ivoryloom··on I decided to stop working on Mighty
I was skeptical about Mighty but seeing gaming platforms moving to streaming, PG endorsing this as the future, I thought I was just not getting it. Maybe I should trust myself more.
ivoryloom··on Ask HN: Is it a good time to start freelancing?
If it's something you really want to do, I suggest you start doing it despite the world situation. You can't postpone your dream lifestyle by 3+ years only because there's a recession or whatever else. It might be harder than it would have 5-6 years ago, but also if you start now when the economy gets better again you'll be in a fantastic position.

As usual, the advice is to start on the side while having a job, so I wouldn't recommend quitting your day job and going into freelancing with 0 clients. But there's different ways of going about it that are not as abrupt (freelancing on the weekend, reducing your current hours, finding a different part-time job..)

ivoryloom··on Twitter Begins Offering $7.99-a-Month Verification Subscriptions
Good point, that makes sense
ivoryloom··on Signal to roll out Snapchat-like “stories” feature
Having stories in messaging apps feels wrong to me for some reason, although I can see the appeal of it. It must be exhausting for people who use stories on different platforms, like WhatsApp + Instagram + Snapchat.

At some point we'll need a service that just does that for you (if it doesn't exist already)

ivoryloom··on Microsoft mulling cheap PCs supported by ads, subscriptions
> Included in the possible models are low-cost PCs available via subscriptions, with advertising helping to offset some of the costs. (Also mentioned in the job are direct-to-cloud devices.)

Does direct-to-cloud mean something like ChromeOS? That could be interesting

ivoryloom··on Twitter Begins Offering $7.99-a-Month Verification Subscriptions
I hope they're re-adding verification to it soon, otherwise blue checks completely lose their original purpose. Despite not liking his childish antics I'm rooting for Musk with this Twitter acquisition, as Twitter needed to improve - it's just not looking good from these first few days
