Same. I have a .family domain which is great, but about 1/3rd of the registration flows claim it’s an “invalid email address”. I have an older .org to fall back on, but it would be nice to use one domain for everything.

I’m tired of the constant “no evidence” bs. I have children and their behavior changes dramatically when they eat food with artificial coloring. I’m honestly tired of being told I’m crazy. You can take my kids and try it yourself.

That's weird, I have a Google Workspace account with less than 10 paid users and had several in-depth conversations with support personnel on SMTP and DNS setup issues. It was outsourced to an overseas call center, but they did respond to my queries.

That said, I have issues with spam being delivered to my organization's group aliases and I can't report the spam because it flags it against my group alias not the original sender (!) I can't turn spam filtering on the group alias because it flagged legitimate emails from our customers. So I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place, with no one at Google to talk to about it.

While I agree with your premise, once you charge someone for something, even if it is $1/year, then they start expecting something for that money above and beyond what you provided earlier. In other words, now you've got to budget for real customer support and that will undoubtedly cost you more than the $1/year you're receiving as payment from that customer.

Exactly. There is a gross information asymmetry that underlies the problem. In order to participate in many parts of society, you need a phone number. For 99% of us, the link between that phone number and your identity is basically public.

Then, along comes scam callers and illegal telemarketers. They have the capability to spoof arbitrary phone numbers to call you, which you as an individual do not have. Then, even if you do discover a real outgoing number that traces back to them, they can hide their true identity behind this bullshit “privacy” excuse.

I receive at least 10-20 scam, robocall, or hangup calls per day. That’s hardly “occasional”.

At least we both agree on how we would get rid of our phone numbers. But the reason businesses use it as a verification method is because it is hard to get one - and it costs $$$. It’s basically a outsourced, ubiquitous, federated human identity service.

Notice how they all filter out voip numbers - because voip numbers are too cheap to acquire to rely on as a filter. They assume that only humans would pay the monthly charge for a landline or mobile number. So $$$ to pay for phone service is used as the universal “captcha” of last resort.

I was able to get activation lock removed on 2018 MacBook I purchased off eBay this way- I took it into an Apple Store to get its keyboard replaced under warranty and they just asked me to produce the eBay listing with the serial number visible and my shipping address on the order.

You can probably get your old card issuer to pull up your statement. I’ve done similar stuff in the past with closed brokerage accounts. It may be an involved process and take a while to reach the right person but worth a try at least!

Ironically enough slack is organizational memory where I work. We have an insane retention policy where emails are auto deleted after 60 days. It’s nuts - just when you need that sent email, you realize it’s gone. Yet slack is not subject to that policy… so I always know I can just search there for what I need.

I totally disagree. I have found doctors to be fantastic when you have a physically obvious or life threatening injury. Broken arm? Gunshot wound? Doctors work great.

An app can deny access to take screenshots in Android. In iOS, there's no way to deny screenshots, but apps can be notified if a screenshot is taken. What the app then does with that information... you may not know ahead of time. Be careful out there!
