ivann··on Bluesky has been dealing with a DDoS attack for nearly a full day
The group that claim to be doing the DDoS also claim to be DDoSing the status page specifically.
ivann··on French ex-president Sarkozy begins jail sentence
Your own link said it 33%, so not the majority. A union has no obligation of "independence". Being member of a union does not mean you agree with everything, just that you think it's the best to defend your interests. The "Fête de l’Huma" is not the Communist Party's annual conference but it is indeed left leaning. There is no need to write communist in all caps, it's not an insult. For your last point you'll need to provide sources.
ivann··on French ex-president Sarkozy begins jail sentence
The "Red judge myth"is, well, a myth. And Fillon's case was very clear and he had all the reason to be prosecuted.
ivann··on ‘No Other Land’ consultant Awdah Hathaleen killed by Israeli settler
A few, for example Meir Ettinger, an hilltop youth leader has served some time in jail.

The idea for Israel was to have its national criminal jurisdictions prosecute just enough to not be seen as failing by the ICC and meet its 'complementarity' criterion [0]. Even spying on ICC staff to see who it was investigating.

At least that's how it used to be, now they just threaten the ICC.

ivann··on Belgium will ban sales of disposable e-cigarettes
It might be better to accept what is right now and buy a rig but then play with the nicotine level to reduce it step by step. Once you reach 0 you won.
ivann··on Banned from Bluesky Within 30s
Well, as said in the sibling comment, even for clinical sex it's not that simple. Intersex is a fact of life.

As for gender it's a social construct so using a binary qualification makes no sense. One could say it's a spectrum but it doesn't even have to be this restrictive. Why force people to take the whole package of constructs and ethos from either one? What's wrong with having a beard and makeup? Is this insanity to you?

Of course this is not about identifying as object. Please don't use mediocre rhetoric like that.

ivann··on Banned from Bluesky Within 30s
But this wasn't about saying "there are only two sexes".
ivann··on Banned from Bluesky Within 30s
How can a comment about gender be a true biological fact? Aren't you mixing up sex and gender?

ivann··on Shrinking the economy won't save the planet
a) You only get this message if you stop at the title. The rest of the article is not a criticism of degrowth but a criticism of it's academic literature.

b) At 12.6 tCO2eq/cap/year [0] I would not call this a success.

ivann··on Consent-O-Matic – automatically fills ubiquitous pop-ups with your preferences
Would this get past the GDPR? I get the defeatism, there are powerful actors, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try to improve the situation.
ivann··on Consent-O-Matic – automatically fills ubiquitous pop-ups with your preferences
Yes, this will need legislative backing. We had the GDPR since the DNT.

I also just discovered the GPC which seems more interesting: https://globalprivacycontrol.org

ivann··on Consent-O-Matic – automatically fills ubiquitous pop-ups with your preferences
I like this proposal to add a "purpose" field to the cookie header. This could allow consent settings at the browser level, preventing all these pop-ups.

ivann··on Australian employees now have the right to ignore work emails, calls after hours
And that's the confirmation. But given how emotional your response is I guess there is something personal to it so I won't push it.

I'm just curious as to why did you make a distinction between France and Europe.

ivann··on Australian employees now have the right to ignore work emails, calls after hours
This strike me as a very naive view of the world.
ivann··on Australian employees now have the right to ignore work emails, calls after hours
Wait, can an employer fire you even if you didn't make a fault? What country are you in?
ivann··on Mpv – A free, open-source, and cross-platform media player
There is a fork that's still under development [1], or you can use mpc-be [2].

ivann··on SponsorBlock – skip sponsor segments on YouTube
But does it really work? I would expect click fraud detection to catch this pretty easily given how big the click fraud arms race is, especially since AdNauseam said their implementation is quite naive.
ivann··on SponsorBlock – skip sponsor segments on YouTube
YouTube has started cancelling premium subscription made in a different country.

ivann··on What I Saw in the Darién Gap
I should have left the SPLC parts out because the rest is enough on it's own and you are all focusing on it so you can ignore the rest.

Also I don't understand the argument of calling it "partisan crusades" while sending me conservative Christian sources.

ivann··on What I Saw in the Darién Gap
Well that's not an easy one to answer, we have so many different far-lefts, some do, some don't. I would say most do.

Also the very definition of "valuing freedom" can be debated with widely different answers depending on the country or the political group.

ivann··on What I Saw in the Darién Gap
> Yes, technically they are people, from the same species. Then about anything else is different.

They are people, without technicalities. And we have a lot in common. There are a lot of differences inside a country too. In my country far-right doesn't value women right, personal freedom and non-violence while most migrants I've met do.

ivann··on What I Saw in the Darién Gap
I don't need fact checkers to know it's bad when white nationalism and Alex Jones are involved.
ivann··on What I Saw in the Darién Gap
On the "Center for Immigration Studies":

> The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) is an American anti-immigration think tank. It favors far lower immigration numbers and produces analyses to further those views. The CIS was founded by historian Otis L. Graham alongside eugenicist and white nationalist John Tanton in 1985 as a spin-off of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). It is one of a number of anti-immigration organizations founded by Tanton, along with FAIR and NumbersUSA.

> Reports published by CIS have been disputed by scholars on immigration, fact-checkers and news outlets, and immigration-research organizations. The organization had significant influence within the Trump administration, which cited the group's work to defend its immigration policies. The Southern Poverty Law Center designated CIS as a hate group with ties to the American nativist movement. The CIS sued the SPLC over the designation, but the lawsuit was dismissed.

And on Michael Yon in the Darién Gap:

> Since 2021, Yon has worked as a fixer in the Darién Gap, a dangerous stretch of jungle used by migrants entering the United States illegally. He has worked with figures such as Alex Jones and Laura Loomer, getting them access to the camps where legacy media are barred by security. A New York Times article noted that he targeted the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, quoting him as saying that "they’re coming across the border and it’s being funded with Jewish money.”

ivann··on Tell HN: Bypass Paywalls repository is gone
There are some but with very few users and limited to a small number of sites. The only one still on AMO that comes close is the one by iamadamdev (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bypass-paywal...) which is discussed here : https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40016918
ivann··on Tell HN: Bypass Paywalls repository is gone
But it was removed from AMO. That was an issue as people that installed it from AMO just stopped receiving updates silently. You had to uninstall it and re-install the gitlab version for the auto-update to work again.
