jasonmp85··on Could a modern chess engine on a Pentium have defeated Kasparov in 1996?
That sentence kind of makes the rest of it moot, though? Everyone knows HEVC and AV1 on bare (unaccelerated hardware) is rough even on modern machines.
jasonmp85··on F.02 Decommission
What's this company? Do they make anything of use? Or just take refined goods and irreversibly destroy them?
jasonmp85··on Why Bullshit Jobs Are (Finally) Dying [video]
The point Graeber makes is that bullshit jobs are a thin excuse to continue to give people money where otherwise there may not actually be productive labor to be done. Nothing works if people don't have money, things get pretty fucked up if those at the top have it all, so we sort of slid into this situation of people having pointless jobs just to receive some distribution. This keeps things roughly the same and no one really questions what's going on a lot.

This guy seems to hear "bullshit jobs" and simply think "people who I don't think are useful". Graeber's is a critique of the economic order, this guy seems to be beholden to it.

jasonmp85··on Debugging my new network, when 10 Gigabit Ethernet Runs at 300 Megabits
Depending upon the density of your environment, absolutely not. Every hardwired device frees up utilization of the wireless space.

Anthropic knows they could just pay off the aggrieved party.

The operators of Anna's know they will go to prison.

"Centrist" in America is just "far-right but doesn't talk about it very loudly"
jasonmp85··on For Linux kernel vulnerabilities, there is no heads-up to distributions
Does it? Now that I see their name again in this context they're blacklisted for life.
jasonmp85··on The Palantir's Stasi Protocols
I _think_ I align with your beliefs, but the style of writing, color scheme, etc., all scream 2010s Anonymous, and it's very hard to get past that aesthetic to determine if there is any there there.

Are you a plural person? Or is this a team? What's with the plural pronouns? Again, I do wish there were less style here.

jasonmp85··on Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom
This is written with what feels like the peak understanding of my kid's school's IT department: "well, they're just so smart, we can't find any way of stopping them!"

An allowlist might be a good place to start.

jasonmp85··on Twitter now requires an account to view tweets
I am, thanks. But also Discourse is so terrible that it should be excluded too.
jasonmp85··on A child’s privacy is worth more than likes (2022)
I could spend time looking for a Facebook ad showing this behavior but instead I’m going to scream at you to stop being so dense and do it yourself.
jasonmp85··on A child’s privacy is worth more than likes (2022)
Hey privacy is really important oh by the way subscribe to us, k?
jasonmp85··on Twitter now requires an account to view tweets
To not know of any is sort of weird. To believe a for-profit enterprise should replace the last is unspeakably dumb.
jasonmp85··on Tesla removes parking sensors, the results are predictably terrible
Who is the CEO, again? What fall did they take? Must’ve been big to avoid naming them.

Everything after that is fair game.

jasonmp85··on ‘Breakthrough’ obesity drugs that have stunned researchers
Amphetamines are great, I fail to see your point.
jasonmp85··on Python 2 removed from Debian
What shelf? A garage? Detached? A shed? How humid? You may want to resurface and oil that saw after a decade. The wood handle may have rotted, or the plastic one may be gummy. Taking care of tools is how they last.
jasonmp85··on Python 2 removed from Debian
The point is just you don’t understand how your tools work.
jasonmp85··on If you die in the game, you die in real life
Yes. I cringed so hard I’m wearing my endothelial layer as skin.
jasonmp85··on If you die in the game, you die in real life
Thank god the sort of people who mindlessly seek “cool” stuff to work on in the absence of any kind of ethics seldom have the intelligence, skill, or charm to realize any of their dreams.

Run-on sentences, use of "woke"… I think this entire person can be ignored.
