog/5-tips-take-advantage-googles-ne...).

Might also be worth segmenting URLs with query parameters in them into a low priority batch to check later (or skip).

(E.g., when spidering a WordPress site, the crawler wastes time on .../article/?replytocom=* URLs. URL filtering solves this, somewhat, but it might require multiple passes to identify all of the problematic query strings.)

idle_processor··on The Problem of Colour
The choice of colors in some medieval rainbow depictions was interesting, too.

> For it is of four colours, and takes its appearance from all of the elements into itself. From the sky it draws the fiery colour, from the waters purple, from the air white, and from the earth it gathers black.

idle_processor··on Time Inc. Sells Itself to Meredith Corp., Backed by Koch Brothers
The implication is that the Koch brothers gain power or favors by undermining Time's selection process, making Trump PotY. Whether it's because Trump wants to be PotY or because it boosts the right wing are open to interpretation.

I am not endorsing the OP's statement, just trying to clarify.

Thanks for bringing this up. It was bothering me.

Here are specific instructions on how to do this, for the curious: https://superuser.com/a/1050664

idle_processor··on How Firefox Got Fast Again
> 3. Firefox also has completely separate profiles, in addition to container tabs. The UI isn't as polished as in Chrome, but it works: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-...

Chrome allows users to simultaneously run multiple profile instances, each with it own profile. Firefox didn't seem to support that.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account... (or a similar addon) might bring me back to using Firefox.

With Chrome, one set up a profile shortcut to a given profile, and then all tabs/windows within the instance corresponded to the same profile. This meant hitting Ctrl+T to open new tabs, rather than having to click and dig through a menu to pick the right profile.

I'd like the containers addon to support easy shortcuts. Maybe on hitting ctrl+t, one can then press 1-5 (or some other selector) to determine which profile the new tab opens in. Alternatively, more safely and less confusingly, just having windows sticky to a specific profile, so all new tabs predictably open into the same profile.

idle_processor··on Perspective: Google API that detects toxic comments
You can achieve something similar to bang shortcuts by adding different search engines to your browser of choice and setting short keywords for them.

E.g., in Chrome: Settings > manage search engines > find Wikipedia > change the shortcut to "w."

idle_processor··on Perspective: Google API that detects toxic comments
There are alternatives, service-by-service.

Try startpage or duckduckgo for search. (The prior is essentially a proxy for Google).

Fastmail or protonmail to get away from GMail. One of the hard things about avoiding Google in email is that even if you switch, others you communicate are likely still there, so Google's still getting that information.

etherael doesn't appear to be supporting the logical clout of that type of argument, but rather commenting on its ubiquity in modern public discourse and success in driving policy.
