ipaddr··on The Milwaukee Brewers win the first World Series title in franchise history
It doesn't explain why it is not discussed on openair channels.
ipaddr··on Ask HN: Can we do something about this impending AI dystopia
You don't remember because it happened over 100 years ago.

Planes didn't replace ships. Ships travel was always for the rich and now we have luxury cruises. Planes offered a cheaper quicker but rougher experience. Cars replaced horses.

Typist moved to computer typist or data entry. Travel agents still exist but that career is dead.

I think programmers have already been replaced now you manage an ai programmer. Next leap will remove that role and many others.

Biden was fully functional. Putting on a mask as you walk to your dinner table only to take it off will prevent catching covid. A guy in a dress can get a period.

This is part of analyzing model output against others and known capabilities. The Orge riding a bike is just a QA test. Maybe you can work on civilization level testing tools.

Then he qualified to say it depends on the unique details of the documentation. I don't think its possible. You have to try all models with effort and compare all or go on reputation or vibes.
ipaddr··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
It's 9 months. They probably won't do layoffs again for 6 months and you will get a package then for more than 3 months. Makes sense to hang on.
ipaddr··on Free Software Is a Failure
"GPL has become so complicated that only a programmer with relatively advanced legal knowledge and ability to read and properly understand “legalese” will be able to decipher it to know what they are able and unable to do with it"

Have you ever seen legal terms in easy to understand form in any software, service or agreements?

Opencode go with DeepSeek is endless and hard to max out for 10 dollars. ChatGPT Sol 5 hour window is limiting but they keep resetting the weekly budget I haven't had a chance to use my monthly reset and it's a better model compared to deepseek. Claude gets used up quickly. Grok is okay but it's image generating has become the worst.

If you need endless calls opencode go is the best. If you want a model you can trust more that can generate images use ChatGPT.

I have open go and chatgpt personal subscriptions and use Claude at work where I often spent $200 a day.

Easy fix make prosecutors become defense lawyers every second case. Outcomes of both affect careers.
ipaddr··on MPs moving to restrict gambling ads in Canada
They had a ban in place for years and it worked. They have a ban for non kyc cryto markets. It is easy to lean on payment processors and stop 90% of it.
ipaddr··on MPs moving to restrict gambling ads in Canada
The guy who sold out in the 80s and moved to LA is now dead to you over gambling ads? Very delayed reaction.

How are the policemen waking you up if not pounding on your door or breaking it down? Or if they found a key under a mat and are beside your bed shaking you awake.

In those cases I'd rather the boss pounding at the door at least I could call the police and have them removed.

"The people who show up regularly to the council meetings are not community members"

They are community members just not the ones who share your point of view. Those community members who might share your point of view don't show up.

I've never seen community members fight for density either. We want to tear down our housing so large buildings blocking the sky can be built by corporate landowners. You know who owns large buildings? Corporate landowners. The people with little houses are average citizens.

Public transit doesn't need density. Public transit exists in places with little density.

ipaddr··on DeepSeek banned from U.S. federal civilian agencies under new DHS order
Closed sourced applications like Microsoft Word or Windows or Google products like chrome do collect and send back environment secrets. Using that logic nothing but open source should be allowed.

They wanted control because the Palestinians cause was winning the tiktok war. Controlling cnn, cbs and tiktok will shape those views.

They also have a virtuous history protecting love.

That's like saying Google protects hate because people who hate you use Google.

When you are colorblind you end up helping everyone even people that hate you.
