irishasaurus··on Introducing Keybase Teams
Cool! Pay me and I"ll build you a linux server with mattermost and git on it. You can self host all the things they're putting together here on keybase. And it's free now, but it won't be for too much longer, soon there'll be freemium and then a full paid service. Because they want you to build an environment and workflow around it, and once you're making money with it you'll gladly pay a bit in a few years or so when you're large enough to afford it.

But until then, I"ll totally build you a self hosted solution. I'll even work remote.

irishasaurus··on Tesla's 'long-haul' electric truck aims for 200 to 300 miles on a charge
I would assume since these are going to be commercial vehicles Tesla will resurrect or otherwise leverage their battery swap idea. Which fizzled out for private vehicles but would really help extend the range of these trucks. http://www.teslarati.com/tesla-to-debut-battery-swapping-sta...

Also more of the tractor can hang underneath the trailer so there's the chance for a larger battery capacity. Like this extended tractor (the semi painted green not the flatbeds behind it) in this image that is 22 feet long. http://www.bigtruckguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Sout...

irishasaurus··on How Hate Groups Forced Online Platforms to Reveal Their True Nature
"This was also a moment these hate groups were anticipating; getting banned in an opaque, unilateral fashion was always the way out and, to some degree, it suits them."

I think this is the viewpoint all coverage needs to employ. That these groups are already trying to frame themselves as victims and media needs to preempt this by framing their cries for what they are, a quick slip and fall scam.

*Edited for clarity

irishasaurus··on Former Harvard Money Manager Is Launching a Digital-Currency Hedge Fund
So the fund is managed in the Caymen Islands?
irishasaurus··on Is the open office layout dead?
I don't understand how nobody here can compromise. Build quiet spaces into your office floorplan and eat the cost up front. If you can't afford to provide a place to work quietly for those that want it you can't afford space in that office building. Or you can't afford that number of employees. It's getting ridiculous, If you're going to keep saying it's expensive take the cost from somewhere else, like payroll. Provide a great workspace for your employees and in return you'll get great work. Poor planning upfront is going to cost you so much more on the back end.
irishasaurus··on Former Harvard Money Manager Is Launching a Digital-Currency Hedge Fund
I would argue avoiding taxes from the country where the fund is managed is a bit illegitimate.
irishasaurus··on Amazon data science interview questions
I'm sorry if I'm ignorant of the platform, are the different posts the interview questions? Also what am I to make of the platform itself? Is this an app hosted on heroku I can access later on my phone? If that's the case that would be awesome, like a targeted stackoverflow.

irishasaurus··on Airbnb’s ban of Nazis in Charlottesville sets an important standard
Riiiiiiight, that's why underground groups on the far left like anarchists and communists were so successful in Poland, Spain, Greece and elsewhere. The far right was normalized and that's how they grew their ranks. It was the editor that published Mein Kampf as well as Hitler. It was the Italian media and the futurists that helped Mussolini gain power. This isn't about censorship, this is about how fascists can co-opt the democratic process and rise to power.

irishasaurus··on Airbnb’s ban of Nazis in Charlottesville sets an important standard
Good they should hide. We don't want these people preaching radicalism in our public spaces, where they can start recruiting more people. They should be banned from the mainstream internet and go back to the crappy little geosites they were stuck in until 2014.

All I see on facebook these days are apologists and racists as the top comment on any news site. I see them on my twitter feed. I even see them in dating apps. Nobody wants them there, as they usually encourage a long chain of comments expressing the fact that they're unwelcome. Sometimes one or two are flagged and banned. A week later, another little network is built up again and the loud and extreme few are handed a megaphone. We need better filtering algorithms for this nonsense that operate on a macro level. You can call it censorship if you want. I'm not saying to make it impossible for them to communicate their message, they just should be relegated to doing so from one account at a time.

This didn't work out so well, http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2016/11/17/twitter_i...

This effort is half hearted at best, disorganized in practice https://www.facebook.com/notes/facebook-safety/controversial...

It's been vigilantes doxxing that have had the largest impact, however what they do is illegal and against the terms of service of the apps they're trying to rid of hateful speech. http://www.haaretz.com/us-news/.premium-1.806719

I would love to see more tech leaders actually build intelligent solutions to weeding out hatespeech on the internet.

Let them go underground, that's where they belong.

How will the average user be able to avoid these fees considering they'll probably be using some 3rd party app?

This really is the other side of the automated trucking coin. This way they can build enough of a network to start brokering freight for autonomous trucking companies and hiring short distance truck drivers, much like pilot/captains in shippng.
