~10 years experience with Rails, around 20 years overall. Full web apps / mobile APIs.
I also tried Notion but it's very slow.
I used to tell everyone who cared to listen that learning english would open up your world like you can't imagine (as it did for me). How many people even tried? 0. The common denominator is having to learn, and the only two ways that I've seen really work, is moving to another country OR having a strong interest about something and using a language to learn more about it (and you'll learn two things at once!).

* These are approximate as Google started paying in my country's currency.I've made redesigns and adjustments over time, but it's been mostly passive, specially the past three years or so as I haven't touched it at all.
Don't ask me the URL, it's fugly and I'm embarrassed (though you can probably find it). Over the past few months I've been actually working on the side building a platform to help me launch other similar projects in a more useful, less ugly fashion. Too much to do, too little time. Stupid wasted youth :D
I never done a calculation like this before, and I didn't realize it's its 10th year anniversary! How cool is that. I would live like a king at 24 with my current cashflow.
Hi, I'm a full stack dev, 8+ years of Rails experience, more with JavaScript et al. DevOps experience (Ansible), PostgreSQL (I have a long love history with SQL, from MSSQL, to MySQL).
I love learning, challenges, and figuring out how to deliver great value within the constraints I'm given.

Affordable weekly rate.
Part of the explanation is that is has a pretty long tail.
Weren't it for years of stupid decisions (and a family, the one best decision ever though), I could almost live comfortably off of that.
Motivated by breaking $100/day a few months ago and now $200, I'm using it as a sort of template to launch other sites. By this time next year I might actually break $10,000/month and then finally relax :)
I suggest you outline what type of application you're building and related requirements, and post that to http://stackoverflow.com
You build a working HTML4 web app, and then sprinkle progressive enhancements with JS and HTML5 (even offline browsing!), and voilá! You've got a web application with an awesome desktop client!
So for example, if I want the english Google (hl=en), I have a keyword "g", and when I want local MX content (.com.mx, hl=es), I use gmx.
Of course it's still no excuse for Google (and other companies) to offer such bad user experience.
Never had any issue with PostgreSQL.
The third replicator that will doom us all: the web (and the power it, along with all the connected devices consume).
More interesting (to me anyways): What if little by little Google "decides" to start showing us information that will lead to our destruction?
Like what the traditional media mostly does, except we trust Google, right?
I suppose it's a good thing, but I also wish everybody would use StackOverflow and ServerFault ;-)
I learned English when I was about 12, in part thanks to my passion for computers and in part because I had great teachers (in public school!). It's been one of the greatest gifts I've been given.
I know very few people who understand it. I do tell many how life changing it is, and how it greatly opens up your world and your mind... but mostly they look at me bewildered:
"why would I learn that? I'm doing fine!" or, "Nah, too difficult, and I don't have time"...
It's a shame, to not be able to share so many things I've learned with the people I care about, and to know how much they're missing. Ignorance is indeed bliss I guess.
I wouldn't even be here on HN if it wasn't for this.
I live in what you'd call a 3d world country (Mexico), and this stuff makes me think about why empires fall and others rise...
The rising stars get to watch how an empire falls ;-)
One of my dreams is to open a school that's much better than most of the schools in Mexico, using the good and bad examples of schools in countries like the US and the UK. My 2 cents to leave to the world.
