Your site seems down or unresponsive. (Or can't handle the huge load of people trying to hire you concurrently).

janbernhart··on Ask HN: Maybe I'm just not smart enough?
I'll hire decent intelligence + high Conscientiousness over the vice versa, any time. (And realizing that, despite being on a prestigious Uni, you're not a genius, is also a pretty good sign of character).

Now that doesn't help you with your interview problems, and perhaps you do have to take a slight side-step. But if your self-analyses is correct, you'll get there.

janbernhart··on Ask HN: Any startups solving for software engineering hiring?
I have 12 years of Tech recruitment experience and was about to write exactly this (with worse grammar and style though).

Most'solutions' that claim that recruitment is broken, don't understand recruitment.

janbernhart··on Ask HN: Questions to ask a company to know you don't want to work there?
The risk with that is, that you create a lot of island and switching between teams becomes difficult. Also, bias tends to crank up if it gets personal. (you literally see people judging sense of humor of the candidates, if they know they'll work with them closely). In general I think it's best to interview not knowing if the candidate will end up in your team/
janbernhart··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (January 2021)
Not a dedicated graduate job with a defined mentoring plan. But some graduates don't need much mentoring (or thrive better without a fixed plan). We're open to consider those.

janbernhart··on Ask HN: About Financial Inequity
I personally don't believe that financial inequity is a bad thing perse. So I don't have any strong feelings towards people who have more or less than I do.
janbernhart··on Ask HN: How to develop empathy?
Mockery in a friendly setting does not equal a lack of empathy. It reads like you're being too hard on yourself. What is the reason you feel bad about taste of mocking even in a friendly way?
janbernhart··on Ask HN: Learning about philosophy
I also love this podcast.

janbernhart··on Ask HN: How to interview a candidate from a direct competitor
I'm assuming that you also don't share company secrets with regular candidates? I wouldn't be too afraid if your competitor learns a bit about team structure, culture, way of working. It's probably wise to share with the candidate that you won't cover too specific cases, and don't expect him/her to share that kind of information from their side.
janbernhart··on Ask HN: How can a C++ SDE transition to a full stack position?
Some companies require a portfolio. Some require experience with the coolest, newest version of toolX. But also some of them will just value a solid engineer that is already teaching themselves knowledge they would need. The trick is to find that last type of company. Usually it's companies that don't need to sell their own services/people constantly.

janbernhart··on Ask HN: What is a better approach to interviewing?
Anything you do will raise criticism. This doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to it, but don't make avoiding criticism the main goal of your approach.
janbernhart··on Ask HN: Why doesn't Starbucks beat local coffee shops?
Why doesn't Mcdonalds beat local artisan restaurants?

Because their strategy is to be easy, convenient, familiar, safe, etc. The food/coffee is pretty bad, but you know what you get. This apparently is what the masses want. Predictable experience.

janbernhart··on Ask HN: Is there any serious discussion about the stock market online?
If someone 'knows/sees' product X is over/under valued, he/she will act on it (buy or sell it) which will bend the price to that new value.

Now there are no absolute certainties, and the knowledge that come close to absolute certainty and aren't publicly known, are usually pretty illegal to share.

What's left it mostly speculation. Which is fine, that is how this all works.

janbernhart··on Ask HN: Overcoming Burnout / Imposter Syndrome
This doesn't read like Imposter Syndrome, but rather not being aligned with culture/way of working of your current company/team. I've been in that situation and tried working harder. It just made the problem bigger.

If you have a good leader that you trust in your company, have this conversation with him/her. Approach this in a way of how you can be of more value, rather than criticizing the team.

janbernhart··on Use -C++ to filter out C++ from Google search results if only C wanted
It helps if you select 'verbatim' instead of 'all results' (in google, click on 'tools'). This reduces how much interpretation google gives to your search keywords.
janbernhart··on Ask HN: Can you share some non biz, non tech podcasts that you love?
Philosophize This - A pretty sweet overview of development in philosophy over the years (mostly focussing on last 150-100 years though).
janbernhart··on Ask HN: Is it legal for US companies to hire remote non-US contractors?
"we can't" in a lot of times actually means "we don't want to"
