indalo··on Apple Hides Taiwan Flag in Hong Kong
Been noticing it as well. Strange indeed
indalo··on What’s Next in Making Encrypted DNS-over-HTTPS the Default
To me that is good press, and it's something I personally would like. Seeing a state and/or adjunct corporations throwing a tantrum over this is only a measure of success.

After all privacy is the goal, isn't it?

indalo··on How Facebook Tracks You on Android (2018) [video]
I'd like curated content to have a larger presence as well. I wonder If enhancing playlists could accomplish this. You can add metadata and arrange while the video remains on its channel.

On the other hand I doubt a lot of reuploading is done in earnest.

indalo··on YouTube shuts down 210 Chinese channels posting about Hong Kong
Its "or" harassment. The approach is to generally ask benign seeming questions that are very complex to answer. In the gp if of my comment there is already context and is a reply to something else. Bypassing all of that to ask how the entire thing works is likely a disingenuous attempt at using an asymmetrically simple question asking for a huge answer.
indalo··on YouTube shuts down 210 Chinese channels posting about Hong Kong
You can choose to feel that way about it. the gp of my reply is pointing to the article, content and thereforce context therein. Not addressing any single part with a question done in the spirit of casting doubt knowing full well how the answer goes is perfectly within the description of sealioning.
indalo··on Datadog S-1
Same boat here. We ended up going with an ELK stack instead. Muchm much, more control and worked fine for us.
indalo··on YouTube shuts down 210 Chinese channels posting about Hong Kong
This smells like sealioning.
indalo··on Big Pharma is using faux generics to keep drug prices high, critics say
Understandable, but something like an EpiPen and a lot of other very well established things like say, insulin. They're well within the realm of a stable generic that can be managed as to maximize the amount of lifes it improves. Right?
indalo··on Uber Posts $5.2B Loss and Slowest Ever Growth Rate
I'm sorry but I disagree. Alluding to "maybe not knowing" whether someone wants to do something which has, plenty of times been demonstrated in economical and psychological terms to be detrimental is not a strong argument. It's just tossing a very sheer cover of "we don't know that" and ending there.
indalo··on Dismantling Free Markets Won't Solve Biodiversity Threat
I would exercise caution as this is linked to the CATO institute. I find their method of inquiry and reporting to be disingenuous.
indalo··on Germans Grow Frustrated with Their Slow-Poke Internet
I think that is what just happened...
indalo··on Problems with the CSS background-image property
these are super weak. I dont need a background image indexed. there are plenty of ways to bundle and optimize images using webpack and the like. It sounds like someone using the least amount of tools available to make a case for a better tool, which plenty of exist...
indalo··on Siri records fights, doctor’s appointments, and sex, and contractors hear it
I'm overdue for a phone and I am at this moment reaching religious faith levels of hope for this librem phone.

please release it!

indalo··on Scientists stunned by ‘city-killer’ asteroid that just missed Earth
woah, for real? I thought I must've done something real shady in the past but now that you mention it , I have the same exact issue. what gives?
indalo··on Preserving Laptop Stickers on MacBooks
what a weird thing to get hung up about
indalo··on Camera and microphone require HTTPS in Firefox 68
that's wpengine's cdn, most likely the host of the blog.
indalo··on Show HN: An ad-free news website with crowdsourced summaries
Love the idea and execution! How do you deal with repetitious fact/links being added to an article?

good luck!

indalo··on Nasa Rover on Mars Detects Puff of Gas That Hints at Possibility of Life
it sounds like a technicality in the scope if the instrumentation. I'd assume that if you can find the building blocks of life, you can guide and establish the next set of tests. I assume that if there is life, the current test would pass and by being broad it has a better chance at getting a hit if it's there.
indalo··on NSA Starts Contributing Low-Level Code to UEFI BIOS Alternative
brings the concerns that seem to have been forgotten about the strange CPU behavior with their preffered version with elliptical curve
indalo··on Little Free Pantry
Grew up in Florida. It's most common around touristic area and the motivation is simple, they see helping the homeless as a way of elongating their stay instead of shortening it. they put the businesses over disenfranchised people.
indalo··on Vue RFC: Expose logic-related component options via function-based APIs instead
your comment lead me to take a look and I have to say I agree. it looks denser but feels more cryptic. sure hope it remains optional.
indalo··on London bans cars for a day in the fight against air pollution
what even is the motivation for stopping something like that? article describes it as very successful. so sad.
indalo··on Linode GPU Instances
I have like 18 of their auction servers that are unmetered at 1gbps and really make that bandwidth sweat. I've never had issues honestly, and they've never tried to dreamhost me. I love it.
indalo··on JavaScript Is the CO2 of the Web [audio]
Yeah, I've never understood the yearning for effectively plain text html. I remember recently a submission that had a "brutalist" styleguide.

I wonder how much of this is a reaction to the complex and volatile nature of frontend patterns, in a psychological sense.

indalo··on Chromium and the Browser Monoculture Problem
I'd imagine that with MSFT having similar products to Google. there exists an incentive for similar behaviors to occur in terms of data collection.

I hadn't given it much of a thought since edge/ie are such a non starter usually. Would be interesting to look into!

indalo··on Apollo raises $22M to simplify app development
The power comes in two fronts. The ease that the cli tools you mentioned to help you gather a solid baseline of these smaller packages, and then, giving you the ability to decompose the features into interchangeable parts by ejecting or just by virtue of how small the packages are. The problem with monolithic frameworks in my opinion lies with the second part, they develop to he opinionated and for valid reasons, but sometimes that create really intense friction when changes need to happen in particular ways.
indalo··on Kubernetes Failure Stories
my goodness, breathe.

In my experience I haven't had that much difficulty finding problems that k8s solves and what problems it doesnt, for me. I eased into k8s using rancher and groked stuff as I went along, a little ansible and you can go a very long way if you want to use your own hardware.

Not everything has to be run like dedicated servers in a closet named after lion king characters that you SSH into every day "just to check", and keeping software up to date is the same its ever been, pay attention and apply patch, lol.

indalo··on Fabrix – A strongly-typed Node.js ecosystem
koa is great. have it running on a couple of production applications
indalo··on OpenAI releases larger GPT-2 model

indalo··on 5-MeO-DMT Associated with Improvements in Depression, Anxiety
Landmark forum is a self improvement seminar with pretty cult-ish tendencies. I lost a really good friend to it as well.
