php-pear dark magic is nothing compared to installing the framework libraries from git! The pear.horde.org instructions fail to mention that you must install horde/Horde_Role before any of the applications.

The UI is currently undergoing a rewrite, but the default interface can be forced into the traditional view in the Horde configuration.

Have you tried Horde 4? It is much better than version 3 and is not affected by this issue.

Sure, but now phones generate other revenue than just the service contract. You don't think phone manufacturers would want some of that?

Perhaps the market will change to be more like the console market, where the hardware is sold at a loss in exchange for future revenue from other sources. I would look for phone manufacturers to start asking for a percentage of app sales.

Notes on Philadelphia: Most photos on the regional rail lines are by locals, even on the northeast corridor. Tourists in Fairmount park are not making it much further than the zoo and art museum, which is unfortunate because there are lots of great areas north of that. I would have expected more activity in both rivers due to the tours and rowing that take place. Penn/Drexel campuses are photographed much more than the Temple campus.

The U.S. government has paperwork hoops to jump which takes time. I believe you need to get on the GSA schedule in order for departments to be able to purchase your products or services. Many things are competitively bid.

On the plus side, the government may be a source of funding. Look into the Office of Naval Research or grants.gov to see what they are looking to fund.

People no longer care that there is "Intel Inside" when it comes to cell phones and tablets, the fastest growing markets. Sure, the Intel/AMD chip will support all of the x86 baggage, but what phone or tablet has legacy code to support?

The author barely acknowledges the difference between the value of a device to you the consumer as software is added, and the value of the device in the marketplace. Consumer electronics might increase in perceived value to the consumer with added software functionality, but until the limits of semiconductors are met they will not increase in value in the marketplace. Even then taking a new cell phone home will be just like driving a new car off the lot: instant depreciation.

Graduate schools are usually designed to make money from tuition. You will find MBA programs labeled as entrepreneurial, but these schools won't fund you.

I use Drupal for my day job, not for startup work right now.

Why is this a concern? Get the best possible product out of the technologies you already know, and success will follow. No one is going to turn down funding your startup or using it just because it does not use their preferred programming language.
